  1. I am very sad that you are talking about someones loved pet this way! It doesn't matter if it is regarded as a pest by many. As long as it is cared for responsibly.
  2. oh no! not you too!! You were supposed to learn from my example! Not wanna try it yourself!!! I can sympathise tho. So sorry for your losses. It really suks! AMEN!!
  3. Hard to sum up what the situations is like right now in simple terms. Basically there is a chain of events that need to happen to lead us up to the point of being able to get to work on the fish room. At the moment we are waiting for our builder friend to be able to come do a couple of jobs for us so we can move on the the next step. And of course there is always $$$$ to take into account  I would love to take up almost everyones offers of fish for restocking(especially since i can only do so much with a bunch of swordtails) and definitely be happy to take anything that anyone has been having trouble finding a home for or doesn't want with the idea that we are thinking of having an open arms approach to unwanted fish. I would like to take the opposite approach from now on, of instead of being another person who tries to find a home for a fish that i can't accomodate anymore, i would like to accept fish that other people don't want.
  4. I had a dream about fish last night *wail* *sob* Thank you everyone for you condolences and support. I think the *outside world* must surely believe i am a nutter for being so upset over the fish. At least you all understand I guess it also helped doing the count of bodies and burying them for a bit of closure. I think we will work on getting our fish room up and running and then start look at stocking it
  5. 63 fish have been confirmed dead. 12 angels 9 Bristlenose 14 albino kribs amongst all the other oddballs. All buried and plenty of tears shed in their memory.... Unbelievably tho.. found 1 skunk loach, the breeding pair of whiptails, and 2 female adult fighters as well as practically ALL the swordtails/platties
  6. Casper... Juju is fine. I am determined to get stocked up in the near future. Currently doing the count. On a plus though our breeding pair of Whips survived as did basically all the platties but all our veil cross angels perished. Mr L
  7. I've just been into the morgue. It is pretty bad. Tank temp is currently 15. We still have a few fighters, platties, danios, widows and 2 cory's. Shaz just came home from work (shift being 5"25pm - 1am) and she is a mess.
  8. Any one who has been to our place recently would of seen our 12+ tanks in operation. Now think of all those fish in 3 tanks. To put it bluntly I'm really pissed off!!!! I have organised cable from a power line maintainence company but alas too late. I don't even want to go into the garage to see the survivors Mr L
  9. They will have all basically been frozen to death. Tanks temp got down to at least 10*C would have been lower than that earlier in the day. All heater, filters, and lights were unplugged when the plug got knocked and i guess it had been knocked early last night when any of us were last near the plug. A painful test to see which fish can tolerate the cold?
  10. You have no idea. I was having a bad day anyway. This was the icing on the cake really. The fish i am really greiving for at the moment are the angels Harry, and Mr Knifey. Mr knifey was my birthday present a couple of years ago from hubby and was a true favourite. I loved watching him evovle from the shy timid fish that was a treat to see out to him being the bossy bold and entertaining bully he became. R.I.P And the angels were Just starting to pair up and i had 2 pairs spawn just recently. I didn't manage to get any fry from them but was looking forward to setting them up in the fish room and letting them go. They were spawned from Black zebra lace veiltail males and gold or wildtype females and were very pretty fish. I was really looking forawrd to seeing what the next generation turned out like. Harry was just Harry and was wonderful in her own special way *double * Thanks for the offers folks. I will get back to you when i have decided where to head from here. :-?
  11. tank temps are around 10 - 13*C. I hate to think how cold they may have been at around 6am this morning! It is an incredibly eerie sight to see at least a hundred or so fish bodies lying on the bottoms of 3 tanks. Like they ALL just lay down and went to sleep. I feel awful...
  12. looks like the plug the tanks were all hooked up to got knocked. all tanks are in the garage (no insulation yet) and it was a frost last night. I have plugged everything back in to let the tanks slowly warm up again and see if anyone defrosts over the next while. There is a tiny bit of life in the form of a pearl danio doing lazy upside down circuits, a couple of black widow tetras, some platies and possibly 2 young bettas. All my stunning veiltail angels (10+), mature male and female BN, breeding pair of whiptails, the discus, Mr Knifey (my BGK), Harry the palembang puffer, 5 of my silver dollar babies, all my kribs and convicts (pink and normal), 2 skunk loaches, an albino rainbow shark... just to name some of the critters i have lost so far. (just seems to be all my favourites dead so far )
  13. title says it all Just gotta get the courage to see the full extent of the damage. first glance looked pretty bad tho...................
  14. Wow! that is a shame Wok. I thought there would be more. I hope you will do your best when you get back, to make everyone else feel terrible that they didn't make an effort to come along (with an exception being allowed to those with genuine reasons for not being able to attend )
  15. I am driving up to conference and back again. I could take a tank and basic equipment with me in the car or a chillybin and fish sit/courier for you. It would be the least i could do.
  16. Try at Australbricks They have a Display Center on Sawyers Arms road which perhapes could have some ex-display stock. look they up and ring first just in case it saves you a trip
  17. ahh! i had a suspicion it was something like that. That sucks
  18. thank you for the mag Caryl and everyone who contributed. What made you decide to "bag the mag" and keep it flat this time instead of folding as has been done in the past if you don't mind me asking? From a mail sorters perspective it is a LOT easier to handle when flat like this time.
  19. I think they are a lurker on here or a friend of theirs is.
  20. at the time of this post 135 tanks are on our property. Most of which will be used in our fish room once setup. There was closer to 200 tanks but another fish geek came to get some for their own fishroom.
  21. time and time again you totally stun me with the bargains you find on TM. I am utterly green with envy. :bounce: Good spotting. Hope you can work your magic with it and can't wait to see what you can do with it.
  22. if the silver dollars were anything to go by, they can start to be uncovered and have light when they start free swimming and have absorbed their egg sac. Green water will be definetly your best first food for them imo variety is best and a bit of trial and error. have a bit of micro worms, infusoria/green water and maybe a bottle of "liquifry" available. see what the fry respond best to. if they dont like it you can try something else.
