  1. after tHEcONCH posted his pic i thought if that really is him then this must be me But seriously..... let's get back on track. Got a couple of photos of you here wilson. Would you like me to put one up for you?
  2. hi there Have you ever tried feeding dahpnia to your mandarins? I have heard a few thoughts and opinions now but would be interested to hear your thoughts too.
  3. dunno about the snails but kuhlis will eat your guppy fry. Used to have kuhlis in my swordtail breeding tank until i saw my babies getting sucked up like noodles. No wonder the kuhlis were so fat and happy
  4. not gourami, he has probs with his cichlids. And i think they were NZ bred ones he got too which were supposed to be hardier but still having trouble. Hope i got that right SBD?
  5. Loopy

    hi from spoon

Welcome Spoon! Great to see you here! and great to meet you! I was wondering who you were
  6. how was you throat the next morning! Hope you didn't over do it. Was a interesting way to tie up the night!!!
  7. an oscar we had ages ago decided to eat our rather large rainbow shark as a way to tell us we were late for feeding time. Technically the shark "fitted" in his mouth but he wasn't comfortable and the shark was about as long as he was
  8. if they are hiding then probably the best thing to get would be more silver dollars. even getting 2 more and i think you will see a huge change in their personality. They are a true schooling fish and benefit from being in a large group. I have 12 silver dollars in a 660L tank with convicts, and a pair of severum.
  9. ok new Question.... What are your thoughts on whether daphnia would be a good substitute pod food for mandarins? Is anyone willing to experiment with how long a daphnia will survive in marine water?
  10. Silver dollars are the big dopey, wusses of the fish world. Yeah the usual rule applies - If it fits in their mouth they will eat it. But they are other wise fine with most fish.
  11. You don't have to pay again. When you buy your stamp you are paying for your item to be delivered to the address you supply. If it went for a wander and didn't get to it's destination it is not your fault. Who knows what happened to that particular mag  It is a well known fact that some mail sorters can't read  I would just chuck it back in the post and see what happens  Did it have a red finger stamp on it saying "return to sender"
  12. tank is 300L+. I can't remember the dimensions. Something like 400mm x 900 x 1200mm. I am hoping it will do her for a while. I put the thermometer on the tank to give an indication of size and she didn't like it there. Stared at it until i took it off again.
  13. anyone got any topic suggestions? Got any questions you want answers to? got anything you want to get rid off?
  14. Yay! Bordesley street!!!! I got my first fish tank in a flat down Bordesley. Had to move out so we could let M.T.S move in Thanks for posting that Casper. (Juju went into her tank today. Tomatoes are yummy and airstones are fun to play with. Tank makes her look little!!)
  15. We could try and work out what is causing it in the first place instead of trying to find a way to get rid of it once it is already there. What colour is you algae? brownish? blueish? or greenish? Light green or dark green? Is it long and furry or is it slimey looking? Is your tank near a window? Does it get any direct sunlight during the day? Do you have plants in your tank? Are they growing well? Are there lots of plants or just a few? Planting your tank with a couple of hungry plants could be enough to compete with the algae for food and reduce it's presence in your tank
  16. Thanks for all the thoughts folks. you can rest assured that breeding was never my intention with these guys. I got them off trademe. There was no picture and the seller didn't know what they were so it was like a lucky dip and i like a good mystery. I just wasn't expecting to find that big fella to be quite as mysterious as he has proven to be! I have never had african cichlids before so these are my entry level get-to-know-them fish. MY! what big teeth he has!!!
  17. That sounds like a challenge Hmmmm move this tank to there....... Pleanty of space for an ASW. An old school aquaintance used to do glider towing as part of clocking hours for CPL Mr L
  18. Hubby can't fit one of those in his model room
  19. you mean a full size glider?? umm....no. I would have to draw the line there. The latest plane hubby got has a roughly 6ft wingspan. And now he has to try and work out where to store it. He keeps getting bigger and bigger toys. I couldn't handle full size. I think that is what he loves about them. Flying models seems to come as naturally to him as blinking. I almost always win the Fish versus planes arguments!! (and there are plenty of them lol!!!)
  20. thanks for that. Would be interested to hear anyone elses thoughts? I think he is pretty in a Quasimodo kind of way. I wonder if he knows he is "odd"?
  21. Silly fish went all shy on me and kept hiding. best i could get this round.
  22. i'll see w i can do... got a busy day ahead but they have relaxed a lot now and have coloured up nicely in their tank. they might co-operate with me a bit more now
  23. I just got these 3 The guy who sold them had no idea what they are except "zebra cichlid". Shall i just accept them as that or can someone elaborate a bit? What about sexing them? I would hate to think of walking up to the tank for weeks and saying "who's a pretty boy there?" every morning and finding out it is a female!
  24. Slope combat is fun. Haven't done slope for a few years now. It's weird the amount of ppl into fish and planes. One thing to remember with park fly planes. You are responsible for any harm or damage you may cause. There is about 7 clubs here in Chch so finding one isn't a problem
  25. It is expensive. I'm getting a Matrix F3A built and will cost about $3K, also have a 35% Giles 202 (80cc) on the table and will be cheap at about 3.5K. Worst case they won't last 2 mins best case quite a few years. Mr L www.modelaeroclub.com
