  1. yeah, i have been wasting my time too as for your query, fish enjoy wald water rushes, they experience this in nature, rivers replenish rivers and lakes. rain and mountains replenish lakes and rivers all cold water, unwarmed and very cold, warms up through mixng and they enjoy this. In fact there is substantial proof that this actually is better for the fish, stimulates the immune system and growth. but i have been mixing ager and water in a bucket then putting into sump/tank.... man! have i been wating time! good though to know, now i can cut it by half again.
  2. so suffice to say the way i used to do it was the waste of time if wanting to use water ager, which i already bought, it also breaks down amonia to safe compounds your bio filtration can break down so its ok its not such a waste cos im going away for a month with no water changes. i put the water ager into the tank as i fill up with a hose and straight in that way? if some people are filling up with out water ager at all, then i should definatley be ok with water ager from a hose. ? those people that are putting straight tap hose water - are your water from the mains not tank from your roof and rain water?
  3. my method: usually i would rid of water. then i would put water from the tap in a bucket, with water ager, then after that put the new water into the tank or sump to re fill the tank. i went to HFF they said in all their tanks, they clean the tank and drain water, put tap water straight but before new water goes in, they put in sea chem prime, whcih is a very concentrated water ager, they put the precribed dose into the tank then from a hose pump the water into the tanK. he said he has had no trouble with this. i was just afraid that the chlorine in that brief moment will kill bacteria or fish and stuff. but he said, the water ager acts instantly in contact with water and what its trying to neutralise. he said that when you put the ager in the tank, and hose in, it will mix the water and instantly act, and no harm done he says all his tank, including the massive one and the red aro tank is done like this. i feel if they do it, i can, same water in albany to my house! any feedback?
  4. if its eating fine, and still eating fine, then it will poo in time. maybe last owner didnt stuff it as much. but, if it doesnt poo at all soonish. perhaps there is a bowel problem. although thats rare - it might happen. what ar eyou feeding it? feed it wax moth. maybe softer food may help it pass poo

    I'm back

after being in the uk, the fish here would be rather tame. the range in the Uk is very good i understand you can get piranhas there? and gars perhaps
  6. they are rather easy to take care of i found but not my kind of fish,it just isnt aggressive enough nor does it eat other animals:D
  7. i have a semi scientific explanation the debris comes from the tubes of your inlet and outlet pipes. these are strands of algae and organisms that are used to the certain flow of your filter. when you reverse that the sructure of the organism isnt deisgned to withstand the opposite flow because its spent its whole life trying to withstand the normal day to day flow, they dislodge and whallaaa you have debris but yeah harmless:D im am such a geek im sorry....
  8. people want , myself also sometimesknow its not a good idea, b ut want someone to say giv eit a go for cofort:D but at the same time when you become an experienced fish keeper, wether it be pretty colous or you are a MFK or reef you end up knowing the deal on things
  9. well i must also agree either try it, or get over it but yes fair enough
  10. on that note google always says put certain substrate for beardeds which is cow manure also dont feed them big cickets ider than their eyes do you think in the wild they will say, that jumping cricket, although delicious is a little too big for me, i need something smaller. no google has brilliant info, definatley but experience is better. my 4 cents
  11. they won come in i aleadyemailed the guy cos they are called sting rays i dont even know if they sting
  12. knife fish will grow hugebut takes ages i guess i have seen it with communities so i shouldnt think theres a problem, but they do eat other fish, as you can see their mouth is like a small dog, so big fish cant be eaten. they are nocturnal so when others are sleeping thats when they can cause problems. also their tail has electrick shocks if they are anoyed i am told anyways and as google says
  13. come on guys people ask cos they dont know asking for experience,no need to give this person flack! to nswer your question which is apparent, no, you can 'fit' one in but it wont live for long. i had a 22 inch silver in a 5.5 foot, it was too small for it, when they are confined and uncomfortable, they will jump often and probably kill themselves doing so. or break your tankwhich also kills them. you need a minimu 6 foot for this fish , at 15 cm maybe you can, ut not for long, they grow fast o more than a foot probably with in or less than a year. the trick with this fish is not the height of tank, its depth, front to back. and length leave space and dont fill water to the top so they can jump and thrash when hunting
  14. damn!! thatq would eat babies, human babies
  15. when saw ropefish i was actually going to book a ticket to chch, buy all of them and keep it:D but i found out that they have not come into nz, in fact i dont think ever legally but i wAS EXCITED though. shame its not really a rope fish but yeah, i think he is abit mad at me cos i told him to change it come on rope fish its like selling a silver aro as a gold aro and saying its ok... funny though
  16. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 391825.htm i knwo we are not allowed links but is this a rope fish or ornate bichir?
  17. rope fish in nz? some for sale i saw. is this for real? i do not believe they were in nz. i do not bvelieve they were allowed to be imported in nz. any feedback/ i saw some for sale, would buy them instantly, but need to know if it is inded ropefish
  18. they all hav eit and if you buy a new 405 cmpared to a old one, i am sure the new one will have fancier features algae wont really be helped by filter i do not think, once you have a massive algae problem, filter wont help much in my experience.
  19. mixing with jardinii, i already have pleco and senegalus i want 1 or two more something that wont kill or be killed in this tank wont uproot plants or eat them anything? was thinkin oscars, leperanis, cachleus but.... oscars can be destructive and move things any feedback? even if the jar attacks it a lil it sok it will stop eventually i think barbs?
  20. plenty of arguament on newts on google but, i found in my personal experience, yes they grow very very slow. feeding whiteworms speeds up growth, high in fat and protein, you really see their belly fatten up., when about 4 cms long you cna feed waxmoth, they grow quick then, but they are very and extremely slow growing. japanese and chinese is a factor, oine of the grow bigger and faster, the other smaller and slowly. some say putting all water and just some plants sticking out speeds up growth, putting them onland seems to make them lazy in my experience
  21. my ctenopoma just killed himself by swimming into a crevace that ended up crushing him what a silly poo! sad i think thast the first ever fish i have had that died by crushing
  22. 8mm and 10mm i am told how long and wide is not the problem is how high is this true?
  23. anything that cant be eaten you really can put anything with bichirs. they seem to not get attacked and having had a few before and one currently, they dont attack anything, even tried it out putting minnows with them, they didnt even try to eat. in the wild supposedly theya re predators, but some would argue they are scavengers and opportunistic hunters, their bodies are not actually fast enough and nimble enough to chase fish and run them down. arowana, oscars, piranha has great maneuverability n the water and if you seen an arowana hunt, they ANTICIPATE where the fish is gonna be and they bite there. bichirs do nto do this, if you starve them, they might, or jsut by chance they might go for a small fish if it swims past its face, but timid things they are. put whate ver you want thats not tiny
  24. you should make armour for them so it looks like those things from lord of the rings
  25. My profile says it all i have been on the hunt fr tortoises once in a while you will find one but all 2000 above nothing less a person put one up on here 1500 and i was sold in 8 minutes she then retracted the sale claiming she wants to keep it now no doubt, i believein my opinion she learnt the true value of her animla and its rarity so good luck but, as a tip go to trade me daily search tortoise if it comes up dont hesitate unles the price is not right for you
