senegalus polypterus they still have a air breathing organ though they are not lungs bichir then
-
fair enough.
-
that would be good if someone was to do that, have a very no frills front but selling fish cheaper than anyone that is a goer
-
fair enough, from the horses mouth. well im sure you dont have a horse mouth its a figure of speech but thanks i didnt know i know maf is difficult but yeah, its abit funny how strict they are to fish that isnt really gong to survive in the wild here
-
whats afaik? yeah, breeding them would be cool jsut need some land and warmer water. but a solar heater im sure can work and supplmented by a electric heater during cloudy days. or in a hot house

http://www.unoaquatic.com/message/index.cgi?read=3737 chgeck this out, purple red! nice! yeah, i love arowanas, partly cos im asian and i grew up with these i love them! my uncle had about 4 of them it snot impossible to breed them, but needs to be outdoor, and for nz, HEATED outdoor, expensive. but nt impossible. one thing though, there is a chance that these fish are sterilised prior entry to nz. if so then game over

im not ignoring it i guess im not aware of the costs but you would think that high volume works better they would sell far more arowanas selling it for cheaper than expensive. selling two at a cheaper price mightbe better than selling one at a higher price. i do know the cost of business, i guess im just bitter cos i want them cheaper:P but how can a silver arowana, a hardy fish selling for a $1 nz price! $1!! be 120-130? ..... mmmmm thats all im askin i mean you import 100 of that fish lets say, costs you 100nz dollars, probably less cos they wouldgive a disount. but fair enough i dont have enough experience in importing animals. it just annoys me!!!! i just called quarantine places and they dont let you bring in your fish, they do it themselves to control price... smart but annoying one of these days someones gonna come and lower all the prices. similar to beardeds and reptiles beardeds were selling for 1500 each, now you can get some for 400

I get annoyed i go to pet shops and they say, oh yeah its expensive this fish etc. you know that i looked into this. called maf maf only charges $105 for a year to import fish. arowanas selling right now are the lowest grade, it osts 1$150 sing dollars. to ship 12, doesnt cost more than 600 to ship to nz. thats $50 dollars each! that makes the cost of the fish 200 plus gst 225. then i get this crap about cites costing 500, it doesnt, wqhen you buy the fish from panda aquatics - they do it for you included in the price! then they charge 1900 per fish in the stores? thats nuts wonder if there is a way of getting this fish cheaper?
-
yeah it reminded me more of a polypterus but smaller but i thought it looks really cool would like to keep them
-
funny that i just wrote to the authority incharge of these fish and asked them if we could breed them in captivity, because there is no way of enlarging the habitat of these fish and its only amatter of time before they die out if they do it, tht would be neat, and breed them in captivity

my mate is a very very frequent diver he said he can get me what ever ri want providing that its not in a marine reserve so its legal i am looking at Morays, scorpion fish (Scorpaena papillosus) or octopus
-
ok something novel is what i like how bout dog fish.. they dont grow much bigger than a meter probably less they hvae sharp teeth and look cool anything like that, cna you get species of sharks that are small?
-
Hi guys reef tanks or salt water, no need for corals, iw at to raise or catch a octopus and put it in a tank what would this entail? not the huge ones but you know the one syou find in rock pools etc
-
theres a point there but im not patriotic towards that because no matter what, like you said, there is always going to be people going to pet shops and buying from there. but personally, i have had enough experience to buy the cheaper stuff. and i jave a policy of over filtration, so if one goes wrong, theres a back up:D
-
fair enough i guess when you have lets say tings like red aro, 2k to 4k each then you dont want to take that risk but if you have lets say in a 1000 ltre tank, 4 of the cheaper ones, the chances of 4 failing all together is unlikely i guess but i see what you mean
-
thats a fair enough statement. and i dont actually mind tubes everywhere:D lol but fair enough i see what you mean. the quality is different. but just looking at my fluval compared to my cheaper asian one. The asian one seems as sturdy and robust. but doesnt look as nice. my jebo 1200 i have had for 4 years, no trouble at all. but i guess its a matter of peace of mind and what you prioritise, so one cannot say to another and argue this point,. but thanks for participating i was just curious. the fx5 looks nasty though! it looks like a cryo stasis chamber its awesome! (too much sci fi)

i get 12 months , same as a fluval when i got it. he has a warehouse and office in takapuna. must admit, it doesnt look as sharp as the expensive ones but its the same stuff. i guess though his brand is easier to disappear if he decides to go , but in the few months hes been importing, hes sold a few hundred already. he sells lights too, reptile bulb 20-25% cheaper. pumps , etc. i figure instead of getting an f5, you can get or 4 of these, ends up cheaper and more filtration and more media. besides, when my fluval impeller broke they charged me 15 or something dollars. its silly. fluval parts are so expensive anyways. the chances of these simple machines breaking with in 12 months is unlikely, just like brand new cars. my faunty bio filter i bought has massive suction! its fantastic. i would recommend it to anyone.

Elephantnose Fish (Gnathonemus petersii) in stores?
henward replied to VinsonMassif's topic in Rare and unusual fish
albany has two -
jsut wondering why would people buy the expensive filter brands. fluval 303 $250 brand new Flucal fx5 $450 brand new tere are parallel imports aqua 1 and bio and jebo on trademe, brand new for literally less than half price. i bought a 1200/lph canister, exacdtly the same as a luval 404 even more for $110 the fittings are generic, nothing fancy, baskets are same. the only thing is that the plastic isnt as shiny and nice. but the motor is the same. why and how can they justify seling expensive ones . filtration and bio logical filtration and waste filtration and the movement of water does not care wether or not your fiter is shiny.... this is something thats been getting to me !

how bout this. not a matter of killing each other, matter of size. my set up 5 foot 10 inches, by 57cm by 57cm filtration: overflow with 2kilos of ceramic rings/bio balls on the sump two jebo internals in the sump 400lph it says return pump of 1000lph two canisters 1200lph with another 2kgs of ceramic noodles currently i have a 13 cm lung fish jardinii under 1 foot 6cm leopard syno 2 cm bristlenose 6cm albino pleco and a 15cm normal black pleco. what capacity can i add to this , cani add eels? 3 more? hbow many more or shall i not?
-
what types of eels are they?
-
cool thanks those are the only three you cna get in nz right? o other nastier funny ones?
-
cos i like eels and unusual fish and snakes so figure eels are the next best thing unfortunate about nz eels, id like to mix them but i gues not. peacock eel? also known as spiny eel? cool for 3 eels, what size tank? i mean lets say all im puttin in there are the eels. 2 foot? 3 foot?
