  1. i think would be cool to have a piranha tank well with no piranhas but silver dollars, pacu, spotted metynis and red hook metynis and thats it heaps of them schooling and competing fr food
  2. well im getting an 8 footer next year so ill have more options then:D
  3. fair enough well i am confident that the silver dollars will eat all my plants thats ok ill just hven o plants but so far, they havent nibbled or anything though, in saying that, they are settling in and still eating only a little bit
  4. i prefer to show you guys videos, woud be so much easier! and nicer cos its dark in the garage, and te photos never turn out nicely. videos would be far superior how do i put videos up?
  5. not too concerned with plants actually but just a trial if it gets eaten, its ok
  6. well... we all know i like trying random things i was told buy this group in uk that silver dollars can be put into a planted tank, so long as they are well fed. everyone says and my own judgement says no. but i decided to have fish wtih jardinii that are nice, i love silvers look like piranhas! so ill sacrifice the plants but ... im trialling to see if the silvers and my spotten metynis and flagtail will eat the plants. day 2, no plants have been eated. if i keep them well fed, maybe, in theory they wotn eat it unless they are grazer fish then perhaps.... well if they do its ok but, if not, then perhaps thats an idea for someone, a planted silver dollar or metynis tank:D oh yes, a red hook metynis is available if anyone wants them at HFF 80 $
  7. something spectacular like imported highly rare discus with LOTS of plants. this will lengthen non water changing times. even 2 weeks at a time or 3. i did a trial, i have a heavily stocked fish, 22 total fish inside my 400 litre 4 foot. 3 weeks no water change, heavily planted, i mean the plants grow so well that i have to keep trimming - water was perfect. discus was growing nicely too and colouration is developing well. and i feed them discus tucker which is mainly beef with bloodworms for the others and pellets. so water changes are not always needed weekly or bi weekly, and if you develop a system - a 30% WC can take less than 10 mins. or - i reckon a rocky tank - silver dollars, oscars and pleco. nice to see 4 to 5 silver dollars school and fight for food
  8. added 2 slver dollars, full sized, 1 spotted metynis(7 cms) 1 appolo shark. the apolo shark got totally wasted, moved it away to my discuss tank to recover and have a happier life but silver dollars were attacked initiallyand pursued slightly, jus tlike the tinfoils and flagtail then the aggression became less and less, untill it doesnt bother anymore interesting.
  9. looks fine to me! put a jardinii in there:D
