  1. Thanks , I'll take note of that Yep , just been and checked and the male has started a nest ( small but started ) and the female goes head down and flairs when he's near , all sounds good so far
  2. Thanks Guys this morning both look fine , no sign of a nest yet but heis showing off to her nearly all the time and she's more than alittle interested. will follow your advice and watch closely. Thanks
  3. Hi I have been hoping to breed fighters for a while now but until recently i did not have a female so was pretty stuck, now i do and just noticed she is pretty full with eggs. Heres my problem and hope an OK solution. What i have done is floated a about 3L plastic Tank/container in my big tank, put in some floating plant and placed my male in there , no heater but its up near the light and hopefully keeping warm with the water its sat in( I'm installed at thermometer to keep and eye on temp). I have then placed the female in a jar and floated that in the 3L tank to encourage him to start nesting, if he does I'll release her to him and let nature take its course. What I'm concerned with is the female in the jar, As i have been feeding them up with bloodworm and live mozzie lava I'm worried the ammonia build up in the jar, what i thought was use a air hose to siphon out water each morning and afternoon and do water changes that way. If nothing is happening in a couple of days I'll pass and let her back into her own tank. Will she be ok like that for two days? As much as i would love to try and breed them I'm not going to kill them trying. All advice gratefully received Thanks Paul
  4. Well they are in the cichlid tank now and totally dramaless, each cichlid checked them out but no aggression or anything, Will see what they are like in the morning.
  5. Hi Dawn Yes i did get some mollies and been very happy with them , ven bought some more nice ones on our recent Auckland trip. As to salt , it was a question we were not sure of either but after talking to a lot of people and a lot of shops we decided NOT to add salt because most shops don't and a change in water chemistry we decided would not be good, idf they were not raised in salt water at all, we decided thjey don't need it and other fish in the tank don't want it , so why add it ?? just our way of thinking but they have been fine.
  6. Hi I have a pair of Featherfin/Upside down catfish , not 100% sure what they are in fact , was sold as upside down but debate states they may not be but anyway, they are growing at a fast rate and i suspect they are the reason some fish just keep disapeairing from my community tank. ? I was wondering if they will be ok to put into a Malawi cichlid tank, I'll put up a pic of them if it helps. BTW in the Malawi tank there is already a decorated Synodontis Catfish which is fine. Thanks
  7. Well done Amy now you have to look after the new babies too

  19. Hi I'm looking at setting up a new cichlid tank and have got some nice rocks and wood etc and want to build some caves etc for them before any water is added, I was wondering what type of silicone to use to fix the rocks together ? is there something special or will any waterproof silicone do ? I'm thinking also about putting some barbs in the same tank , is this ok or would they not get on ? Sorry about all the questions but a real newbie with cichlids Thanks
  20. Hi Everyone I have got a new/2nd hand 4 foot tank and was thinking of making it into my first Cichlid tank, now i really like the Electric Yellows and Blues, if i get these what else would i be able to put in with them as i know all cichlids are not compatable .? :-? Also how many in a 4 foot tank. Thanks Guys and Girls

  22. yes its great this was our first bubblenest breeding
  23. We did very little , they were in the 2nd community tank, with floating plants and the male started building a bubble nest. I knew they had no chance in there so i moved them to the free hospital tank along with lots of floating plants , turned off the filter, the tank was warm at about 26=27 degrees and withing 24 he had built another nest and 2 days later we had what seems like dozens of very little fry, At this point i ook out both parents and thats it. Feeding on green water, microworm and liquid fry food and all seems to be going well if not a little slow.
  24. This is Morse, he's the one that got me started back in November , he died after about 3 weeks , all my fault, did not know a thing kept him in a huge brady glass in the lounge with no heater just some plants, Sorry Morse... I guess 14 tanks later he's still missed
  25. Thanks Alan appreciate your words of encouragement : D
