  1. Guess so Wok , or maybe i interupted there favourite TV programme and they were sulking  but still happy in there new home now
  2. UPDATE : When i set up the tank everything was cleaned in just fresh water, tank ,gravel pots etc. I did not use water from there tank but did use about 1/3 from a cycled tank. the other 2/3 was treated with aquaplus and then left to stablise for 2-3 days the temp was as i siad within 0.2 of the Q-tank. Today: I decided to try again and started with the smaller of the two, the one that seemed to handle it a little better last time and he was fine I kept a close eyeon him for about 30 minutes and then added the second one who also is fine , they have now been in there new tank about 1 1/2 hours and settled ??? I have no idea whats changed. All water tests are the same today as the were 2 days ago ?? Still if there happy thats the main thing , i'll be keeping a close watch on them over today and the next few days
  3. No one any ideas ? Sould i try to add them again now the tank has sat for a few more days ?
  4. Hope someone can help. About 2 weeks ago i bought two young discus , brought them home and put them in a bare bottom quarentine tank and all has been fine, eating well happy and active ( for discus). Well tonight i decised it was time to move them to the new bigger nicer home, i'd set up on Saturaday , the temp was stable at 30.4 within 0.2 of there Q tank, Ph was the same in both tanks so i thought all would go smoothly BOY WAS I WRONG ! i moved them over when i got home from work and within 30 seconds the larger of the two was laying on its side like it was dieing and the other was gasping at the serface . I quickly put them back in the Q-tank and they are now picking up nicely and are almost back to nornal. I just don't know why ?? The new tank had some preused gravel that had been thoughly washed a few plants and a pot large enough for them to both in in if they wanted , nothing special. What could cause such a dramatic reaction ? what can i do now ?
  5. Hi Phillz updates ... well we only got two live fry from that breeding , I'm happy to say both are alive and doing well. As we speak the pair of them are at it again, this time doing things much more by the book, lower water levels, plastic plants for her to hide in, better poly-frame with access to the air but still protecting the nest , etc so hope for better survival rate this time.
  6. i got a sheet from Payless Plastics Lower Hutt yesterday , about 1.2m x 1.2m and 20mm think for $10, not too bad i thopught. they only had one more sheet in stock but I'm sure they could get more.
  7. Hi Blue & Kim at the top of this page about an inch or two from the top , slightly to the right of centre is a button "chatroom" just click and you will be magicly transported the the chat room   seems to take a while theses days for it to start for me anyway. good luck
  8. Hi Saffaboy how did they go over night ? any progresse with settling them down ?
  9. I'd leave them tonight , if you move them to a bucket that will only add to there stress and unless you got a 2nd heater you'd be pretty much unable to keep a stable temp for them. What temp have you got the tank ? Dicus need a much higher temp than the other fish in there ...?
  10. your reading look fine BUT if you have only had them a week the reading could be dramaticly differant to the water they were in before and that "shock" could be whats the problem . Is there any way you can get the reading from the water they were in ? from shop or previous owner ? then slowly try and replicate those readings and again slowly bring them back to your readings , the key is SLOWLY
  11. sounds like quite a few fish in with them , any added recently ? and again what size tank ?
  12. have you added anything to the tank ? plants , cleaned the filter or anything that could have caused the tanl parameters to change at all , even if they still seem ok ?
  13. Hi Does anyone know of any good easy to use software for keeping track of your fish.? The thing i'll looking for is to say input when a livebear drops and let the software remind you in say 28 days thats there a good chance it may be dropping again soon. When you last did water changes on tanks or added medication , that sort of thing also for recording dates numbers for fry drops etc ? hopefully shareware or freeware but will look at commercial stuff if its worth it too Thanks
  14. Awesome story and fantastic pic's , i can't wait for the next trrilling instalment !! Well done Phillz they are great looking fish !!

  17. Hi Penejane I'd me more than iterested in good sized Java fern and sword plants as i think a lot of people would be maybe that would be a good start. Good luck , a little pocket money from this hobby would help cover some of the expences , ie Power bills ...
  18. how many was you looking for ?
  19. Hi My big female swordtail dropped her fry last night , i'd put her in a large breeding net and put in a lot of java moss and floating plants so the fry could hide , i'm not sure how many she did eat but this morning when i check there was heaps !!, i've tried taking photo's but can't get a really clear one of all the breeding net but i can count just over 130 in one of the pictures and that shot does not even show the whole net. She is a large female and her last drop was about 60+ makes my eyes go all crossed trying to count them
