  1. Hi try these: http://www.cichlid-forum.com http://www.duboisi.com/ http://www.bigskycichlids.com/ http://www.cichlidae.com/default.php :bounce:
  2. Yeah, alot of colour difference. The orange one has no yellow at all and the yellows no orange. It's not a deep orange as my Rubescens, but more pale. As for the albino's, do they not have to have pink eyes to be classified as a albino?. The royal blue albinos eyes where black not like my albino peacocks which I have had now for a number of years. Which I do like. Have breed these little fellows a few times now and have breed true. The fry that I obtained from the Royal Blues had about 7 odd albino's which all have died now. They always hang around the bottom of the tank and never grew as large as the rest. They all seemed (albino's) to have trouble swimming.
  3. These guys can get pretty agressive. Had five living together for a number of years (two males and three females) but never breed. Over a couple of month lost one and had to seperate all but two which are living together with a coloney of E.Yellows. They breed about every couple of month spitting out 3-4 fry. Go figure ah :-? Alot of people recommend 12 plus in a group but read on the net somewhere that a breeder only breeds from groups of two or three for all his tropheus. My Ikolas are in a pack of five doing well. The Tropheus Brichardi where in a group of four, breed two times with 12 fry, but now all separated. Duboisi yellow bands in group of 12 and whites in two. The bulu points, Ive given up. They must be the most aggressive B*#$ ive ever had. The best thing ive found is a large tank, lots of rocks and very dense planting (plastic). Give the females a chance to hide.
  4. Thats about the time and place. The males do look pretty awesome but still it pisses me off. The best Aul. stock I have and breed are originaly from OOA tanks and these guys breed true ALL the time. Especially the Aulonocara stuartgranti Hansbaenschi (red shoulder). Not like the royal blues that are around that spit out albino's. Still have these guys which I am selling.
  5. Hi Seems we have purchased the same peacocks from the same person. I obtained 12 (no name) as fry. Now fully grown with 8 females and 4 males. At one point I had all 8 females holding The only thing that disturbs me is that 3 of the males are yellow but one of the males turned out orange. All females are identical. :-? Not to happy about that. (Colour in males that is)
  6. Really should get a couple of breeding pairs of jags so I can feed my Africans the fry.

    sick peacock

hi It might be an ulcer or a tumour. I had a XL Julidachromis with a tumour around the gill area. It lived happily for about a year till the tumour just got too big so I had no choice but to put him down. If your peacock is eating and doesnt seem stressed then its up to you if you want to keep him alive. Ta mike :-?

Awesome Afrikan. Come on, we want to see some pics
  19. Hi Not to repeat what everyone else had said but not a good idea. I think before you look at purchasing any sort of fish, cichlids or what ever, you should do a bit of reseach re water conditions, food etc. All you are doing is causing suffering for the poor fellows. Half the fun of owning fish is reading about them and researching them. Mike
  20. Hi Congrats Afrikan. Really want to set up a tank one day with Lion Heads. Heaps of large river stones with a strong current. They have to be one of the weirdest cichlids out. OOA. Good luck with the Astatotilapia Calliptera. These guys are pretty good looking let alone very rare in NZ. Mike
  21. He is nice. I guess the common name is Browns Hap. Very aggressive to their own kind but placid to others. Even as Juvs these little buggers fight. Its a real same we cant get more fish from Lake Vic. Real shame.

    Rocks

Hi My first Malawi setup was with Volcanic Rock which looked awesome in a six foot tank piled right to the top but found that alot of my fish kept scraping themselves against the rock causing themselves injuries. One jammed himself against the glass and rock and lost an eye Dolomite rock would be good but dont bother with dolomite gravel as it washes the colour out of the fish making them look pale. Iam now starting to use alot of coral rock and lime stone (the flat stuff and rock form). You lucky people in ChCh have millions of the stuff down there.
  23. $30 for full grown EY not a bad price. I guess I would pay that as well. Just comes down to the individual. $99 for EY. DREAMERS
  24. Hi You cant go wrong with anything less then a 3 footer. Gives him some room to move and incase you intend to add any other fish in the future.
