    Hybrid again

Headed down to CHCH the other week and visited a couple of LFS. One was selling a very strange looking Nimbochromis venustus. Actually more like a Nimbochromis venustus cross Nimbochromis livingstonii Oh so sad
  3. hi What type are the transcriptus? Kapampa, Katoto, Pemba. Does anyone have any photos of their transcriptus? mike
  4. Just hang in their Daniel. They will breed. The group I got off you are now very active and I witnessed my first female spawning. The tank is normally pieceful, which includes a fusco, but that night all fish where pushed to one side of the tank. Today I have a female holding and the tank is calm as usual. Normally all they get is flake food. I would recommend frozen shrimp for a alternative if you want to feed something different.
  5. Not a problem. Just stripped my 4th Borleyi female today. Up to about 100 odd fry now. Slowly getting to my HUGH male only display tank
  6. Right here we go again! What is the dif? Frenchy. You have a pic not so long ago of a Ahli and claimed that none of these have been in NZ as they are very rare. ( Cant seem to find that link) Our local importer has both Ahlis and Fryeri on its list with Fryeri been double the price. Tropheus
  7. Be careful of breeding nets as larger fish in the tank will try and get to the young and bite the net killing the fry. Happen to me. NOT HAPPY. Just a stupid mistake
  8. You could always put her into a holding tank and let her spit them in her own time. just put a few rocks inside so the fry can hide incase mum gets abit hungry. Farmchick, if you want leasons on stripping fish you can pop over and practise on some of my fish. Have so many females holding that they just spit in their own tanks. Thinking about it I had Cameron having a go the over week. Iam a Westie to so guess you not to far away
  9. Hi Try frozen cocktail shrimps from Del King. $5.00 a bag. Works great for me and the fish love it. And its cheap.
  10. OH  Sorry old habits Lets try again It looks like a cross of some sort (hybrid) between Kadango and Sciaenochromis fryeri
  11. hi To me it looks to elongated and the nose seems to long like a Ahli. :-?
  12. Dont think privately bred as they to big unless they are left overs? Had another look at those fish frenchy and yeah not a Ahli are they. To high bodied but very impressive colour
  13. Yeah. The slender ones with yellow where yellowish sheen in the body (just) and lower fins and tail. Not the dorsal. The black  i mean plain? silver/grey with black spots. Did not realy see any diff in body hight but will go back 2mrw to check out :-?
  14. Went to the LFS concerned and tried to help but just could not tell the difference. So let me get this straight. The O.lith is the slender one with a bit of yellow in it or would that just be the tank light and the Cop.Azures is just black and high bodied?
  15. OOOOH THE GREAT WISDOM OF OUR LFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!           Now thats a reason for me to import my own fish.
  16. Nice colours coming thru! Its a shame hes gone
  17. Good to hear guys and gals. I dont have the Julidochromis transcriptus but i do have the Juli.Maleri and these guys are awesome. Very similar to the Transcriptus. Once they breed they just dont STOP. Front food Afrikan, you got your camera yet? wouldnt mind some photos of your Aul yellows and the rest mike
  18. Well well well. OOA you can be as MODEST as you wish. OOA have been keeping and breeding cichlids for a long time and has imported some of the best specimens ive seen for a long time. Yes, the importers bring in Borleyi's, Ahli's, etc but they just look CRAP compared to OOA stock. I have purchased a few fish of OOA including Cyprichromis, which he has bred, and the good old borleyi which if anyone is interested they can pop around and have a look at some of the offspring. The AWESOME offspring. Its a real shame that OOA is closing down the fishroom as this knowledge will be surely missed. Now i will have to hound Frenchy  Ohh yeah, i cant post pics as well. Which might be a good thing as my (OOA) Borleyi looks like that but better.
  19. Think you hit the nail on the head Afrikan. I can look at my Borleyi's a million times and never see a likeness to a peacock.
  20. HHHHMMMMM HYBRIDS Still dont recon that is a Male Borleyi but a peacock.

    i saw a fish

they saw you coming, i got my 6 for $20 each. I guess its who you sleep with :bounce:
  22. You said it .A Instead of asking questions and waiting for answers that are incorrect or misleading. Why dont you just go to a good web site and read into what ever you want. There are heaps of good sites. try this one : http://www.cichlid-forum.com/index.php The amount of crap C.Borleyi sold on trademe just makes me mad  I wouldnt even trust the local importers. Bought some peacocks "ruben reds" the other month, 2 males and four females, and just noticed that one of the supposed females is a male of some sort. Awesome markings but will have to wait a few months before i can see what it turns into.
  23. Hi You will need more then one female. Try at least 5-6 as these guys are very agressive. I started with 5 females and three males. Two of the males had to be placed elsewhere due to fighting and now only have 1 female as the males just keeps killing them. But the good news is i have about 50-60 fry
