  1. Hi By Tropheus Brichardi female lives with a group of Borleyi and a fasco. from time to time she holds which had me guessing till I watched her one day spawn with herself. Round and round she went picking up her own eggs before the other fish got hold of them. She held for 3-4 days then she must have spat. Mike
  2. Hi No spots on my Fryeri. Only on my O.Lith Mike
  3. Not to sure yet, sorry. The more females the better. You know the old story. Not sure what to do :-?
  4. Hard to say. The first lot came with 4 females. Two of the females grew alot larger then the other two. They where more rounded and where the first to spawn. Then the two littles ones ended up spawning months later but they still seemed alot smaller but just smaller versions of there sisters. The females I have now which came with the full blaze resemble the smaller versions in statue only
  5. Got my first lot about 6mths ago thru LFS up in akld. Few months later I went down to visit OOA and was taken back by the O.lith he had in this tank with the full yellow blaze. VERY NICE. In Jan this year my brother headed down to Rotorua and advisedme that they have some nice looking cichlids. A male fish with a full yellow blaze to this nose and three spotted females to go with him. I knew straight away that had to be the O.lith and got him to buy them for me. So I guess you looking at about 8 months differance between the first and secound lot.
  6. Tropheus

    Finally!

BINGO My girls are holding now aswell. Randy bugger.
  7. When I sold off my O.Lith (resembled to Thumbi West) I held back one female thinking I would add her to the full yellow blaze tank. But have held off. Reason being if I do mix her in, am I mixing variants? Have compared her to the other females and just cant seem to see any differance. What to do?
  8. I had both. One lot came from a LFS in akld and another lot down the line. Kept in different tanks as juv's but noticed that the males werent the same. Have now sold the Thumbi look alikes and kept the Zimbawe with full yellow naps.
  9. Has anyone noticed two different variants of Otopharynx lithobates that are around. Their seems to be Zimbawe variant http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=2292 and Thumbi West variant http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=2293 Did anyone get to see the lists when they came in? And if there are two different variants I can bet that the females will get mixed up.
  10. Go 4ft at least. I can see it now. Few africans now. Then more later. Then they breed. It just never stops
  11. Hi since it was drumed into my head about Ahlis & S.fryeri I just couldnt resist advising the seller. I seem to hate the word Ahli now
  12. Looks great. Especially the Tropheus and Aulonocara
  13. Hi Daniel. My female lost her fry First time breeding so that ok. still young I guess.
  14. Well I guess you right then. I should spend hours on hours, like you, searching thru millions of internet sites getting all the updates of various species and variants before I consider naming any of my fish. OH hang on, I cant. I have a life, kids, sports, business and fifty odd tanks. Oh its all in good jest. Thats how we learn ah. Guess if I want to call my fish a certain variant from information that I obtained from a reputable source ie Cichlid-forum, I guess I will. As for selling my electric blues as Ahlis. Well I guess I should let you know that since the last forum re Ahlis, I have informed the LFS, when they rang to obtain more, that they werent Ahlis but S.Fryeri. Be my guest to contact them to confirm. But OH ME they still wanted more. And I know that a number of people on this site purchased them no matter. I guess thats the reason I took the time to raise the subject in the first place if you can remember. Oh Freshy, you better contact a few of the web sites and get them to update their sites before other people fall prey to misinformation. Well better go. Need to bag lots of Julidochromis marlieri (Burundi) for sale or is that Magara?
  15. Think the link says it all: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1526 And I think this sums you up: "Never argue with an idiot. They will only drag you down to their level & beat you with experience" So i rest my case
  16. I have eight of them. Lost a runt the other month. It just wouldnt grow and I think the male dealt to it. The female is still holding as from today. As this is her first lot and i really want the fry I might strip her within 10 days. Fingers crossed Daniel. How many other fish do you have with your dolphines? Try adding alot of other cichlids just to distract the males aggression.
  17. Oh my oh my. I better sue Cichlid-forum re misinformation. Better still they better close down their site. Blah blah blah it just never stops. You really must have a lonely life. Thanks Rcon021. Thats all I wanted from the start but for some reason some people just want to "keep taking the piss". I guess what ever we read we just cant believe. Oh gee, we have variants now. They must have popped up over night.
  18. Those look like my Mel.Johanni as well Afrikan. Guess I just saw/heard a new name and got all exicited. Always on the look out for new Cichlids
  19. Looks like iam not the only one that doesnt read the forums properly I have J.Marlieri (Burundi). I was asking what variant J.Transcriptus is around. The variants ive seen are from http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/c ... php?cat=11 (Pemba) (Katoto) (Kapampa)
  20. Hi Cant seem to see them on Cichlid-forum.com. The seller has pics posted of a male and female iam guessing they might be Mel.Johanni maturing or something I havent seen before
  21. Yeah i guess you would have 50 odd when you have three breeding pairs that breed non stop. Gee Frenchy, What has numbers got to do with the question I asked. Pretty simple question really. WHAT VARIANT AND PHOTOS. Not to hard to understand. Nothing to do with numbers and how you like taking the piss out of everyone. Oh and if anyone wants some J.Marlieri there will be some available at a LFS in akld. Just PM me for details
  22. It seems in every post you " just cant but help myself" So does anyone else have an idea, that has these in NZ, what type (variant) they have?. ?????No Variant! Iam sure we should be able to find out what variant we have in this country.
  23. Nothing I didnt know before. I asked what type of Transcriptus and for photos
  24. No. we where there first thing in the morning and only a couple of young gals where attending the shop.
