    GBA with a spot

Dont stress to much. My GBA pair are spitting out some fry that develope a brown/black spot. Guess its just natural. Humans get birth marks so we better not cull them

    Sick Fish?

Have noticed recently with one or two fish, when its feeding time, that they take the food into their mouth, give it a couple of chews then spit it out then try the same thing again. They basically do this for a month or so before they die. Have treated for worms, flukes but no luck. Has anyone else noticed this in the first stages of illness and if so what medication have you treated with. Mean while in the same tank I have females holding and doing fine of the same species. ANY IDEAS
  5. Tropheus

    Tropheus

Been a busy couple of weeks lately sorting out fish as the Tropheus have been going crazy spawning. Not sure why but must be the climate change. Pembas, Ikola, Brichardi all doing fantastic and 25 new Bula points juvs to add to the list. But ended up losing 5 Adult Duboisi to bloat. Weird as in the same tank my Tropheus Brichardi's are going off. After years owning Tropheus you think nothing can go wrong, nature slaps you in the face
  7. A couple of pointers for all newbys wanting to purchase Aulonocara Cichlids: 1- Read as much as you can first about the species/varient before you purchase 2- Buy from a reputable Retailer or Private seller. If you see more then one species of Aulonocara in the same tank DO NOT PURCHASE. 3- DO NOT purchase then mix Aulonocara with the same name from two different suppliers as there are alot of variants that look similar. 4-Just because someone has been breeding fish for 1000 years doesnt make them a expert. (EG Winston Peters, not a fish keeper but a joke)  And ENJOY THE HOBBY
  8. Well i guess my twenty odd years with fish has just been a waste of time compared to you Phil. If you are a Importer why not source genuine stock from overseas instead of purchasing rubbish off TM. Christ if I had my importers license I would be the first to make sure NZ has good quilty stock. But I guess thats not the way to go in your view. Iam sure theirs heaps of people out there that would pay for quality.
  9. Yeah Rub sounds cool. Or lets call them RubenJake, or JakeRed or whatever we bloody hell want. Christ if i could express my true feelings i would be kicked off this forum. Phil, Here's an idea! If you are so intent in making the big bucks why not take your time and make a effort to purchase good genuine stock and breed from them, instead of rushing and purchasing anything. Not only will this help and keep what we have as close to clean stock in NZ but also make a good name for yourself as a breeder ie OOA, Johannes, Manie etc            :
  10. My thoughts as well Ryan. Guess some fish keepers try and keep the breeds pure and some just guess and pick a name. Well i guess because its orange/red in must be Rubins. Lets breed millions and sell at a guess.
  11. Hi Try this site for info re ph etc plus theres alot of other sites on the net that will help you. D. Comps have a bad reputation but are really just pussy cats. Any fish that can find something to eat that will fit into his month will eat it. Ive have a colony of full grown D.Comps with some various juvs of 3cm plus and dont have a problem. If you looking for a problem get yourself a Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1062
  12. Hi I wouldnt trust the seller. Ive asked twice now for pics of this OWN male and female (not from the net) but this hasnt happen. So buyer beware.

  16. I was lucky enough to be given these guys so first couple of batchs have been promised for. Think I need them to spawn for me first B4 I get ahead of myself Only problem is finding enough room to separate Alto's in there own tanks as fish room has just gone crazy with fish spawning. Even my Tropheus Brichardi (3 females) are holding.
  17. Sounds awesome photos would be great. Will have ago with my yellows & red Altos. Had my yellows breed twice now and saw wriggles but alway to slow to get them out before the male or female eats them.
  18. Hes a good looking boy. You would think importers in NZ would bring them in considering they bring in Alto's Is that a Cyprichromis female in the background. Guess they ready available in Aussie? Whats your weekly diet for your Alto's and Culvus? Any tips on breeding Alto's?
  19. I guess we can only go on what infomation we have re Aul.OBs. All info ive read refer them as hybrids. Brad have you found anything that differs? http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1372 Ive bred my OBs now for acouple of years and the juv Males are never the same as the original male. I get all sort of colour variations. In the wild they must cross breed at some point you would think?
  20. hi Not a problem. I have 6 different types of male Aul. but no females. Try to get at least 4 of each as some Aul will pick on others especially if colours are similar. Watch out for O.B Aul. as they get aggressive
  21. Looking good. Like the driftwood. Send pics every month to show progress
  22. hi Doch where you get the photo of the first tank from? wouldnt mind specs on it. ta
  23. Hi Wont be a problem but make sure you have a few hiddy holes for him as they get quite shy and nervous. When it comes to feeding time make sure he gets his fare share of food as fronts are very greedy at meal times.
