  1. what about all the other galaxids??? do they not have a sea run larval form???? there is aprox 25 species, I know a few do not run to sea, but only 5????
  2. I think they are larger, cf1200 uses i'll double check in the mrorning and let you know I think the 1200 uses 16/19 pipe but I may be wrong
  3. I would give it a good scrub off first just in case, but the burning of LPG results in CO2 and Water (plus a whole pile of other carbon based output) don't think the paint will leech out much, but i'd do a test run with a coupe of hardy fish just in case before chucking in your main tank.
  4. looks like a rastafarian headbanging to Led Zep
  5. Just noticed on Wikipedia that they claim only 5 species make up our Whitebait, I thought it as higher... anyone able to enlighten me
  6. they are one of the best baits available, oily as bonito, tough as mullet, unfortunately it is illegal to use it.
  7. interesting though that their site doesn't list Osmeriformes under rayfinned fish..... can't be bothered joining google to comment on it though but if someone else is able to would be nice having an observation record of galaxids to refer to.
  8. can I point out that the speaker right next to it will seriously stress the fish out, and certain fish will be seriously affected by the magnetism of the speaker. btw LOVE the art behind it
  9. hate to say it SamH but from a non breeding point of view thats one ugly betta from a breeding point of view.... it needs some work
  10. try hallets bay, http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/319884 btw very nice little site for finding plant species in Taupo (have not had a good search for other areas yet though) http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations?lat=-38.8550986143&lng=175.9434765494
  11. would be a bit of a landmine if they did try to charge them with that, even though it is fully deserved. I personally think its fishing if you intend to use the corpse (eat or for bait) and cruelty if just for the hell of it. makes it a very large grey area.
  12. should fit 25mm tubing i'll check with the rep tomorrow for you. have heard nothing but good about these except slightly higher power usage than some comparable filters (except of course sunsun)
  13. looking very nice dude  is that a needle leaf java going mental????
  14. they do a couple of LED clip ons that suit that tank well but they are a bit pricey (still can't work out why LED lighting is so expensive :dunno: )
  15. you can get PL tubes with oneside one colour one side another, Aquaone does Tropical/sunlight and Marine blue/sunlight tubes
  16. I would recommend the PL tube with one side sunlight and one side tropical, higher in the red and blue spectrums which drive photosynthesis better
  17. nice choice in tank, I think they are one of the best nano designs around commercially. if you've got the CO2 setup I would say go for a heavily planted dwarf puffer tank just remember to leave the puffers til last to add to allow your snails time to begin, and also set up a snail breeding bucket as well before you start
  18. have you used any pH chemicals, a couble of brands use phosphoric acid to lower pH giving readings. also have a good gravel syphon underneath all your rocks/wood/ornaments
  19. lol never noticed that, but yeah I seem to get more shrimp in higher current areas with planted edges. (although higher current doesn't mean much in the streams I go to ) will be investigating a stream in a couple of weeks that I have been told has a population of freshwater shrimp that it would be virtually impossible for them to access the sea (about 500m above sea level with grade 4-5 rapids between them and the main river)... will see what I can find
