  1. "cat fish on a plane" definitely a horror, and now I am going to have nightmares about goonch trying to eat eat me :ton:. Maybe your work cat is avoiding you, and was waiting for you to leave? Have fun and looking forwards to seeing photos of some fishies.
  2. Sounds fun, looking forward to seeing pictures of some cool catfish, have fun.
  3. As long as the heaters aren't broken it won't.
  4. putting it at the other end will work fine, it is what I do. The heaters have a thermostat in them that turns off at the temperature you set them at (although they are not always accurate, and when it says 26 on the thermometer they may be heating to 24 or could be taking the water up to 26 etc).
  5. Awesome pictures, those look like they are awesome tanks.
  6. I wouldn't say it is infected yet, mine got lips when they had a bad fight, that is why I said observe to make sure it doesn't get infected.
  7. Yummy, those weta eggs look tasty. :ton:
  8. Does any one on here have experience with brewing polypterus? Two of my senegalus have have spawned. Most of the eggs were eaten by my jag, but I managed to save a few on some moss and have moved it to another tank. Does any one know what temperature I should have the tank, and how/what should I feed them if/when they hatch in a few days?
  9. Looks like a lip locking injury to me. In my opinion just keep the water clean and watch out for infection.
  10. My polypterus senegalus are courting currently, hopefully they spawn soon. So excited. :bggrn: :bggrn: :bggrn:
  11. Sounds like a good idea to increase the genetic pool in NZ, but I imagine that it would be hard to do, as reptiles can't be imported. Other then that I don't know sorry.
  12. Wow, those snakes are nice. The one on the table is massive. You almost making me want to move to ausi so I can keep some. Almost.
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1o34eB1kGc&feature=player_embedded if you have a spare 40 minutes it is well worth a watch. I found it very informing and entertaining.
  14. A couple of hundred liter tank will be good as a grow out, but they do grow large, so in a few years they will need a much larger tank, 1000L + (or if you are in the right part of the country you can put them in a pond instead. You will need a heater yes. Turtles can be stupid and and swallow stones, so it is best not to have any that fit in there mouths and they can block there intestines. So it is best to be big stones, or sand on the bottom. You do need some way for them to get out of the water, if you buy a 'turtle tank' they come with a built in ramp that they can come out of the water on. Turtles are messy animals for there size, so you will need strong filtration on it. I find a canister is best to put on it, they provide good filtration. UV light is important, if they don't have one over there 'sunbathing area' then they can get shell rot. Good luck with your turtle, they are fun animals and aren't that hard to keep. if you have any more questions remember to ask.
  15. I use terra-cotta pots, but you need to make sure that they don't have fertilizer or anything on them, so I have always just bought new ones for my tanks. Also I read somewhere that if your pot is glazed it will leach chemicals into your water.
  16. Drool, love the croc's. What are your long term plans with the slat water crocodile?
  17. Wow, nice snakes. And your photography skills are good to. (Sigh, I wish I could keep snakes over the ditch here)
  18. Welcome to the forum. herps are cool, it is just a shame we can't keep any snakes here.
  19. Looks like a nice idea, but in the demonstration it seems to me that it uses a lot of water up as waste for the amount of dirt taken out. Maybe having to be careful because I am on tank water makes me a bit more sensitive to the amount used though.
  20. Nice, I am waiting for dad to set up one of them so he can turn his plum wine into Slivovitz. (he has been talking about doing it for years, but has never got the distiller.)

    New Article

Whooooo, don't remember reading that one before. Yet another good article. Well done Darren Stevens.
  22. I love using the likes of pothos, they work gret for me keeping nitrates down, I find that after they grow a bit you can cut them in half and put the new half in the water, and it wil grow (double the amount of plants you have for no cost). Personally I find peace lily to work better then pothos, but they do take up more room then the pothos.
  23. Looking good, the fish look small in that tank.
