  1. Whoooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Finally set up my new tank, a small 900L, my first big boy tank. So excited.
  2. Welcome to NZ, you seem to have had some real nice tanks in the past, good luck with setting up tanks over here. (and not get too disappointed about the lack of variety and cost of some fish).
  3. No idea, but hopefully they are exported with the right permits not smuggled out.
  4. This is the list of all registered quarantine facilities. You would have to contact one of them about it, and ask. It won't be cheap to do. Your fish also has to be on "The List"
  5. Wow, Nice to hear of farmers doing positive things for environment.
  6. Just upsized from a 300L to a 900L   :bounce: :bounce: I have american cichlids and polypterus in it, so quite different from yours.
  7. Welcome Jay How big is your african tank? I am also from east auckland (beachlands)
  8. I find bare bottom to look un natural, so always but enough sand to cover the bottom in the tank just so that it looks better.
  9. The only way to really control BBA is with excel, as not much eats it, and almost nothing will touch the older stuff, if you tank the ornaments with bra really bad on it out and scrape the worst of it off/ boil them to kill the bba you can get rid of most of it out of your tank and make things look nicer. Getting rid of your sale fin plec would help, as they produce a lot of waste, that helps your algae grow.
  10. Wow, nice tank. I do like it a lot. What are the fish in it?
  11. I feed mine hikari micro pellets, the love the stuff, and seem to look healthy, so I am not changing it atm.
  12. Permiantly for how long? :ton:
  13. Your welcome. Your tank looks nice, how big is it?
  14. Here is the thread describing how to do it, any problems with it?
  15. Just because it has a primitive lung doesn't make it a lung fish, There are only two sorts of lung fish (to my knowledge) african lungfish, and australian lung fish.
  16. That looks like a polypterus senagaus to me. Definitely isn't a lung fish.
  17. Irrational prejudice against the name, in the same way we will never get snake heads (channa)
  18. I imagine for something like that it will never get added to the list, your more likely to be able to get a special licence to be able to keep them. (Just speculating) A little while ago it was discussed having all member add a list of fish they keep, if that was done it would be the nearest to a list of all the fish we get in NZ that we will ever have.
  19. haha, they are not aggressive. And if you have multiple cichlids the tank tends to be calmer, as none of the fish like to over commit in attack.
  20. You can keep 10 in a tank together, but I personally don't think your tank is big enough to keep 10 in long term. And Rivulatus are not as aggressive as stalsbergi.
  21. I am not an expert on discus and clown loaches, other then knowing a lot of people who keep them together. But I do know that if you increase the temperature high enough you can kill off white spot because it becomes to high for them to reproduce, and for sensitive fish like discus and loaches it is a safer way to get rid of a white spot infestation. Also there are two (ish) theories about white spot, one that you introduce them with fish, then if you treat the properly you can get rid of them out of your tank completely, the other one being that white spot is always dormant in your tank, and it takes some trigger (stress usually) to have a white spot out break, there is not proof that I have managed to find proving either way being true.
  22. I have seen some in the streams before, up in the bush, but I haven't seen any in a while.
