  1. just river sand and unicorn tears. I think that there is hair grass (although I thought I had lost it all), Rotala rotundifolia, I trhink that there is some Hydrocotyle verticillata still in there, I had Hygrophila polysperma in there, Ludwigia sp, two Myriophyllum sp, Gratiola sexdentata and a sedge
  2. These are growing in a plastic bin on the side porch with a sheet of glass over it. Gets direct sunlight until about 11am.
  3. I cant hear the cf1200 over the noise of the built in filter on another in the room.
  4. :gpo2: Here you can see the difference to the adsl2+ connection I had in the UK http://www.speedtest.net/results.php?sh=85ecfba11d931476e4ebd3603ea29a89&ria=0
  5. Can't normally hear my aquaone cf1200 unless it has air in it, and only about $130 at HFF copes well on my 400l system
  6. just a download rate or sync is meaning less and nothing can really be said about the line other than that it is synced. the important bit is the relationship between SNR, attenuation and sync.
  7. I had an adsl2+ connection/sync in the UK running at a full 24meg down and on a good day 2.6meg up :digH: before street cabs so direct to the exchange, about 400m of copper from modem to dslam
  8. You will only see an increase is sync speed on adsl2+ if you are (off the top of my head) less than 1800 - 2000m from the exchange/cab. That is on a standard noise setting of 6dB, as in NZ all ISPs that I've seen (most dont own there own equipment in the exchange so are at the mercy of telecom wholesale/chorus) use a 12dB profile you will have to be even closer to the DSLAM. Somewhere I have a program that I wrote that will test what the modem sees and can spot if there are problems on the line - not as good as a HAWK (or what ever chorus use here)
  9. I'm with Mark on this, use pvc cement.about $15/18 a small tube/pot last time I brought some.
  10. I would go with a relay and get a sparkie to wire it up.
  11. My big giant kokopu would probably give it a fair go as well. The big black crickets vanish in one mouth full normally.
  12. That glass is one of the best so far Joe, you are getting better methinks
  13. Sounds good, but you need to get an IBC or a few more drums. But then after it's full you wont need to collect that much water again.
  14. The white striped anemones are trying to take over the rock they came in on, started with 3 now there are at least 3 new small ones as well. May have miss ID'd the crab - look more like mud crabs :dunno: Ammonia has fallen to under .25 at a guess and nitrites look to have peeked and there are some nitrates so the cycle is underway, just have to wait for the longest part of the cycle. Diatoms have started, there is a tiny bit of green algae and it looks like two of the macros are starting to grow. All of the (what looked like) green hair algae got eaten by the shrimp/snails in the first week.
  15. do you know of a calculator that will tell me how long a bit of string I'll need to reach from 'here to there'? You will need to tell the good folks around here what sort of plants, how deep is the water, what the surface area is, what type of LED, what the wattage of each are, the wavelengths the LED produce...
  16. :smot: I think I know where he means - under some nice old pohutukawa with an old stone wharf? Was where we got water and livestock when we lived in waihi as a kid and had a 4ft local marine in the lounge (some nearly 30 years ago)
  17. anyway I think we are :smot: Back to getting rid of the invader - have you yried one of the freshwater sharks? with a laser on it's head?
  18. not allowed for fish and crayfish, so I would assume the same for shrimp etc
  19. I'm not able to attend this months waikato meeting and I doubt I'll be able to get to the next one either. I think that Caryl's summary should be made available to all clubs (and members) via email.
  20. Not allowed to ship natives between Islands sorry...
  21. And a large enough dose of that will rid the tank of any snails* NAV is Naturalist Against Vermin** * And all other life forms from the bio-filter to the plants and the fish ** Don't ask me why they have branched out into pest eradication, one would think that they had enough on their hands
