  1. Awesome thanks guys  I'll have a hunt in Bunnings for a few then. I just cant get over how cheap they are
  2. My aquarium light bulb blew today and I was wonderimg if I could just go out and get a cheap, normal bulb from bunnings to replace it. Im not trying to grow plants so ut doesnt need to be a fancy bulb or anything. Would this work?
  3. Oooh I know where to find heaps of canterbury mudfish but I dont know how to get there haha
  4. I'd treat him then put him back in once hes better
  5. Stella, are you meeting Angus from uc? hes a freshwater lecturer and so awesome! Disco, we need pictures of your dog!!
  6. They have such grumpy faces. Heres mine, hopefully some turn out to be copper since their grandfather was
  7. +1 Furan is my favourite to use, easily cures almost anything. Hope he gets better soon
  8. I also have snail rid which is copper sulfate. Would that be better to put in than a piece of copper?
  9. My fry have velvet and i was researching it and learnt that copper kills it. Do you think a 10 cent coin in the water will kill it? Or will my fry be affected by the copper as well I'm also blacking out the tank from all light since it has a photosynthetic stage and adding salt.
  10. I have an aquaone barracks. Horrible things to clean, need to do water changes almost everyday, and the drippy things jam up and dont drip water out, fish jump out, small stupid ones swim through the hole and either get stuck or disappear into the sump depending on if they are on the top or bottom rack. Plus if the sump isnt topped up on a daily basis the heater will become exposed within 2 days and blow. Haha sorry for the rant about them, they are handy for growing out young fish though if you cover up the hole at the back I only use them for short term housing to grow up young males. Females can be very nasty to each other. They are naturally solitary fish and some females need to be treated like males (separated from everyone else). I do as Sam suggested and put plastic in between the jars so they cant see each other. In my opinion coke bottles with holes would be the most efficient way of keeping them, I would if i had space.
  11. Aw yours were some of the best in NZ Nice  any photos? A DTCT would be pretty cool to create
  12. Yeah, I know what you mean, I find it impossible to find a truly nice fighter at the moment. Pks are the best ones without a doubt. Hopefully we get some nice hmpk back into the country huh
  13. Thanks the second one is the mum. They were the result of a hm x traditional pk bred by James. I want to improve on the tail and dorsal and get some nice hmpks in the long run Aw Sam! get back into the fighters!
  14. Just wondering whos breeding what at the moment. Currently I have a blue pk x black lace pk geno sibling cross spawn that are around 2 weeks old.
  15. Still $75 each for a VT. They are worth $10 each at most Haha Livingart, that picture is genius :slfg:
  16. $150 for a VT. Just a common blue petstore VT...What is the world coming to  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =516021540 But its not just any VT its a "Top show quality vt" Now if only VT were an IBC recognized fin type and allowed to compete in shows. Gone are the days when we could get truly nice fighters on trademe for decent prices
  17. :nfs: I dont know if I'd class him as elephant ear though, his pectorals are still the same size as a normal betta, just colored white, which is pretty common in salamander coloured bettas
  18. Haha yeah they might help Pink control OUT=11 IN=10 Pink OUT=7 IN=23 Green control OUT=2 IN=15 Green OUT=2 IN=23
  19. I have some Marine biology stats to do but I'm stuck on what stats would be best suited for the type of data I have :smln: We took some catseyes that we found in crevices and some that we found out of crevices and marked them 2 different colours (eg green were snails collected from in crevices and pink were snails collected out of crevices) Then we put half of the snails back in the type of habitat we got them from (eg a snail from a crevice were put back into crevices and vice versa) the other half were put in the oppsosing habitat (eg a snail from a crevice was placed out of a crevice and vice versa) The next day we went back and took note of where the snails had went back to. So we have 4 categories (pink control, pink, green control and green) and 2 data sets for each (whether they were in or out of a crevice) So what stats would you recommend for this? chi 2? Hope this made sense haha Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  20. Mine were savage, had 5 all alone in a 54 litre tank, they tore shreds in each other chasing and fighting. They all had ripped fins and missing scales... Even my fighters arent as bad as that
  21. haha the dumbos are creepy though, turns a perfectly nice hmpk into a clown :sml2: . Give me a well balanced hmpk anyday
  22. Its possible he could just be a long fin but a late bloomer. Luckily though all his siblings will be carrying pk and with the extra branching you've chucked in there from the hm father the F2 should result in some nice transitional pk even maybe some hmpk if you choose the siblings carefully (straight tail edge, more ray branching etc) We need heaps of hmpk theres not enough in nz at the moment all the hmpk have dopey elephant ears attached to their heads haha
  23. Hes cute looks like a pk, do you know how old he is? Traditionals have 2 ray branching while hmpk have at least 4. This has more than 2 but his tails rounded and doesnt have a D shape tail so not hmpk. Technically I guess you could call them transitional pk (in between traditional and halfmoon pk) haha. Its probably got some delta or hm chucked in his background to give him the extra ray branching but crossed out to a traditional to give the roundy tail and uneven branching :smln:
  24. Alanmin, that set up you described sounds ideal but the chances of me getting my hands on something like that are almost impossible, I wish I knew a nurse or doctor haha Stella, that the idea I was thinking of do you think they would be able to survive tropical waters? Thats pretty awesome that you got some bullys in there were they just feeding on the invertebrates that were in the water? Casserole, hmm that sounds good too. So the moss from the buckets outside puts all kinds of little organisms into the inside tank? How long did it take to establish the green and get the buckets loaded with daphnia?
