  1. It takes on many forms but its the same plant. I quite like the look of java fern, I might see if I can find some in the store Here it is in stalk mode And it looks like this in other clumps Also what is this plant that is sticking out of my tank? Can I just cut it and replant it? You can see the mass of whatever this weed is covering the top
  2. I have a tank thats full of what I think is indian fern. It looked quite nice when the plants were small and bushy but now its grown stalky and tall, so my tank pretty much looks like stalks with leaves covering the entire top and it looks awful. So I was wondering, is there any bushy looking plant that stays at a medium height and is easy to keep alive? I want to give my tank a makeover
  3. Sorry to hear you lost your fish :-( I dont think he died of depression. My guess is that he was already unhealthy to begin with, which would explain his "depressed" behaviour. All healthy young fighters should be greedy and active and it shouldnt take them 5 days to get used to new surroundings, should only take them 10 mins or so. You noticed he had a damaged mouth at the beginning, maybe that had something to do with an illness or disease. Also are you sure he was 2 months? that chart is quite inaccurate since most spawns grow at different rates. He could have been a runt, or the whole spawn could have been stunted
  4. Too much flaring can cause them to blow their fins and damage them. But not enough flaring will prevent them from reaching their full potential fiinagewise. So there needs to be a fine balance. 20 min daily is overkill imo I give mine a couple of mins flaring roughly every second day just for exercise and to keep them aggressive, but yeah as others have stated that rumor that their fins will stick together is pretty false. Sticky fins is usually a side affect of a sick fish
  5. Got a few promising black copper females And a few coppers with red loss which is exactly what I need. This one has pretty decent branching too, this line tends to give the female weak branching but Im glad theres a few in this spawn who escaped the pattern Also found a few black copper males, this one has just been jarred, getting better branching tan his father too. Fsather was only 2 ray at that age but this guy is 4
  6. Like this http://greatbettafishcare.blogspot.co.n ... m-egg.html You mix and egg with water it with water in a bowl until its all mixed together. Then you get something like this http://i2.squidoocdn.com/resize/squidoo ... er-pot.jpg Bit of water in the bottom pot, bowl of egg mixture in on the top pot Put the lid on and leave it for about 15-20mins or until you can scoop a chunk out with a spoon Then get a fish net, squeeze a chunk of steamed egg through that into water so it is just small chunks instead of one big chunk. Then pour that new egg water into a drink bottle and enjoy the ease :-) Also the pair have spawned and babies have hatched :-D
  7. Currently conditioning the pair, the male is building nests but they are tiny. Female is barred and flirty but still not very plump yet so I'll give her a week of fattening up before I introduce them. Heres a little vid I discovered the most amazing and easiest betta food in the world. Even the fussy girl loves it and she hates live food, bloodworms and everything else that bettas are meant to love... Steamed eggs every single one of my bettas love it and its so easy to make and feed to them. Just squeeze it through a fish net intyo some water, put it in a drink bottle then squirt it into the tanks/jars. Very high in protein so apparently its really good for them too

    shiping fish

What would they do if they found out you had a fish with you?
  9. Thanks those places are perfect! :-) and long plastics is relatively close to where I live. I'll definitely be heading there next when I run out. Storage box had tiny poly boxes for $11 each . I imagine it would be so much cheaper to buy in bulk from those factory type places.
  10. Looked at the male today and hes actually just a traditional pk... I was blinded by his colours lol. Still going to breed him to the girl though, it will be more of a colour spawn rather than a finnage spawn I guess now. Hopefully the cross will produce some relatively sharper finned fish but not expecting much I just love this female shes so cute
  11. Went to countdown and they gave me a few fish head boxes, got tere just intime, they were about to get thrown out Im glad it can be done, I might try that next time I need some boxes. It would be a good way to put those massive poly boxes Ive got lying around to good use. That would be amazing if its not too much of a hassle. Id really appreciate that
  12. Ohh Ill have a hunt tomorrow then, the store I got them form told me they were fed live food which explains why she has no clue about dry food. Would sand hoppers do the trick too? Thanks :-D hopefully I get some gooduns out of them
  13. Aw Caryl that would have been perfect, Ive got real bad timing like that lol. The ideal size would be around 30-40cm long, 18-20cm tall and 20cm wide. Youve all installed new hope in me lol. Ill head to plastic box tomorrow and ask at a few supermarkets. I got given some big boxes from the petshop incase I need to do some diy too. Also I have a few cardboard boxes, would lining them with poly do a good trick or do they need to be in an actual poly box for the couriers to accept it
  14. What are youre secrets . I gave her blood worms but she only ate a few. Where would I find dirthoppers? ive got some betta pellets I could try using with them
  15. Where do people buy their polystyrene boxes? Ive tried the post office, medical centres, petshops, seafood places. Boxes are either too big or they dont have any at all. Im at such a loss :nilly:
  16. Thanks :-D Yeah Ive got no clue if they are related or not, hope not since I dont want to fix the round tail trait in. Female is really fussy and cant get her to eat her flakes...the only thing she likes is Insect Directs high protien cricket powder lol. But Ive got her with the juvies so they can teach her a thing or 2 about flakes
  17. Im a sucker for bright colours. Really hope I can get that colour in the fry when I breed them
  18. I gave in and bought myself 2 new bettas yesterday. A male dragon marble hmpk and dragon female hmpk. Male has some faults particularly the round tail and dorsal and the kinked ventrals but I fell for his body and colour, hopefully the female can help straighten out some of his faults I cant wait to breed them :-D
  19. Small update I had a couple of x factors with messed scales in this spawn unfortunately. But I found one promising little copper male. Theres also a few black coppers but so far they look like girls. This colour is growing on me, the copper on their light bodies makes them so shiny And some little marbles
  20. They are very lazy fish, especially the long finned ones. You can even buy betta hammocks for them to lie on lol. Try showing him a mirror and see if that perks him up
  21. Obviously Seddon and Wellington are actually in Australia http://guardianlv.com/2013/07/severe-ea ... australia/
  22. Its a bit sad how we havent heard any news about Seddon or places that are closer to the quake
  23. Lol Taupos gonna destroy the north and Alpine faults gonna destroy the south...NZ is great
