  1. Also make sure your hm are actual hm (180, sharp tails and 4 or more ray branching). Ive seen hundreds of fish being called hm just because one parent was hm, but the fish in question are actually just vts or roundtailed deltas. Yeah youd want to find a mustard gas ideally, since yellows pretty recessive. If you cant though, yellow is recessive to red so if you find a good blue/red bicolour then first gen will give you blue/reds but breed back to dad or bro x sis and you should see blue/yellow Try and stay clear of red or yellow wash and aim for a good bi colour if you can though
  2. Haha thanks! I dont know about aquabid quality though Yep all from the same spawn. I just take out the biggest bullies, then sell them. When/if I run out of room I use cokebottles with holes in them inside a plastic tub Heres some ladies :-D And this will be the guy who will most likely be the father of the next gen...he has the best rays, body and sharpest tail (even though its still really round lol) Most others were so horribly round... And my fave guy whos unfortunately no use for breeding. I just love his colours I think plan for the next gen will be an outcross to a sharp hmpk to fix up the finnage. I got given a few really nice red males and females who have incredibly sharp tails so they should be able to help sharpen up the dragons. Problem is Id have to sacrifice colour for the first gen, since dragon cross red wont be very pretty... but it will be worth it But check out the tail! as sharp as a knife!! All siblings are consistently sharp so it would be interesting to see if the reds can help defeat the round tails
  3. Deltas are essentially failed halfmoons and you can find then in hm spawns. With hm being the perfect goal for the breeder the deltas fail to make the grade because they dont poseses the branching and spread that enables them to reach the ideal 180. Superdeltas can at least be useful and can produce hm offspring if crossed with a good hm, but deltas are essentially useless and often culled. Vt have arent currently recognized by show standards so show breeders dont breed them. Most (99%) are hugely mass produced with no care to their form, colour or health. Plus they will mess up any other tail type you try and breed with for generations, and its hard too get the vt influence out of the line. That being said, my most favourite betta was my red vt called Edgar
  4. If the shield thing is what Im thinking of, its just their skulls :-) Good luck on your ct journey and hope your new fish arrive safely!
  5. Good luck, they are rare enough in the rest of the world. Your best bet would be to start a line from scratch which will be uber hard and take ages but really fun and rewarding. I know a guy who did a ct x pk so I guess you could use them as you foundation stock since the first cross has already been done, then its all just a matter of choosing the best web reductions and form until you get to your ideal shape Heres a good site with breeders all over the world helping each other to create ctpk from scratch http://ctpkbreeder.blogspot.co.nz/ could be useful if you want to go in the direction of ctpk (which you should 8) )
  6. This is gonna be awesome when its all finished!
  7. Welcome! Bettas are crazily addictive
  8. If you go onto https://www.facebook.com/groups/150909571710093/ theres a couple of people with female cts and ct spawns. Also check out here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=66076 Adrienne shows how to get nice ct girls from an original ct x non ct spawn (takes a few generations though) Good luck on your search!
  9. An overload of some jarred male pictures. Male 4 is my favourite one
  10. Thatd be awesome Adrienne. Heres some pics Heres him younger and starting to marble And this is him now
  11. Since he showed me he was just a partial albino hes actually turned into the ugliest thing  Hes grown black fins and a brown body with 2 white patches. All his fins are round too, even the ventrals lol, and hes fussy and only eats hand fed bloodworms if you let go of them at the exact right time, otherwise he will ignore them. Ill take a pic sometime
  12. I may be able to help you with a male dragon hmpk in the near future (marble dragon though so dont know if you want that or not), at the moment Im getting rid of my dragon trad pks and havent really sorted through the hmpk ones yet, theres only about 4 so far though They arent the sharpest either since their fathers trad influence messed them up, but some selective breeding should fix that out if youre game enough lol. Female wise tbh Ill be lucky to get one sharp 180 girl. But hopefully if I do an F2 I might have some sharper boy and girl dragons Also theres a guy who bred a super red hmpk pair which are looking sharper than mine, if you want hmpk and dragon isnt essential you could hit him up. From what Ive seen they are the best hmpk out there at the moment As for ct, theres a couple of people on the page that max posted who have some ct spawns going, but I dont know of their quality or whether they are cambo or not, I havent see pics of the parents. Not many people are breeding for ct for some weird reason +1 on having to do multiple generations to see good quality, unfortunately thats the only way to get a decent fish in nz Ohm female will be a challenge for you, maybe see if donm has any. I know a while ago he put up some true hm males so maybe he might have some sibling females...be careful though and make sure to see a full flare pic before buying anything that is claimed to be hm/hmpk. Also be careful since many ohm are rosetails and you definitely dont want x factor in your line so check the branching and scales before you buy one. But if you find do a good one she will def help the spread of her offspring and youll have to tell me where you found her lol Good luck on your searches and your project!
  13. would be real cool if he marbles all the way to black and has the red eyes
  14. Its turned into the ugliest fish Ive ever seen in my life. I kind of hate him  and hes so fussy Hes gained some black so he was just a partial albino. He used to blow nests for the female runt that was in his tank but now Ive taken her out Binu that one looks really cool, will be interesting to see how it looks when its older
  15. I am going to move to Australia next year so a snake is definitely on my list of things I need when I get there, especially after seeing your ones. Id embarrass them by doing this kind of thing though...
  16. Woah your snakes are awesome! Especially the red belly black snakes! Want one so bad now
  17. Your babies are sounding really good! Its crazy how much they change colour ae! one day they are blue, then 2 days later they are white. I think we need to see some pictures of yours :-D I can only imagine what went into making those parents lol. Its weird how its hardly ever a nice 50 50 split between sexes ae. I wonder if there actually is something like water temp of pH that controls how many males or females you get in a spawn. At least you have a good chance of finding a good quality female in your batch. They are literally the hardest thing to find lol
  18. A few males. Dragon scales are taking ages to fill in... Finnagewise theres only about 3 males with potential, but Im lucky that theres even that considering the fathers traditional pk finnage. Most of this spawn is male, so far Ive found only 3 girls, hopefully there will be more hiding in the bunch
  19. I think I have one of these tanks, the 34L version one. My fighter didnt like it and kept getting blown around. So I put a flow restrictor in the spray pipe thing (where it sprays over the filter media). It has slowed the force of the water that comes out into a little trickle instead of the full force jets that it used to do. Hes much happier with the tank now
  20. Forzamaxxi1 fighters are pretty addicting! especially once you start breeding them as Im sure youve found lol I usually jar based on size and aggression, mine are usually 3-3.5cm when I jar. I like to keep the good ones in the growout as long as possible and jar the less promising earlier so I can grow them up and get rid of them faster. But with longfinned fish like hm or ct some people like to jar the good ones first so theres less risk of fin damage in the growout (but I have hmpk so I dont need to worry about that too much lol) I find that age doesnt really matter in terns of jarring, if you put them in a big tank and make sure they always have fat, full tummies then they will grow fast. My black line grows really slowly but these dragons are growing much faster even though they are given the same treatment so genetics also plays into how fast a spawn grows. SS Nah I cant do a repeat of this spawn because the female died :-( Im definitely doing an F2 though, maybe Ill get albino again
  21. I always thought angels had conformation standards to breed towards like bettas and discus. If so, then as long as your pair are close to standard and the next generation will be an improvement on the parents then inbreeding is a very useful tool. It lets you narrow down on selected traits which would get lost in an outcross. I personally wouldnt want to go higher than F4 but there are breeders of betta who go up to F6 before adding newblood without side effects so I dont see how angels would be too different
  22. Just been googling them, and found quite a bit of interesting info, particularly here,http://www.predatoryfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?223-Red-Eye-Bettas. Apparently you can get partial albinos which have red eyes but half of them can see, they also have colour. I wonder if crossing a full albino to a partial albino with good eyes will help strengthen the vision of a pure albino. I had an angelfish who went blind, he could only eat blood worms that were in front of his face, but yeah a herbivore would find life easier, I wonder if albino cories are blind or partially blind as well? Im going to see if I can train him to come when I tap the water, my other bettas do it and it will make finding food much easier for him if he learns
  23. Ghaz thats really helpful info Interesting that you got some from a marble x as well...maybe the marble might have something to do with it. Unfortunately the mother died which was a shame because she was the nicer fish than the father, she would have been able to improve the form quite nicely. Sorry you lost your fighters in the quake :-( mine did the opposite in the chch ones, lost everything but the fighters. Ive put it in a little dark tank with heaps of plant cover and Im pretty sure this guy is blind as a bat :-( It cant find food even though its directly in front of him and bumps into every single thing. I think he found food by sensing all the crazy movement in the water made by his siblings and following it. Ive mixed garlic into his beefheart so hopefully that helps him to find it easier. I dont think this guy will ever breed since hes pretty blind and I dont think he would even know theres a female/male in the tank (dont why why but I keep refering to it as a male even though I dont know it sex yet) Wonder if it was because I left him in the brightly lit tank for too long and his eyesight deteriorated faster tan normal. Alexyay, I get where youre coming from, personally I dont like albino anythings (they creep me out lol) I prefer the bright shiny dragons. Im mainly curious about how its inherited in bettas and how they grow, especially since they are so rare not much is known about them. It would be good to develop a strain that doesnt go blind or at least find out how to prevent/reduce the chance of them from going blind as they get older. But fighters are solitary animals so its not unheard of to keep a single fighter by itself. Blind fish can learn pretty quickly how to find food so as long as the albinos are treated with extra care and attention then they should be fine. Definitely not for a beginner who wants an easy pet though
  24. Small update :-D Most of the babies are marble now, Ive started jarring the bullies. I also found a cute little orange male and an albino
