  1. I used a black rubbish bag, made it look kinda 3D. Was cool for a bit but got sick of it really quickly because of the shine
  2. How would I go about shipping glass cats. Ive only had experience shipping bettas and they dont need to worry about O2 levels in the water because they breathe air but how much water should have glass cats have? And should they be in individual bags? They are adults and only 3 of them. Ive seen how easily fish can run out of O2 overnight in an overstocked tank when power ran out and really dont want that to happen to them
  3. Update on male 1s babies At the moment I cant see any of his color but they have only just started to colour up so hopefully theres some hiding in there. So far the main colours are these
  4. I think theres a few tank makers in chch. They make personalized fighter tanks so surely they can at least fix the bottom of a tank. I dont know where to find them though. But if you have facebook you can ask on the chch fish clubs page here http://www.facebook.com/groups/270668301833/. I think thats where the tank makers hang out or at least people who know where to find them
  5. Id have a hunt on trademe. It ususally has cheap tanks that are in christchurch http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Categor ... -aquariums
  6. I found some old driftwood that had been sitting in a bucket of water for about a year. I took iot out and it was covered in small, flat round grey slimy patches and also black stalks with slimy round tops like this very well drawn picture I made. (The big brown block is the wood) Only the submerged part had this fungus so I assume it needs water to survive. I boiled it in water and scraped most of it off. Will it be ok to put in my fish tank?
  7. Im sorry to hear that you're losing fry. Do you feed them immediately when they start free swimming? because if they dont have food within a couple of hours they become weak and starve. How big is your tank? If its too big the fry may not be able to find the food. Is the water you add for water changes the same temp as the tank water? Are you accidentally sucking up fry when you do water changes?
  8. !drool: Macrostoma is one of my favourite bettas!
  9. +1 And take 1000's of photos of the same fish so you get one good picture haha
  10. They are fun little fish! Your tanks are so beautiful and lush What types are you breeding Ive currently got 1 week old fry from this guy and his sister And setting up a spawn today for this dude and his sister whos the same colour as him
  11. :rolfl: I dont think theyd let me take one I think you should probably do it! Set up a spawn with male 1 and a blue half sibling. :happy2: They cant figure out how to wrap properly
  12. Thanks Yeah their colours were a pleasant surprise considering their father was blue and mother was dark body red lol so I wasnt expecting much colourwise. Yip male 1 is my avatar pic. Yeah he never got as dark as your blue guy which is a shame and I didn't get any black girls so I think Ill breed him to a copper female (a sister of your copper girl) from my other line whos mother was black to hopefully darken up his babies. But her finnage isnt as good as her blue sisters so I cant decide whether to go for 100% coppers or a chance of coppers with better fins.... But then again I have male 4 and good fems to keep a line of nice fins and maybe eventually I can cross the colour into the fins... :nilly: Arrg too many options I just did a huge cull so have cleared up room for a few new spawns  Im quite surprised that I havent killed my microworms yet, usually I can only keep them going for a few weeks.
  13. The pics work for me... Hmm I'll try again Male 1 Male 2 Male 3 Male 4 Mutant fin
  14. I'm really pleased with how my babies are turning out. Their grandfather was a hm and grand mother was traditional pk. I'm up to F2 now and they are starting to take the shape of a true hmpk :bggrn: Male 4 in particular has amazingly straight edges considering 2 generations back were round tailed pk. I have a matching female who also has very straight edges so I cant wait until they become big enough to breed. I think male 1 has the best colour and eventually I hope to get that colour into some sharper finnage. Im not a fan of their dorsals at the moment as they look too pointy and toplines could be worked on a bit more but other than that Im quite impressed with how they turned out I also got one little mutant, with a spike at the front of the anal fin Im so excited for F3 :nilly:
  15. Chilling out in the hot pools at hanmer springs and eating far too much chocolate
  16. I am in love with your tank. You've done a really good job on it
  17. In nz I imagine it would be 2 punks chucking any pet shop fish together as opposed to the pros over in Thailand who spend their life conditioning, training and breeding the perfect fighter
  18. I haven't seen any fighters that are vt. They are all plakats
  19. I'm pretty sure plakats are used for fighting since they are faster and been bred for strength instead of looks. They are also kept in jars and must always be in their peak condition, otherwise they would lose. I was using the vt example to explain that without a method of raising and housing hundreds of separate individuals we would not be able to have the selection of types that we have today. I thought the ove wrinkeled sharpei we see today is a result of show breeders breeding for form not function. Much like the english bulldog
