  1. For all everyone is quick to suggest dropsy, I have never seen it in a fish. It could be a growth or tumour of some kind. Is it acting like all the rest and eating well?

    Lookie Lookie

Personally I can't think what you saw in him phillz  Seriously, nice fella.
  3. It would not be good for the tank to transport it with fish and water in it - even if you lowered the level. Too much stress on the glass. How are they travelling? In a transporter's truck? Private car? Trailer?
  4. Since it is 30C here I might just use it as an excuse to go wading to catch them anyway
  5. I know little about diseases in fish but I do know that when they are sick they can form extra slime for protection. Is it possible it is just the extra slime sloughing off? You have to be careful what you put on clown loaches cos they don't have scales like most fish. I am also at work so don't have access to my disease book.
  6. Thanks for that Rob. We do have little black beetles that dive straight down in the pond and are very difficult to catch! We will make a concerted attempt to catch them all.
  7. OK, I do believe Sunday will be spent trying to kill as many as possible. Am working today (great having Jetstream at work too) and Friday working at the wine festival all day Saturday. Oh damn, have an MX5 run on Sunday hmmm might have to be Monday's job.
  8. A gauntlet adventurer apparently - whatever that is. Having never had any of these games the names mean nothing to me.
  9. Just because a shop has a tank with white spot in it doesn't mean it is a bad shop. They may not have noticed it until Travis pointed it out and rightly thanked him for pointing it out. If the tanks in the shop have it, then his should have it too unless they were stressed after his were removed in which case it is quite possible that the fish he bought do not have white spot, even if the rest in the shop do. If the shop immediately took steps to treat the tank and refused to sell the fish in it, then that is quite acceptable.
  10. Thanks for the link Vjarn but I don't think any of the critters in their pics match mine :-?
  11. Nice pics phillz, you are getting better at it
  12. The word is voluptuous phillz  That large they are sure to be pregnant They will drop fry every 4 - 6 weeks on average. faster in warmer temps.
  13. Anyone know what these are? It has been suggested they might be dragonfly larvae. They are about 1 - 2cm long and glide along the bottom of the pond, up the sides and out of the water. They also swim at midlevel. They can also climb up the sides of nets and plastic containers! You can compare their size to the mozzie larvae at the top and the daphnia around it. I need to know should I be trying to get them out of the pond in case they eat fish fry?
  14. What sex are they? I suspect your sex ratio may be the cause of the aggression. They should be equal numbers of boys and girls. I always found dwarf gouramis to be quite peaceful but I know others who have said the opposite! To sex gouramis, look at their dorsal (the fin at the top) and tail fins. Males have longer fins with long points whereas the females' fins are shorter and rounded.
  15. Never too late to show off one's fishes
  16. That is a new name on me, but searching the net tells me its average size is 35cm. Got a bigger tank? In my experience keyholes are usually very peaceful. Perhaps I just had wimps
  17. That's what we're here for
  18. Perhaps the bristlenoses ate the snails off the lettuce? I have never tried the lettuce trick myself, just been told it works.
  19. Well then you have come to the right place with this site!

    Alan's Turtles

The turtles went camping? On their own or did you go too? Would have loved to see them pitching their own tent. I now have this mental picture of Sid and Melon on their holiday
  21. Java moss is commonly found. When cleaning, just lightly move the siphon over it high enough so it doesn't suck the moss up as well. A lot of it will cling to the rock naturally. Anchor a small piece down to start with to keep it in place. You can also wrap fishing line around it to hold it down. Once the moss grows, the line is covered over.
  22. Won't you be sticking the stuff together, waiting for it to dry, and then adding it to the tank?
  23. No one answered?? herefishiefishie gave a very comprehensive reply. Sorry we have wasted your precious time.
  24. If you have an all glass aquarium then it must be ok under water as the sealant in the tanks is under the water isn't it? Lots of people silicone rocks together to keep them in place or silicone logs to the tank glass etc. If you can't make your log sink, silicone it to a sheet of perspex or glass and put it on the base covered with gravel to hold it down, or silicone the perspex to the base of the tank. As long as your sealant is aquarium safe you can use it in the tank.
