  1. Cool, people DO read flyers! Get that club going guys! Contact me if you need any help or advice on how to start.
  2. I believe they are trying to get a club going in Tauranga. Talk to Alan, a member here, as I believe he is working on Tauranga or Whakatane. Dennis is in Tauranga as are some others in here. Welcome to the fishroom too 8)
  3. Know anyone with an account at an electrical wholesalers?
  4. Pol's babies are growing...
  5. They allow the coolerbags as hand luggage too. I have also transported axolotls in an ice cream container on a plane.
  6. I only use an airpump if it is attached to a box or under gravel filter. They are useful in higher temperatures as the warmer the water the less oxygen. A lot of people like bubbles and bubble walls in their tanks but these are for aesthetics only, not necessary.
  7. I too was wondering where you had got to Chris. Welcome back.
  8. Carry on hand luggage or they go in the hold and you have no control over things in there (not that you have much as a plane passnger but you know what I mean ). MAF don't come into it as it is an internal domestic flight. A little water, lots of air, double bagged with oxygen. They are happiest travelling lying flat I was told. Carry them in one of those cooler bags. Temperature shouldn't be a problem at this time of year anyway. Keep them with you rather than courier them.

Never thought I would see the day but...I agree with Shae!
  10. I hope all these fish are still small as you have too many for the size of the tank. You have also mixed tropical and cold water fish which isn't recommended. I suggest you remove either the goldfishes, or the angels and bristlenose. The goldfish will be OK for a while but will outgrow the tank eventually. As asked previously, is this tank heated? The tannins from the driftwood are harmless and the angels will actually like it. I believe charcoal in the filter will remove it more quickly. I would not add any more fish to the tank.
  11. I can't find the paper the number was written on
  12. The Feb AW usually comes out in the first week of the month but my brand new, still under warranty, printer developed a major fault and had to be packed up and sent to Auckland for repair. My apologies but you will have to wait another couple of weeks or so. I am very hopeful it will still be February 2005 when it is delivered.
  13. Anchor a lettuce leaf to the bottom (wedge it under a rock) overnight and remove it in the morning. It should be covered in snails. Repeat until snails are gone.
  14. Good for you kylefish! 8)

    Can Loaches climb?

My bristlenose fry were always getting into the AquaClear.
  16. Numbers vary greatly and some may have been eaten. The majority just may be well camouflaged If the fry are moving around the tank they will be at least a week old, if not 2. Don't worry about trying to catch them as there will be more...
  17. Packed in rounded corner plastic bags, 1/4 water and 3/4 oxygen carried in polystyrene box with lid. Few fish per bag. If cichlids, or stroppy fish, one fish per bag. Make sure bags are tight fitting in the box and not able to move around. Newspaper scrunched up is good and added insulation. If you are worried about temperature (unlikely to be a problem, except for overheating, this time of year) fill a plastic fizz bottle with hot water and wrap it in a towel to pack in the box with the bags.
  18. Sounds like what staplez mentioned a few posts up 8)
  19. I have heard of someone who had one of those auto things at the other end of the room with no problems. I know I spray flies everywhere in the room except the end with the tank. If the tank has a good lid and the filter runs from the cupboard underneath I would hope it would be OK. Fly spray never bothered my budgie but I never sprayed near him either.
  20. I seem to remember Shae saying he was being allowed to build his fishroom in the end of his dad's garage so no building permit required if this is so. I too am wondering about lack of turning room. Chim's point re ply rather than gib is also valid. I would be using polystyrene for the walls for insulation. I have seen a number of fishrooms using this and it works well for temperature control. Don't forget to leave enough room above the tanks for net handles (or bend handles to fit) and possibly fluoro light strips. When trying to catch fish it is easier when you can see what you are doing rather than rely on a single ceiling light behind you casting shadow.
  21. Clean it well using warm water and salt. Rinse well then store in the garage. If you don't clean it first, it will be very hard to clean later when you decide to use it.
  22. My 4ft tanks sit on 25mm thick polystyrene and my smaller tanks sit on 20mm. I would have thought 10mm for a 6ft was pretty useless. Use your 40mm.
  23. They aren't called clowns for nothing
  24. My paddling pool doesn't have frames either, just straight sides. Would be ideal to soak big bits of driftwood unless your big bit of driftwood is longer than 6ft.

Fish do not only grow to the size of the tank!! None of them!! Their growth will slow but they do keep growing.
