    Hello everyone

We have an annual tank and pond competition every February. As our club has members all over the place (including quite a few in Ashburton) we decided to divide the competition into 2 places so they could enter it as well. This worked well. Check out our club album http://photobucket.com/albums/v490/Marlbaquariumclub/

    Hi!

Welcome to the fishroom. We don't bite (much)

    Baby Jaguars

    Nothing so destructive either!!
  4. Yes Shelley there is a club in Timaru but they are no longer affiliated with the FNZAS so you would not get those advantages. Joining them though would be very helpful to you I am sure. Ring your local Citizens' Advice Bureau for contact details. Tell the Timaru club you were told about them by us on this site 8) There is a club in ChCh and another in Dunedin. The only other South Island club is in Blenheim. We 3 are FNZAS affiliated.

    Hello everyone

Hi and welcome. You will learn a lot here. Pity we didn't know about you when we were down your way judging our tank and pond competition. You could have joined us and learned heaps and got good ideas.
  6. We are adding a sump as we like the idea of the extra water volume and increased low maintenance filtration. We're working on the problems
  7. I am sure Gary was unwell before being sucked up the filter. That would have been a consequence of his illness or death, the filter would not have done it if we was well and alive as they don't have that much suck.
  8. Neat pics. Thanks for sharing
  9. Well done Rob! You will have to get the breeding coordinator in to count them soon

    Hi :)

Hi and welcome. Yes, tell us what tanks you are setting up. Pics too are good!

    Arrow crab

Red eared sliders are already banned and have been for a few years. You are allowed to keep and breed them though, just not import any more.

    Baby African!!

I only have one baby mystic but if, when I get my bigger tank set up, they produce more I will keep you in mind!
  13. I received a registration form today. Here are the cost details several of you were asking about. Please remember, this conference is for FNZAS members only! Costs per person... Registration: $50.00 Bus & train trip, beer tasting, Tawhiti Museum (great place!): $15.00 Dinner Saturday night: $22.50 Dinner Sunday night: $22.50 Accommodation: Two venues. Forrestal Lodge clean and comfy but rooms not large. Railway Hotel very basic with single and twin rooms available. Both have places to make your own breakfasts (cereals, bread, spreads etc provided by Taranaki). You may also, at your own cost, order a breakfast or eat at the Inglewood Club nearby. Lodge: $30.00 per night Hotel: $15.00 per night There will be a cabaret on Saturday night, an interesting guest speaker before the AGM and a train trip on Sunday with lots to do. Accommodation will be at a premium as the British Lions are in town that weekend so you must send in a registration form before April 20th to ensure your bed. Registration forms have been sent to all club secretaries so call yours for a copy. Sounds like Mitch and the team have been very busy! Looking forward to it!! PS. The dinners are optional (so is the trip for that matter ) but you learn a lot and meet great people at the dinners. You may also arrange your own accommodation if you prefer.
  14. A reminder to all clubs that Remits must be sent to Hazel Goodin before March 14th 2005. She has changed address too. It is now 3a Fenton St. Te Puke. She asked me to post this information here. Letters have gone to all clubs as well.
  15. Cross your legs Adele!!!

    Baby African!!

All my yellows are bright yellow with black fins! At least one of them has to be female though

    Baby African!!

My baby is now about 2cm long and looks like this... Isn't he/she cute?
  18. What a hard decision to make! Best of luck to you all. Are your parents going to take a well earned retirement? What are you going to do?
  19. If it is only a 40 litre then I would get rid of the barbs and leave the black moor by itself.
  20. Thanks for all the replies. They have taken the filter and we will see how it goes. Should be good.
  21. If you have the space, add more barbs. They are a shoaling fish and prefer to be in groups of 6 or more. When in larger groups they are so busy seeing to their own pecking order they leave other fish alone.

    Greetings

Obviously there is nothing else to do in Wainuiomata  Welcome to the fishroom Matt.
  23. It was more the safety factor. Having piles of rocks in it (being for the Malawis) we figured it wouldn't matter if they accidentally toppled onto ply but could crack glass. Less chance of stress fractures in an earthquake too. This tank will be set up in our computer room and there are usually 8 or 9 computers, printers, scanners ect sitting on the floor around the tank. If it leaked we would lose a lot of stuff. Also easier to drill holes in
  24. Just got the quote for a 6ft plywood & fibreglassed tank with 10mm toughened glass front with a 4ft ply and fibreglassed sump tank underneath (with some glass in the front so I can see how the filter is going). Glass lids under a 100% recycled rimu lid and stand, top quality 2 pot polyurethane sprayed finish 30% gloss. The stand will have removable cupboard doors for ease of access when required. $2,835.00
