  1. They aren't called clowns for nothing
  2. My paddling pool doesn't have frames either, just straight sides. Would be ideal to soak big bits of driftwood unless your big bit of driftwood is longer than 6ft.

    plec query

Fish do not only grow to the size of the tank!! None of them!! Their growth will slow but they do keep growing.

    Fried Male Jewel

Hope he survives Dawn. It is amazing how far some fish can jump!
  5. For every 20 or 30 pics you will be lucky to get 1 or 2 keepers  That's the beauty of digital, just delete 'em.
  6. Love the analogy JMemonic  Can you not drop a little at both ends of the tank? Might give the others a chance.
  7. Someone else will know more about meds than me as I never use them but it is my understanding clown loaches are very sensitive to most meds and they should not be used. Raising the temperature and adding extra aeration to the tank should help.

    gravel

What is the pH of the tank the gravel is in? If it is around 7.0 then it shouldn't be a problem.
  9. Well they were there cos I saw them!!

    Baby African!!

Either I have a Speedy Gonzales baby or there is 2 of them! Perhaps even more. Anyone any idea how old they are? They are about 1cm.
  11. Oh dear. A not unheard-of occurrence unfortunately.

    gravel

If this isn't a marine tank I would advise against white gravel. White goes green very quickly as it gets a nice coating of algae. The fish much prefer dark gravel for camouflage and will never show their true colours against a white substrate. They will be pale as they try to blend in.

    Baby African!!

I just glanced in the Malawi tank and saw a tiny little baby!!! Judging from the colour, I would hazard a guess at it being a Labidochrimis caeruleus  Can only see one. Hope it survives. Have no way to catch it among the rocks and nowhere else to put it so survival of the fittest. Perhaps it is the only survivor from quite a few. The fish were certainly showing courting behaviour and all hell kept breaking out with much splashing but I never noticed anyone holding. The fry is about 1cm long.

Depends on the paint. I have often spray painted polystyrene. As far as I remember I just used the cans from the warehouse.
  15. Very nice pics and tanks. That Fighter is a gorgeous blue. When I first saw the upsidedown cat I thought it was a snail grinning at the camera. Come to think of it, I STILL think it looks like a snail grinning at the camera.
  16. Yeah, very unswamp-like Can she tuck that filter further into the corner so it is hidden behind the plant there?
  17. We can't help you with cost as we do not live in your country. Live plants are preferable. Less trouble with algae.
  18. Hi Emma and welcome. Quite a few of gather most evenings in the chat room around 9pm. Pop in some time.
  19. It is a widely held opinion JMemonic. Dyed fish often die early too.
  20. I have travelled with fish. As long as you do regular partial water changes and don't feed them they should cope. I would open the bag each night. Sometimes I have taken one of those plastic Critter Keepers (you know with the coloured grill lids?) so when we stopped I could put the fish in this and get them out of the bag for a while (sort of thinking along the lines of 'more surface area will help the oxygen levels'). I also had a small pump to aerate them overnight. If you know your water supply is good then I would carry a couple of 3 litre plastic bottles of water to use in the water changes since you don't know what the water will be at different places. By the time you get home they will be in the same tank water as your tanks. Are you passing back through the same way you went up? You could ask the store to hold them for you and pick them up on the way back. Temp shouldn't be a problem at that time of year. Overheating would be a bigger worry if they are left in a locked vehicle in a car park. Make sure they are in a chilly bin or cooler bag.
  21. Ooh I can see him now too. Before even copying and pasting the url got me a Page Not Found It was dyed blue?
  22. I hate seeing huge fish like this kept in tanks anyway

    raising my ph

If the coral has worked then stick with it. Some people use shells or crushed bird grit.
  24. I would wonder if the tetras aren't getting to him then. Can you separate him from the rest? They only attack when you aren't looking
