  1. How long has he been in the new tank with his new buddies? Is it possible he is being hassled by one of his 'mates'?
  2. Who's had himself a handy little Christmas then! Looking good.
  3. Depends on the plant and how much light the room gets as to whether you use any light at all but you certainly don't need uv. I use plain white fluoros (get the short economy type fluoros from the supermarket)

    Hi from Napier

Welcome to the fishroom Bruce. You will have to join the Hawkes Bay Aquarium Society! You might be interested to know you are the second Bruce from Napier in here The other one owns Deco City Pets.

  6. Many build their own or get a joiner to make wooded ones or an engineering company for steel ones.

    hello!

Welcome Glen. Taranaki has an active aquarium club too so I suggest you join. Clubs can be a great source of cheap tanks, fish, plants etc usually.
  9. Since you have posted here guppyover2 I removed your other post from the Fun section. I would think the angels would find the fins too tempting but as I have not kept Bettas, it may pay to wait until someone who has answers you.
  10. My brother in law has a pond with a pipe directly into the storm water system for easy cleaning. He thought he had been careful the other day but was just in time to see 2 goldfish head down the pipe. "Oh well," he thought, "that's that." A couple of days later he wondered what had happened to the fishes so wandered down the road and looked down the storm water grill in the gutter. There he saw the 2 fish swimming around! So he fished them out (no pun intended) and took them back to the pond

    Rock query???

Schist is fine. I assume mica schist is too. The only rock to really cause problems here is limestone but in an African cichlid tank it would be beneficial.
  17. You also have to remember quite a few of the plants aren't available in NZ. Lots of information in the book and very clear photos. Basic well laid out pages. I just found the codes list!
  18. Try rearranging the decor of the whole tank. The originals consider it their territory and are protecting it from the newcomer. If you move things around they will have to re-establish territory and can all do it together.
  19. What sort of local native fish do they have? That would be the best bet - and free if they can catch them.

  21. Guppies are very easy to breed. In fact, they are also known as the millions fish because they breed faster than rabbits. If you wish to keep as many of the fry as possible you need to separate mum from fry or she will eat them (as will all the other tank inhabitants). If they are in a well planted tank with plenty of places to hide, you can leave them to reproduce happily all together. Remember, you will soon run out of space if you keep all the fry all the time as they can drop anywhere from a few to a few hundred every 4 - 5 weeks
  22. I have always found turkey basters in the supermarket or places like Briscoes. Easy to find at this time of year 8)
