  1. I find if I feed mine by dropping the pellets along the front of the tank they will come out and feed if I stay very still. The moment you move, even slightly, they're off.
  2. "...so my next tank might be a while away" Yeah right!
  3. Multiple Tank Syndrome is a well known problem among fishkeepers. It has no cure. It refers to when a single aquarium is no longer enough and the fish keeper finds he/she must buy "just one more"
  4. You can arrive whatever time you like but you will miss the first part of the AGM (Quelle Horreur! ). Not a problem, uless you are your club's delegate. Some clubs have a guest speaker first so the AGM often does not start until 10am. I don't know what, if anything, is planned for Monday but usually it is for people to travel home (some of us have to travel a fair distance and catch ferries, planes etc). Sometimes it has been arranged to tour host members' homes to view their tanks. A lot of that sort of thing is often organised privately at conference, not planned beforehand. Host clubs often do not offer timetables as they want the activities to be a surprise but usually Friday is time for everyone to meet and greet plus register and get their information packs (which tell you more about what to expect) and other goodies. Often raffles are run throughout the evening too. Saturday is usually reserved for the AGM itself and Sunday is for fun activities organised by the host club. Having said all that, perhaps someone from the host club may be able to offer a little more specific info
  5. They do tend to hide when possible, or blend in so well you don't see them when they are right in front of you! Mine only come out when I feed them so that is when I take the opportunity to count them and check for trouble.
  6. Well, I'm not a local but I can tell you these ones; Napier: Animalz - Taradale Rd Deco City Pets - Civic Court, 21 Station St Hastings: Aqua Fever - Palmers Garden Centre, 1308 Pakowhai Rd
  7. You can never have too many sausage rolls - particularly when the event is being attended by teenage lads

    Hello~

    Welcome Stan
  9. Angels may do this for several spawns until they get it right. They may also always eat them so try to add a bit of slate or something for them to hopefully spawn on next time then remove the eggs and raise them without the parents. Just because you have 2 angels and one has laid eggs, doesn't necessarily mean you have a pair. It may be 2 females. :-?
  10. I don't think bladderwort is a noxious plant is it? I think you are thinking of hornwort?
  11. If the substrate still smells bad, it would be a good idea to siphon again. Make sure you get under the driftwood and ornaments etc.
  12. Hard to tell without a pic. Is the eye cloudy as well? Has possibly damaged it.

    test kit

Handiest are pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
  14. Yes, I think the "dying overnight" is a clue too. Not necessarily a nocturnal predator either. I get all by driftwood from the beach, it would never occur to me to BUY it  I assume the substrate was all thoroughly washed when you set the tank up again after removing the UGF?
  15. No your substrate should not smell bad when you siphon it. May indicate you have been over feeding and stuff is rotting which would explain the cloudy water too.
  16. Give them whatever you want them to eat. When they are hungry enough they will eat anything
  17. Make sure you have way more females than males too, to spread the harrassment
  18. Will check you both when I get home tonight. Sorry Carla, didn't read the sig  Be aware, if you joined late last year, or this year, you will probably not be capitated by the club until now (after the club AGM) so your first magazine will not be until August.

    Hello hello!

If you have a local Woodworkers' Guild or club they may have someone who could help too. Or, if you want metal, any engineering firm ought to be able to do it.
  20. Plecs will do this all the time. It is normal

    Dying guppies

We had a similar problem. Bought one guppy and wiped out the rest of the tank. The new guppy had a bacteria that the others had no immunity to and it killed them all
  22. PM me your name and address Carla and I will check if you are on my list. What club did you join?
  23. I believe mine is marble and purchased cheaply at Briscoes.

    Hi all

Some of us are used to having people worship at our feet (either that or my socks smelled worse than I thought)
  25. The shorter, chunkier types of goldfish are notorious for swim bladder problems as their intestines get all squashed up in their shortened bodies so they find it harder to digest foods.
