  1. Doesn't appear to be harmful
  2. As I said, I don't do anything except hose it down and clean out the crevices.
  3. I checked too although I was sure you were correct and the magazine was wrong
  4. Many thanks Layton. Hmm Herpolita is the spelling used in the magazine I am using as a reference.
  5. You do not put 2 red tailed sharks in a tank together - unless it is a very large tank (6ft+). The smaller one will be killed.
  6. Test the ammonia etc levels now and go from there I think. I have never tried a fishless cycle but they are all the rage in the UK and cycling with fish is very much frowned upon.
  7. Assuming you are not feeding fry, and the tank is mature, I leave mine up to 2 weeks.
  8. I get all mine from Hokitika beach. It has wonderful waterlogged rata and rimu washed down from the rivers. All I do is give it a squirt with the hose and scrub out the holes and add it to the tank.
  9. There are no such thing as cold water guppies! All it means is that guppies can cope with cooler temperatures (down to 15 - 18C). This does not make them cold water fish, despite often being sold as such
  10. Well done for taking the fish and attempting to cure it. Sounds like you are doing the right thing and good luck. Keep us posted.
  11. Yes you can post pics if you upload them into an online site first (like Photobucket). Keep them small though please (640 x 480 or less and under 128kb) I have heard of others with this white slime in new set-ups and it seems to disappear as the tank matures. Wipe it off in the meantime.
  12. Use pure ammonia or prawns. Have a look here... http://www.tropicaltankforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8326
  13. So have letters announcing this gone out to all clubs?
  14. Just doing an article and need to check (as I know nothing about marines) whether the following can be found in aquariums in NZ: Sun corals (Tubastrea aurea) Heliofungia sp Fungia sp Goniopora sp Herpolita limax (slipper coral) Cynaria lacrymalis (elephant's eye coral) Thanks
  15. I think most suggest over 3cm.
  16. Fish release growth hormones into the water and having them in too small a tank, even though the fish itself is small, may stunt their growth. Hiding places should give them security.

    Is this weird?

Slight improvement on a bowl though as better surface area.

    Is this weird?

Depends on what size it is and what you put in it. Very limited I would think.
  19. Sounds like bullying to me. Probably someone after lights-out (BGK?). Would explain the clown loach whitespot too if water parameters are good. Lots of plants and provide more caves. All those fish will need to be moved anyway as they grow too big for a 3ft.
  20. Smuggle them in. They won't notice once the fish are in the tank will they?
  21. If longer than 10 - 14 days I put doses in a daily pill container then get house sitter to empty dose into tank on alternate days. Also hide all other fish food.
  22. How could you forget plantgeek? Curt's site is the best for plants I reckon
  23. The get together is Sunday evening 27th May wilson, at Loopy's place.
