  1. Why don't you just re-silicone it to the bit where it has come away? Assuming it is at the top of the tank and above the water line you won't need to empty any water out of it.
  2. Remember to wear something below the lil' blu 'at as well Alan!
  3. I have a group of BNs and more males than females. All live very happily. Yes, a male BN can have more than one breeding mate.
  4. No, they will need feeding. Got a friend or neighbour who can feed them? Even if they do it every 2nd or 3rd day only.
  5. Changes in colour usually relate to stress but then the fish goes pale, not black. The only reference I can find is a tumour pinching the neural pathways which control skin colouration. If there is also swelling behind the operculum the same book suggests a problem with the thyroid and that adding iodine to the water for several weeks will help.
  6. I don't feed my fish when away for up to 10 days. My tank is very mature, is lightly stocked and heavily planted. A couple of days before I go I make sure the tank gets a water change and the filter is cleaned (though not too much). NEVER be tempted to overfeed just before you leave. This is a recipe for disaster. Feed the fish as usual. Live foods are even better as they will not drop to the bottom and remain uneaten. If your tank is not mature and you have big fish they will need feeding. When we were away a month, I went and bought a pill divider from the $2 Shop and put the daily amount required in each compartment and the house sitters fed the fish. Hide all other fish food!
  7. The plants in the pond haven't actually grown much. Hopefully they will take off next spring. The plants around the pond have been growing well and the climbers are making their way up the trellis. The water has gone quite green but I haven't done anything about that yet as I want to see what happens to it over winter. If it doesn't clear I will try barley straw in it next spring. The fish have survived and are often seen basking in the sun. There are plenty of fry too. The waterfall has still got a leak and we are waiting for the landscapers to come and fix it. They thought they had but it still has a problem, although not as bad as before so whatever they did they are on the right track. We only just tried it recently, so have just contacted them. I don't want you to think we have been waiting all this time for them to come.
  8. It doesn't look much different to the last pic, except it is greener Will try and remember to take another in the morning as it is a bit dark at the moment.
  9. Is this white something fluffy? A pic would help. If it is fluffy it is a secondary fungus infection, possibly due to an injury.

    New Fish

Hi and welcome from me too

    Hi!

    Welcome back
  12. Not at all (unless you mean club sub. I can't remember if you have paid this year as it is due now . If you haven't paid this year's club sub then please do so - to our club, not the FNZAS treasurer). The levy is paid for by the club, not directly by individuals. Some clubs have raffles, or get advertising in the YB (as per p12 of the 2006-07 YB) to pay for it and others incorporate it in the subs.
  13. This is $25 and is paid by each club. It helps towards the cost of printing the Year Books.
  14. The other guppies (including mum) will also eat the fry. Best bet is lots of fine leaved floating plant for the fry to hide in then catch them and put them in a net. You could net mum but it may stress her and cause her to abort and she would eat the fry herself anyway  She will drop fry every 4 - 6 weeks anyway so you won't have a shortage  Feed them little bits and often, say 3 - 4x daily if you are home to do so. Crush flake food for them.
  15. How sweet 8) We have booked the ferry. Must remember to send in reg.

    hey everyone

I said they left the FNZAS a couple of years ago. After checking, I realised it was actually 6 years ago  I will PM you both the names of the last club officers. They ought to be able to tell you if the club is still running.

    hey everyone

There used to be a fish club in Timaru. Is it no longer running? They pulled out of the FNZAS a couple of years ago.

    Whats this?

May have damaged itself. Just keep it in very clean water and it should heal by itself. All sorts of things you wouldn't normally see and worry about show up on light coloured fish like that.
  19. The zucchini should be fine but perhaps they are having trouble digesting it for some reason. They usually like it. Mine don't but love cucumber and shelled peas. Hopefully the female will lose that tum again. I had one that blew up - literally. What a mess. Not nice for her either I am sure. I have no idea what was wrong with her but she swelled up fast and before I could decide what to do she exploded.
  20. They will grow at different rates.
  21. Other ways I have seen is to bank it up behind driftwood (which is what I have done) or othres have actually siliconed sheets of glass or perspex to the base or sides of the tank to act as retaining walls.
  22. They are not called seasonal fish because they die yearly!
  23. Is being half crazy the same as being a half wit? Looking forward to the pics.
