  1. Dunedin will be having a club tank parade Saturday 10th October. ALL WELCOME. This event will finish with a BYO BBQ. Also included will be a pet shop crawl stopping at three local shops. Starts 9.30am at 4 Nairn St, Mosgiel
  2. We built our pond so the hedgehogs could get out. Our smaller round pond is different though and, despite adding a 'step' they still drown in it
  3. Liquifry is liquid fry food. It comes in small containers from your local fish shop. There are two different types, one for egg layers and one for live bearers.
  4. Good to hear Sue. The Christchurch Totally Tanked did similar at a local Pet Expo and did very well, garnering a lot of interest. :bounce: If I can help with full colour A4 posters for your display then let me know. I am sure you will find plenty of people in the area to help. 8)
  5. I have just Googled times between our start and your meeting. It takes longer than I thought so we won't reach you until at least 1pm as it is 5 hours travel according to Mrs Google and she seems to be pretty accurate. Go ahead and eat your lunch and we will bring our own.
  6. I so agree. Personally I much prefer darker gravel.
  7. I had similar small clumps of that algae in summer when temps were hottest. It disappears over winter. It was in the still bits. I just scooped out as much as I could (to get rid of the unsightly factor).
  8. I am sure you are right but we ran ours skimmerless for 2 years with no problems whatsoever and just ran an AquaClear filter. The only death we had was the octopus (who escaped). The only reason we dismantled it was we could not keep it cold enough over summer without a chiller.

    Aliens of the Deep

Then you have not been listening to Amateur Radio Hams
  10. I hope you don't end up having a Bitter Betta Battle
  11. Very expensive brine shrimp too I imagine.
  12. They are not allowed. If someone complains, or points them out, perhaps they are destroyed then. :-?
  13. It is not just a case of whether they can survive if released. It is also what pathogens/diseases they bring in with them too.

    Drift Wood

I agree with flatfish. The dark, heavy stuff is usually already waterlogged. I have not yet had one that leached (lucky me). The wood I collected was also right near the waterline and obviously still wet.
  15. Don't now about your regular meeting but Grant and I wil be passing through ChCh Sunday 11th Oct and wondered if any members wished to meet up with us in the afternoon. We will be returning from Dunedin's Tank and Pond Parade so should reach ChCh between 12 and 2pm I imagine.
  16. If you have other stuff insured you can often get a good discount from the same insurer. Ring around and ask. It is amazing how much they can vary.
  17. Frequent water changes would be better I feel.

    Drift Wood

All my driftwood was gathered from the beach. I just gave it a bit of a scrub, rinsed it, then added it to the tank. Never had a problem (so far)
  19. All were acting fine as far as we could see. None died, some were breeding so I take that as a good sign. All I meant was you can have a successful cold water marine rockpool tank without adding extra equipment. A chiller is a must though.
  20. If you add your location to your profile chelle321 (click on user control panel at top right of screen then 'profile') someone may be able to give you a specific supplier to try. We will be heading to Dunedin in a couple of weeks. Are you along the route? Happy to pick up and deliver some if you find it cheaper in ChCh
  21. Radio said 25 dead in Samoa and the number will rise dramatically as many more are missing.
  22. Only higher tides in northland I would imagine. One radio station we were listening to said 2 villages had already been wiped out in Samoa somewhere and many have headed for higher ground

    Hi From Southland

Welcome to the fishroom. Where in Southland are you? Perhaps if you added it to your profile (click on the user control panel at the top right of the page and then your profile) someone nearby may have just the fish you are looking for
