It varies from person to person. When I need to isolate a fish I use one of those plastic Critter Keepers. They float well and I don't need to clip them down as they jam up under the lid and don't go far. If you have a small glass tank then set it up separately. The advantage of a floating container is you do not need another heater. The same tank can be used for both an isolation tank and breeding tank, although not at the same time of course. You would also have to clean it very well after treating sick fish in it. Others set up a small tank as required, using water from the main tank. It helps to run a small internal filter in your main tank so it is always there to use in another tank if required. Once finished with in a treatment tank the filter needs to be sterilised before putting back in the main tank.

I am here in Chch while a devastated Grant is at home alone after accidentally killing Pepper They had had a lovely day at work down the Sounds. When they get home, Grant usually gets out, goes around to the passenger side and opens that door to get Pepper and the cage (he is usually on it, not in it). Today when they arrived home, he got out of the car and just as he shut his door, Pepper made a leap for his shoulder and was crushed as the door shut It would be bad enough if the bird had died of an illness or something but to be responsible for the death is hard to take. When he rang to tell me he could hardly speak about it he was so upset.

This varies greatly depending on age and size of the fish. Anything from 1 to 101 :roll:

I am the total opposite. My fish get fed once or twice a week (more if kids visit, wanting to feed the fish). I don't know how old the food is but it is pretty old :oops: They get flake and bottom feeder pellets. Occasionally I catch mozzie larvae.

Why not? It won't matter so much if someone falls in as they will already be wet :lol:

You can also cut a small slit in the wood then carefully thread some fine roots through it. It will then anchor on its own without fiddly tying.

I have found they breed if they get regular water changes. I don't think temperature bothers them. In their native tropical homes temperatures are 20 - 24C and I have read of a man who kept them in temperatures ranging from 4C in winter up to 34C in summer.

They are cold water fish but will cope with 25C. I have a selection here ready to give to southern man when we meet at conference. Thanks Doug! All are doing very well. Lost one female for no reason I could see, about a week after we got home, but all the rest are going great guns. You still want some navarre? I forgot you had asked :oops: I could give southern man a few less
