  1. Boiling the water is unneccessary and added work.
  2. But it revived the game. It would help if people thought before they offered a new word bearing in mind another has to be created from theirs. mastodon
  3. You want it to look something like this...
  4. I guess the old preserving jars aren't big enough. You can get them real cheap at recycling places.
  5. Without the sponges you may find your water clarity not as good as you would like. I only clean my filters once a year or so. I can get a 2L container full of black gunk out of the baskets
  6. Perhaps I ought not say that Kelly is dressed as one of the 3 ho's of Christmas (ho, ho, ho)
  7. If she is working to pay for her shopping habit she should be pleased to work stat days with the extra pay. Have a family "Christmas Day" on another day. If you are not religious it shouldn't matter on what day you celebrate. Grant has been called out (and you get no warning) every Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years and, come to think of it, pretty much every weekend this year, for the past few years now. This year we are going to his sister's at Okiwi Bay - no cell phone coverage

    I'm New ^,,^

Hi and welcome. With that number and type of fish, I assume you are planning to buy a bigger tank in the near future?
  9. I love it too. It was Kelly's idea but not everyone gets the connotations attached
  10. Since when has Santa worn a halo? :-?
  11. Clubs Marlborough has been running a Quiz Night every Wednesday night over the school terms. Winner for the term receives $500 for the school of their choice. WE WON!!!!!! :bounce: :happy2: :nilly: :happy1: Not only did we win tonight's quiz by a large margin but we were overall term winners. We almost won the jackpot as well but lost the tie breaker  Here are the best dressed of our team, The Foxy Morons... me, Kelly (daughter) and Grant
  12. It isn' just fish size you need to consider, but how they swim. Tiger barbs zip about so like space.
  13. Looks like a good day was had by all. Thanks for sharing.

    Ammonia

I cycled my Malawi tank with goldfish then threw them out in the pond.
  15. This is true snowman  The advantage with the canisters (internal and external) is the built-in motor. I often set up small tanks with UGFs but would not use them on tanks over 100L as I don't like the wider uplifts used, nor the noise from the bigger pumps and bubbles.

    Ammonia

The water doesn't have much bacteria in it, you need to pinch some of his filter media
  17. Having used UGFs for many years, before canisters came along, I never had to clean one out.
  18. I have some pearl gouramis that are 6 years old now. Perhaps dwarf gouramis will last half as long being half the size?

    G'day!

I am sure the Malawi lovers here would appreciate hearing about a Malawi specialist forum. Go for it Kevin.

    G'day!

I saw that and am wondering if these fish are legal in NZ. Anyone know? I can't find them on the biosecurity list.
  21. I am not sure if these fish are legal in NZ so not sure if we can amend any of your information.
  22. I have seen such glass strips before but know nothing about them personally. They would work though.
