  1. Every thing you need to know is on their website http://www.nzblood.co.nz/ It is quick and easy and everyone is very nice to you and thank you a lot for donating. I am a blood donor but have had to stand down for 6 months after my surgery. You can sit or lie down, whichever is most comfortable for you. They give you nice drinks and biscuits afterwards.
  2. That right hand end reminds me of triffids
  3. It isn't a torpedo barb as their red stripe is down the middle. People like sunken ships and planes but you want wood - how about an ark?
  4. Blanket weed seems to come and go in my pond throughout the seasons. I don't think plants can ever out-compete it. As to the spindly oxygen weed, a bit of soil might help. Mine are planted in big planter containers with slits on all sides and the bottom. I am probably going to have to remove some soon as it has taken over the pond!
  5. There is at least one more certificate coming. How about more entries before anyone says which they prefer?
  6. So did Lily the Pink. I wonder if she could cure blanket weed? 8)
  7. I should hope so! We were horrified to discover rickets was so common in Auckland as we thought it was a third world disease. As Auckland is not that lacking in sunshine, and maori and Pacific Islanders are not known for keeping children out of the sun, why were so many suffering from rickets? Do they have higher breast feeding rates? From memory, it was the rickets that caused the heart problems in these children.
  8. When our son was in Greenlane for heart surgery, 30 years ago, there were a number of other children with heart problems who also had rickets. We were told rickets was a common problem among the maori and Pacific Island population, due to poor diet.
  9. Here is an interesting fact sheet on how much barley straw to use, and when it is most efficacious. http://ohioline.osu.edu/a-fact/0012.html
  10. Does he hear cop sirens a lot where you live? :tears: You see a lot of photos of people's cats with a bird on its head, cats and dogs living in harmony etc. Everyone knows that is not always something you can do so I am sure anyone seeing the lizard on the cat will also know that is not something you can always do without dire consequences for one of the animals, or a lot of specialised training. Keep the personal remarks out of this please. I think you have all given your opinions and it is time to leave it alone.
  11. I forgot you were down there. You mean fish take precedence over an AGM???? :slfg: I will note this as a formal apology.
  12. Nothing wrong with your baking Joe. I hope we will be able to confirm that at the meeting tomorrow?
  13. I have little interest in cooking shows or the Masterchef series but I have started to watch the kids on Aussie junior Masterchef. I am blown away by their efforts and results! What a great bunch of kids. So mature and brilliant cooks!

That explains why the last of those gouramis I bought from you died a couple of years ago then 8)
  15. The most common comment from people, on seeing common BN fry is, "Oh, look at the little white tips on their tails. They look like little flags!"
  16. If you want to lower your pH then keep the driftwood in there, although I have never found driftwood to make much difference to the pH.
  17. I am not alone then!
  18. Actually the hair colour threw me as I did not recognise her. I thought it was a pic of the other woman
  19. The tetras will need their own breeding tank and special conditions re pH, spawning material, lighting etc. Kribs and convicts usually just need water. If you are serious about breeding you need a separate tank for the breeding pair otherwise the eggs and/or fry get eaten and, as said, you need to consider what you will do with the fry.
