  1. wow creepy and cool at the same time :cophot: :nfs: , I mean, snakes, I mean, crocs
  2. This happened to me with pygmies, tried a couple of different scapes before switching to dwarf loaches. I have 3 loxozonus cories who are not very sociable unless there is food out, but the peppers I had were almost always out and about.
  3. do the neighbours ever look over the fence? :sml2:
  4. welcome newbie we'd love some snakey pics to drool over (except alan haha)
  5. I don't recommend 26 degrees but I've never tried it either. 20-22 is what I always did, copying off Barrie who was breeding them at the time. You could have a hunt about in the killifish information on google and see what others have done.
  6. 2 males and 1 female would be irritating for the female, but 1 on 1 should be ok if there is somewhere to hide. I never had a female bullied to the point of death, my healthy ones would either find places to hide away from the male, or chase the male away themselves. When I first had killies there was a layer of riccia on the top of the water, the female would burrow into and hide right at the top under the lights, where I would feed her like a little pet :sml2:
  7. if she's still alive, just turn the heater off and then put it back on again when it's back down near the 20 degree end A couple of others have had killies from shops die in the same way, I don't think it's a fault of yours, they are usually very hardy fish.
  8. I didn't think Alan's comments were off track at all, he was commenting about the filter media, and quantifying it with personal experience. Your comments are reading as though you didn't want to hear anything other than comments that agree with and clarify your own point of view.
  9. We've spent half the day discussing it. It turns out that there was another part of the ending in the credits which we missed but either way it wasn't my kind of movie. It seems that there were serious philosophical points being made but I was rather more caught up in the visual elements and the script.
  10. New product out in this range.... have resurrected my research thread in the name of science. Limited Edition Moro Gold Toffee Crunch. Same wrapper as the Moro Gold Caramel version. There are crunchy toffee bits inside the fondant in the middle, and the caramel is more toffeey than the usual caramel. All in all it makes for a toffee fudgey chewy bar, not much chocolatey flavour. I liked it but I missed the chocolatey flavour. It's worth a try, all you chocoaholics
  11. You could try adding salt to the water and bringing the temperature down to about 21/22. The aphysemion killies don't need tropical temps quite so warm. The salt ratio I used to use was 1 tsp per 4 litres of water. Also make sure she has somewhere to hide from the male or move him out for a while just in case he is stressing her out. Clean up any food laying on the bottom too, when she's hungry she'll probably come to the front of the tank or go to the top when you appear.
  12. Yep, pretty much :lar: that movie The Grey was awful, rather like a B grade horror movie without the horror. Lots of wolves snarling and howling, and the occasional glowing eye or tooth in the dark :rolfl: I don't recommend, unless you think of it as a comedy.
  13. A movie I enjoyed recently was Hot Rod, a not very new comedy. It's quirky funny but not quite as quirky as Napoleon Dynamite, and really quite funny. Also am enjoying the new series #)($ my dad says. I like the blunt, non-PC comments William Shatner's character makes. Tonight we're watching the movie 'The Grey' with Liam Neeson. I tend to take his characters as a bit of a joke as he always seems to over act or be over serious, and in this one I heard that he fights wolves with glass strapped to his knuckles hahaha. So I'll be watching it, expecting to laugh a bit where I'm not supposed to.
  14. Not worth the risk, I haven't tried it for that same reason.
  15. have a look through the search function and look up 'Barrie' as author. He posted copiously on which killies should be kept together (or not) to minimise cross breeding. Killifish breeders generally don't recommend cross breeding strains like the cichlid keepers do. Am not sure why, probably because they are rare enough as it is enough without creating hybrids and losing the original lines. I think the orange ones are termed as 'gold'.
  16. Ti Point Reptile Park at Leigh, Warkworth sometimes sells tortoises.

    Pool clean

I had one of those in my original catch of bugs for the trough and they ate everything smaller than themselves. I ended up putting them into the fish tank to continue the circle of life....

  19. the spots look like eggs but they could also be faults in the photo here's a good photo of what they look like, though I never had this many at once. They're quite robust and a little sticky. after a little while you can spot which will hatch and with good eyes or a magnifying glass you can see little specks where the eyes are http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Minnows,%20 ... 0Plant.htm
  20. Fresh killifish eggs from the australe look like little clear-goldenish pearls about 1mm in size. They usually appear in a small random group or dotted about. When I used a spawning mop I used to squeeze the water out of the mop, pull apart the fibres like looking for nits in hair and then move the eggs to a floating container within the tank, with a drop of meth blue. If you don't remove the eggs the adults likely won't eat them but the fry lay about half alive for a couple of days so if there isn't any cover in the tank they could easily get eaten. You generally get more fry if you save the eggs. Some people keep the eggs, put them on damp peat and then hatch them together so they are the same age but I couldn't be bothered doing that. If the eggs look white then after a while you'll see they get fuzzy, that's the unfertilised ones rotting away. They will spawn wherever they like but if you limit their choices it's easier for you to find the eggs. You can seperate the males and females but might find that they all sulk and don't eat much. Having a trio makes it easier on the female, they get chased by the males like guppies. If you have a look through the killiefish section there's heaps more information and tried methods noted.
  21. Is it something like the sand is getting stirred up slightly by the current? I find it does that when settling, but if your current is good then it might do it normally too.
