  1. They're doing it with the lights on! They are probably laying, just a few eggs at a time. When I had them, the male used to go around afterwards fussing over them, I was never sure if he was just grooming or trying to eat them. They stick pretty well to the glass but the harlequins and co will probably eat any that are easy to get to.
  2. it's the wiggle dance :gigl: Very cute. Check the glass and plants when they've finished, you might find some eggs.
  3. Very odd. You could try turning the lights off and shining a torch on the fish, see if you can see a sort of gold dust on them, I believe that is the easiest way to spot velvet. At this point without any evidence of sickness other than fish dying, I wouldn't want to suggest a treatment. Someone else may have a better idea. I've had weird illnesses with my minifish before and after various treatments in the end I took the tank down and sterilised what I could and started again, but that's a pretty drastic thing to do, last resort. It could have been a batch of fish that were stressed in transit and didn't recover before the mystery ailment set in. sorry I can't be of more help :tears:
  4. What is your water change schedule? Was it a brand new tank 8 weeks ago, with brand new filter medium? When did all the fish get added?
  5. Update time: Today I rearranged the rock pile to something obviously more organised and less natural, but I’m happy with it once more. The fish are now playing in the current in the middle where there is now a lot of swimming room. The crypts weren’t liking being shaded out either, so they should do better again now.
  6. Otos usually do OK by themselves but if you get more than one then you'll find them hanging out near each other. When I had a pair one used to follow the other about, was cute.
  7. There is a person on this forum called 'me' who knows a lot about tortoises, and breeds too I think.
  8. Is this resource limit the same reason why clicking 'View your posts' doesn't bring up my posts in the speedy fashion that it used to? View new posts and unread posts happens at the same speed but it seems to have trouble finding my posts quickly. It's been like this for about 2 or 3 weeks.
  9. I can almost picture myself with a small snake, about 2-3cm diameter at most. Those seem to be a manageable size to me.
  10. Adrienne, I think your hair would look like that if you drove around on your motorbike without a helmet - 'windswept' :lar:
  11. that's a really good photo. I like all the detail we can see of his 'hairstyle'
  12. no worries just keep an eye on everyone and tell us if something new happens. You might lose a few more to stress, little fish are very susceptible to it.
  13. If you press Edit on the first post you can correct the title in there too :gigl:
  14. I learnt a good trick from KrazyGeoff - scoop the eggs into a very fine net and suspend it in the tank water. They get to stay in the water they are used to and you can see when they hatch. I tried putting the eggs into a breeding box but even peppered cory fry got through the gaps into the tank so best to let them live in the net for a week or so if possible.
  15. I assume you're dosing according to the directions, and not adding more? My feeling is that dosing when you don't know what the cause is can be as bad as not treating, or worse. Imagine if you have a headache and someone gives you a laxative or a stomach tonic :-? , you'd probably feel worse and it would take your energy away from getting better. Do a big water change and see how everyone is in the morning. If you have a spare tank you could put the ones with ailments in there and observe them for a while, otherwise it may be cheaper and less stressful on the healthy fish just to keep clean water and let the sick ones die, or put them to sleep with clove oil. I only say cheaper if it's a factor for you, it has been for me. I've lost quite a few little fish over my time keeping fish and the best thing is to keep clean water and not to worry too much if you don't know what the cause is. Lesions are often due to infighting or are a symptom of another illness, once a fish gets sick they can be susceptible to fungus infections.
  16. How about this tactic : 'Darling, if I buy you (enter gift of her wildest dreams), will you buy me (enter thing you want)' There has to be a pay off :lar:
  17. Mine was ok with an internal filter, the current was directed against the back of the tank so the movement was reduced.
  18. I seem to have a slow leak in my wallet. The other day there was $23 in there, now only $12.
  19. Formalin is pretty heavy going on critters. It's is really only a good idea if you know what it is you're killing, and it's a long shot if they aren't external parasites. What makes you or the LFS think it's external parasites? If it's just the external damage then my opinion is not to treat yet. The problem might go away now that the angels are elsewhere, the little fish can recover in a more peaceful environment, so with clean water and regular changes they could come right themselves. The white stuff could be fungus from the injuries.
