  4. The heating in your house shouldn' be doing that and if the room is heating up it should mean that the heater turns off so it doesn't heat the tank up anymore than it needs to, the 4 degree temperature changes is definitely not good for any fish snd probably doing more damage to them if the temp were to drop below 20 deg (which it shouldn't if you have heating) I think it would be a good idea to invest in a new heater
  5. The blue/black ones sound cool :bounce: :bounce: can't wait for pics :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

  19. If you were to use a clay based substrate you would want some finer sand then gravel over top with your waterfall idea unless you want a brown tinged tank  just the same idea as a layer of daltons underneath (which I think has some kind of clay in it)

  22. All of the loaches from the balitoridae family (hill stream loaches) live in fastwater streams (around 3 meters per sec) and high O2 levels, Also many cyprinids (minnows, carp, barbs ect) (A very streamlined fish Sewellia lineolata) Hill stream loaches off wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillstream_loach
  23. :bounce: YAY :bounce: Woke up this morning and noticed around 9ish that one lemon oranda is getting chase around by several other goldfish, went to have a look (in the rain) and the one that is getting chased is a female and many of the ones doing the chasing are male. So caught her and stuck her in a 45l bin with the pond water running though it and have found a nice big lemon male (with his pimples ) and some branches of a tree(one with fine leaves, err I forgot the name...) Last year when they bred it was when the filter had been off for a few months and the pond had a nice green tinge to it, and when we finally realised they had bred it was when there were 2cm+ babies swimming around  So what do I feed them?? and how long will they take to hatch when they lay eggs.... (any help appreciated ) Then again I thought it was a bit early though for them too be breeding....
  24. The algae is probably doing more damage than a 3 day blackout would, and unless you have high light plants it shouldn't affect them too much
  25. It's a small crustacean that feeds on algae in the wild, and fish seem to enjoy eating it (also called water fleas for their jerky movements) Thats what they look like except waaay smaller
