  1. Anyone know where I can get tubing for a CF1200? I want to change my outlet so a tube runs down into the tank (like the original walking stick which I no longer have) and then a corner at the bottom so I can have the spray bar sitting horizontally at the end of the tank near the floor... Its so the current blows across the bottom of the tank to the other end where the intake will be. This is for when decide to change from sand. Dont want to cause a constant sand storm! I need straight bits of tubing (probably easy to find) and very small corner pieces... Failing that ill just buy a powerhead
  2. Ive kept a shoal of tiger barbs with the following fish ok Giant Plakat Blue acara Salvini Convicts Juve Siamese Tiger Juve oscar Red tailed labeo Jurupari Only ever lost one, that was because he was smaller than a neon  Dont forget silver dollars too, they can work.
  3. Tiger barbs will be fine... so long as you get about 10 of them they mind there own business and their behaviour as a shoal makes good viewing. Otherwise, giant danios and congo tetras are larger, and available in most shops.
  4. For a 5 ft id have: A Tiger Oscar Borneo Tiger Eartheater (jurupari, brasiliensis, surinemsis etc..) Ive got that in a 4ft and its great, they could do with a 5ft when they grow. A borneo tiger would be a great addition. I also prefer eartheaters over plecs as they do a better job at cleaning up food. No point having an algae eater that poos heaps if you dont have algae problems!
  5. Hey twinkles you still want my giant? Hes beating up my Oscar at the moment. lol.
  6. I know a guy. hes awesome. Ill pm his details.
  7. In that case no its not a bad thing. Theyll both exercise their fins etc.. in their displays to each other, and he'll get good practice for blowing nests. If they want to breed you should let them you wont need to separate the fry from each other straight away, then you can sell them.
  8. As long as you dont keep them too long its fine. Once they are aware of each others precence, have had a good amount of flaring at each other, the male should then blow his nest and the female should quieten a bit, thats the time to put them together.
  9. I let him go in some shrubbery across the road. Beautiful creature though. I want a lizard now lol.
  10. Heres a pic. Anyone have a permit and want him? otherwise will let him go. we're about 2km from the coast in onehunga.
  11. I just found a skink in my office. Identified as a northern brown or shore skink. Both endangered. Anyone keep skinks? what are their requirements? do they grow? Hes in a little home made from a cardboard box right now. Will quite happily sit on my hand whilst im walking around too! On that note, does anyone want him? I dont want a reptile setup just yet, lol.
  12. Add a hang on filter too, an aquaone clearview 800 will take your filtration to a rated 2000lph, and is better than the canister for creating surface movement, as well as easier, but more frequent maintenance. Instead of adding bottom fish id add a shoal of 20 tetras or something
  13. Will do. He has no interest in the pellets I have. I need to get some Hikario gold sinkers asap
  14. Hes an IT. the 2 bars on the tail are the same thickness
  15. Cheers, Both pics are from the net. cant get photo as he's hiding still! Should I feed him twice a day, or as hes a predator give him bigger meals, but less frequently?
  16. Anyone else have one? I made the fish shop feed him too see if he was stable. Gobbled a whole cube of bloodworms up in seconds! their mouths are huge! Hes pretty timid so got him in a small tank by himself to fatten him up so he can go in with the Oscar Cant wait for him to grow! he looks like this now: and will grow to look like this:
  17. My Oscar just got Ich. Problem is, sand substate gets stained by methylyne blue. I have the green white spot cure (which works) but scared to use it as It will stain my sand with a light hue of radioactive green
  18. I dont need to feed my bottom feeder as hes awesome. He goes around eating sand and cleaning it Good ol eartheaters
  19. Full tank piccies! Fish are happy as. That digi thermometer is there temporarily just so I can see how stable the temp stays at. The breeder containers will be gone soon too hopefully.
  20. All fish are in and its planted. Looks a million bucks. 2000lph of filtration heheh I let my betta out into it and he couldnt swim against it. Lol. Waiting for the fish to settle etc.. but heres a full tank shot prior to planting, then some random fish shots after its planted. Full tank. Was still looking pretty drab at that point. Horace the Blue Acara Sharkishki the Red Tailed Labeo Oscar the Oscar. hes so small and cute! Ricky the Giant Betta Im still working on getting pics of the Salvini. Simply stunning fish when she wants to come out and socialise. More pics in a few days

    2nd filter ideas

Id remove the hood to run a canister. If its an aquaone, then just remove the filter, leaving the front part of the hood with the lights.

CF1200 aswell If its a bigger tank, add a HOB filter. My new 4ft is running a CF1200 Canister, with an Aquaone clearview 800 which is actually a really good filter. Cheap too and creates good oxygen exchange.
  23. Jees mate, move to auckland, I know a room that is coming free soon in a fish friendly house in Birkenhead...
