  1. Not sure about platinum, looks pretty blue to me his finnage goes a nice bright turquoise in light. Will get some good pics of him as soon as hes out of captivity for good - should be this week when the oscar gets his tank setup. at the moment the bettta is a bit bigger than the biggest full grown male ive had, and this guys only a few months old! cant wait until hes full grown at 4'' 8)
  2. Thought about it when I got the stand home and measured it... ohh 150cm! but its just a bit too short for a 5ft... 4x1.5x1.5ft is the largest tank ill have in this house
  3. Sand is actually really nice. quite dense and heavy. Ive just got to remember to let it all settle before I turn on filters... I dont think id like the sound of an impeller grinding sand
  4. Just did a waterchange and shuffled it around a bit. added a plantpot. Lol. for the purpose of the pics I let the fighter out... he was chasing the oscar round and round. and check out the baby golden angels. hard to get a decent pic though. 3 left from a whole spawn
  5. thanks. Yes I had a jewel who'd swim through it once... Cheers Sam, yeah I know it needs a focal point, but this is an Oscar tank However I decorate, hes going to move it all around once hes big enough  Trust me on this one, once waters in and there a bit of green, it will look stunning
  6. Just picked it up yesterday, my custom 4ft 250L (65g) tank. It has tinted sides, back and bottom, with a lightly smoked front panel, lids cut short for feeding, filters etc... Black silicon looks so good too! Got a cheap 30W light unit, looks and works well. Filtration will be an Aquaone Clearview 800, and my current CF1200 canister providing 2000lph (9 times filtration) 300W heater should manage ok. Bought 25kg of pool filter sand and spent a good part of my evening washing it last night. The tank is still curing and wont be able to have water in for a few days yet. Should be ok that ive put sand in it already? Aquascaping is done. Lots of little hidy holes but still providing good swimming areas up top and in front. I dont really have issues with aggression, so line of sight breakers etc arent terribly important here. Plants - the back will have about 6 big vallis providing a nice backdrop, swaying in the current. Will put a few potted javaferns in the front area and see if they get dug up or not. Fish list: 1 x 3'' red tailed shark 10 x tiger barbs 1 x 3'' female Salvini 1 x 2'' male convict 1 x 2'' Tiger Oscar 1 x 4'' blue acara The stocking will be fine for about a year, once the oscar reaches 8''+ might start getting a bit crowded. He got beaten up when he went in the 3ft with the rest of the fish, so thinking of adding him to the new tank first and letting him have a few days before the rest are added? Feedback appreciated
  7. Heres my Nano. 20L. I moved the plants to the sides to provide room as its a bit full with fish at the moment. Got 3 baby angels growing out in one container, and the Giant betta is in the other container as my Oscar is using it as a hospital tank at the moment. Hard to photo when just dosed with methyline blue lol. I will have some plants for you once my 250 is setup. Maybe a few java ferns, some Hygro and an amazon sword. Will PM you when im certain.
  8. Yep just a bare tank. when they are ready to spawn, pop them in so they can do their thing, leave them 1 day, then move them back to their main tank.
  9. Get a small 20L and a discus breeding cone. They lay so many more eggs on them! Id let them spawn in the same manner as they just did maybe 3 more times before moving them into another tank purely for spawning.
  10. that tank is too small for a pair of nics alone, let alone a pair of sajica's too! the footprint is very very small. I had 2 bolivian rams claim the entire bottom of mine. thats enough for 1 nic
  11. Ill let you know. Im setting up a new 250L hopefully this weekend, So will see what I can use.
  12. Will do. I need to change my plants though. I just threw all my plants from my 130L into there, so have some hairgrass (i hate it) an amazon sword, some hygros and a java fern. Will probably switch the javafern for a crypt and get some pygmy swords or something for the front. Found my BN on the floor this morning obviously didnt like my plants either. Or the Oscar...
  13. And also you can stock more of them a 4ft tank can only house 3-4 small americans like firemouths etc.
  14. or you could get one of these and work out how much power each tank is using http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-ph ... 227047.htm
  15. on one of the US forums they were calculating how much it takes to run a tank. Based on their figures It costs like $5 to run a 150L tank per month?
  16. So are africans better to watch than CAs and aggressive SA's?
  17. In that case id increase the bioload quicker so get a larger amount of bacteria forming in a shorter space of time Valid point about the bottles too.
  18. Doesnt work with fine grit gravel though? The poo just stays on top until the filter or gravel vac gets it
  19. Lets not forget that bacteria also grows on things in the tank - rocks, wood etc.. I wash all my sponges under taps, but only ever clean noodles and bioballs in the canister water, then remove them and clean the canister. Im sure my fish will be fine. Was getting really worried going to bed, but just before I fell asleep decided to check the power and it was working again, so was able to switch everything back on
  20. i just setup my 20L for my giant betta. Will post pics as soon as its got lighting
  21. Ill have to ask next time im in there. Its just up the road from me 8)
  22. ...with the power turned off? Our power went so low last night that two important things happened: 1) Could not watch outrageous fortune 2) Not enough power to run any of my filters. My canister was turned off for about 3 hours. Will all my lovely bacteria be dead? (they wouldve been in still water the whole time, around 25C) cheers
