  1. Move the BN out, so its just the angels. Put a sponge prefilter over your intake, stick a breeding cone in there and youll have a tank full of little angels in no time at all
  2. I wouldnt add anymore angels. I had a third angel in with my pair, and he got picked on my both. They will fight a bit, and you will see the odd ruffled scale. Ive seen the male beaten the hell out of the female quite badly to the point of wanting to separate, then ill turn around and the female will be beating up the male even harder. A few days later they lay eggs
  3. The algae you get on plants is brown beard algae I think, and is apparently quite difficult to eradicate. I have it on my javaferns. I just leave it...

I just got hold of mine wet, and gave it a haircut Its when you separate it and it becomes rather delicate that hairs end up all in the tank, stuck to the glass in hard to reach places..
  5. Along with wysteria AND water sprite... :bounce:
  6. I predict: The left side will go nuts The right side will take off well but not quite as fast and the centre and front will take the longest
  7. Close! the answer is 5! The only way I can feed his tankmates is to stuff him full first so he buggers off!

Whoa when you suggested I thin out my hairgrass, I didnt think you meant that much... Now I can see how it would spread quicker
  9. My Oscar does this everyday. Stuffs his mouth full, then retreats to a cave to munch on his days takings  Guess how many sticks he has in there!
  10. Day two, looking good. Did a 50% water change so I could get in and do some adjustments (now that I could actually see what im doing!) Split the hairgrass more, so total of 5, hopefully create a nice backdrop for the dwarf sag carpet, spread the vals out, trimmed and planted together the red macaranda, gave the crypts and sword a bit more room, and have a bundle of water sprite, indian fern and wysteria on the left hand side for the 'jungle' area. Also got two baby javaferns from my other tank and rubber banded them to a rock. Putting a submersible powerhead into the bucket of water to carefully pump water back in worked wonders, didnt cloud up anymore!
  11. Ah. yes best bet would be a proper stand then, and unless its on a concrete floor down have one with 4 or 6 legs, youd want to spread that load across as many floor joists as you can. Alternatively a nice framework stand can be mad of 4x2 or even 4x1 wood that can be turned into a cabinet, but unless you have a friend that can do it, will cost big bucks
  12. Could try HFF, they have a supplier. Think I was quoted about $500 for a black metal frame for a 4ft. I bought a beautiful sideboard that was perfect size off trademe though for $80. I also got a solid (very very) cabinet that would fit 4x2x2 tank perfectly for $20
  13. Question as above. Im not going to start dosing ferts for 3 weeks so plants can establish, does the same go for Co2 or should I start dosing it now? I know Co2 is related to ferts and light as a whole equilibrium balance thing - more ferts means need more light means needs more carbon etc.. but just wondering about initial stages... Either way Ive got to raise the KH a few degrees first, theres 0 in my tap water... last time I used Co2 the ph went Doooooown until I started buffering the water to around 3Deg KH. Thanks
  14. So with the whole PMDD thing, its a trace element fert, similar to standard flourish? Im thinking on a 24L tank, flourish is still ok value so not worth going down the PMDD route?
  15. The wussyness I found is what makes them interesting - they just look so cute when they try to be aggressive... even I go awwwwwww Though I did have a bolivian fully bulldoze a cory side on was quite funny, pushed it half way across the tank
  16. No they are the biggest wooses around even when breeding.

Looking good Sam. Black backrounds are the only way to go!
  18. Yeah was just thinking that. But now im terrified of moving anything as It doesnt take much to cloud it up! The center area (dwarf sags, hairgrass foreground, flanked by crypts with a sword behind) will be my main stay, the rest will probably get changed as it develops. Ive decided it definately needs a java fern or two in there for that deep lucious green mmm... Will pick up a borelli apisto as the centre piece fish on the weekend (saw them at HFF, stunning!)
  19. Rawr I have plants! I thought it fruitless to do internet research to end up with a list of plants I wanted, as then Id have to source them, most of which wouldnt be able to get no doubt. So the plan was to go to HFF albany and take my pics from what they had. The list: Macaranda stems (for a bit of red) Water sprite Wysteria Dwarf sag Hairgrass An argentian sword (centerpiece) Vals some stems that are like hygro but leafier crypts I trimmed a lot of the stems, as well as the hairgrass which I split into two. My method of growing is chaos. Plant the plants how they might look nice, and just let chaos reign and see what happens! I also got a sunlight bulb too, heaps better. Will take more pics when the water clears up, not going to do anymore water changes to get rid of it.
  20. Yeah didnt want to go with 2 tubes, will look at 10000k or a 6500k. 15000k lighting makes taking photos really difficult
  21. Oh and regarding the lighting, do I need to change the 15000k bulb for something lower in the spectrum... I actually dont like the colour it gives either, want maybe a cool white.
  22. The clay was simply horrid.. I shiver at the thought of it now... Im the type of person who changes stuff around a lot until im happy - and when planting is concerned, and the substrate dissolves when in contact with water, the tank would stay cloudy for a long long long time! But yay plant shopping today!
  23. The stocking and scaping has changed slightly, means I should take some new pics soon (once all the breeding containers are gone, holding guppies until the nano is setup) At the moment: Tiger oscar (about 4'' now) Indonesian Tiger Datnioid (about 3.75'') Jurupari (about 3.5'') Male BN (about 4'') Delhezi Polypterid (4.5'') and 12 tigers barbs now! Filtration has changed, switched the canister out for an Aquaclear 110 (higher turnover, less power usage, easier to maintain) and am looking for another one to replace the aquaone clearview 800.
  24. So $82 (ouch) later and I have good substrate. A quick swirl with water in a bucket and chucked it in. Didnt cloud much at all. I was concerned at the amount of air pockets remaining so ended up giving it a good stir up. 2 water changes later and its clearing up really fast. Got a black backround too. Any ideas on heater placement? It will only just fit vertically in the corner (but im lazy and dont want to turn the heater off every water change), I dont like diagonal placements either. The low horizontal is the best placement I came up with so far?
