Sand - do not turn any pump or filtration equipment on until the sand has settled - otherwise youll break your equipment pretty fast.
Most people use a fine-ish gravel (could use your brightwater if its about 2-4mm in pebble size) as the bottom layer, and then layer sand on top.
Sand also easily gets gasses trapped in it which need to be realised occaisionally.
I love my canister. Ill probably buy another one to replace the built in unit on my aquaone tank (they are pants)
but
I cannot figure out how to clean the damned tubes.
The rigid ones like the intake tube arent a problem. Its the flexible-rigid long tubes that are about a meter long.
They have a lot of gunk on the inside, and my filter itself never gets that dirty, so Need a way to clean them!
Any ideas/tips?
cheers
Try a red tail. All the benefits of a black, except smaller
I have one in my SA tank. doesnt bother anyone. Always on patrol. Always scavenging.
And his name is Sharkishki
Rams are cichlids - and hence territorial. They do not schoal.
They arent really aggressive, but will midly defend their territory from each other and other fish.
Ive had mine 'bulldoze' my corys - literally ram and push them from the side... lol
They wont even eat tetras. Let alone adult guppies. Fry will get eaten.
I support my local shops. Ill only look on tm for fish that the LFS doesnt have.
But fish arent even that expensive really? Equipment is the main expense...
No. but then Ive been having trouble with my plants for a while. They were getting plenty of carbon, but the water was stripped of nutrients and caused a ph crash.
Ill give it another go once I turn things around!
Im having similar problems with my two juvenile swords. Same with all my plants in my planted tank - my java fern has brown tips on the leaves, and my stargrass is growing really fast (almost at the top of my tall tank now) but the bottoms are all brown. I have twin tubes running 12hrs. Correctly dosing flourish and excel. Everything is all fine. I dont geddit.
However in my keyholes tank, its a tiny single tube, only on for a few mins a day, no fertilisers etc.. and my vals and java ferns are the healthiest plants Ive ever owned!
Box filters work ok. sponge filter works better.
There must be something in the air, My angels spawned again just last week, fry are free swimming today.
And I had a pair form out of my 5 keyholes and they spawned last night - they were only together for a week!
For restarting mine, all I do is put it back together, reattach the hoses, turn the power on, turn the hoses to on, and im away - and thats with emptying the 'bucket' to clean - though I always refill it.
Mine were pretty good, but the eggs always mysteriously disappeared by day 3...
Day 5 today
How do you clean a fry tank when they arent free swimming - or do I have to wait... there are a lot of dead fry that are started to get a bit of fungus on them... If I vaccuum Im gonna be sucking up live fry Otherwise im going to have to wait a few more days until they are free swimming, then net them and put them in a breeding trap so I can clean...
im just got a angel spawn thats on day 3 - wiggly fry tails.
Im wanting to take some nice photos during the growth, its is ok to use flash?
I know the eggs are light sensitive, hence the tank is not lit, and away from a window, but are they ok with light now?
cheers
Yeah looks good mate. Going with Limestone substate mixed with a lot of crushed oyster shell wouldve helped with the KH and PH nicely.
You could just throw everything outta the tank and stick an Oscar in there
thats very odd.
The only time ive encountered such a thing with a betta is when I tried keeping a baby convict with one... Suffice to say all of the poor bettas fins got a haircut.
