BBS will greatly increase your chances of keeping the fry alive. Last batch of angels I had, I couldntve looked after them better apart from I fed novotom and liquifry rather than bbs, I only have two angels left (young adults now)
  2. Oh and if you can grow them to about 5mm ill buy some off you
  3. I love Firemouths, shame they are much too wussy
  4. 18000k *yuk* I have an 18000k 2ft tube sitting around, its done about 5 hours of use...
  5. Are their two of them doing it with each other? I quite often see two almost lip locking, going round and round like a dog trying to catch its own tail
  6. Aquaone sell a blue scourer pad. Feels rougher than your average kitchen ones... yours should be fine.
  7. I want my Delhi to hurry up and grow Im currently starving mine so he actually comes out during the day. Only ever see him moving with the lights off. Heres my indo and del Hey Fruju what size tank is that?
  8. I cant remember the last time my tank had activity like this! The two that I think are females each have claimed half of my tank, with the line right down the middle, they have a cute stand-off confrontation about every 30 minutes  Ill have one or two for sale in a few weeks, I either want to keep just a female (for colour) or a pair if one forms.
  9. their all labelled as borellis, but none of them look like pictures when you google them. Just googled Steel blue, looks like they are:
  10. Id be tempted to get a pair of Apistogramma Borellis to breed, there seem to be a few around at the moment. Ive got a lone one, such a nice fish
  11. Maybe set it up as a multi purpose breeder - just a real basic barebottom setup with sponge filter and a heater. Then you can try and breed any small fish that you like - youd just need the extra bits pertaining to the habits of those fish (spawning mats, mops etc..) For fighters they are ok for a little while without separation, but eventually they will need separating by stacking that tank full of clear plastic bottles full of holes.
  12. Seeing all these pictures made me want one... Arrrgh I just bought 3. Lol. I wanted a female, but they werent sexable... They are really cute though
  13. Just make sure you do regular water changes, but in between allowing the meds to do a good job.
  14. The only way she wouldve burst is if for some reason she couldnt get the babies out, thus babies got bigger than her belly could handle
  15. Yep I just went and asked a pool place (that I saw from the motorway lol), to wash it, simply fill half a bucket, and run it under a tap whilst youve got your hands in churning the sand around, then carefully empty the water, and repeat 3 more times, then when it comes to adding water to the tank there will be next to no mess! It maybe alters the ph a bit, previous tanks (without sand) have been 6.8-7.0, and this tank sits between 7.0 and 7.2, and it may not even be the sand causing that, even so, its minimal. I hope this helps
  16. Due to catfish only use half dose. I have used this stuff (even on half doses) successfully everytime. I tend to dose on the 3rd day as directed, then carry out a large water change on day 5.

Ill say one thing, go to a swimming pool supply store and get some pool filter sand, it looks great, the grain size is perfect, its not messy and bugger all gets in the filters. A sack of maybe 20kg cost a mere $20 and was enough for my 250L tank. If you are having plants youd need two bags though. I recommend plants that have little light requirements. a 30W light would illuminated your tank and fish nicely, but with most plants, you would need to step that up to at least 130w which is mega mega $ 200-300w heater will suffice, and a filter under $200 will be fine too - id recommend either an Aquaclear110 (1800lph, hang on filter, easy to clean, huge capacitiy) or a canister like a cf1200. Check out my thread from when I was setting up my 4ft. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=40456
  18. might flag this idea. I cant see it being able to absorb that many nitrates in that capacity filter... Will just use it as a normal filter, so 2 AC110s on a 250L will give me 3686lph, thats a whopping 14.7x turnover
  19. Very good The 405s lph is around 1200? That gives you 7x turnover. Thats more than adequate for your stocking. IF you didnt have a hood Id suggest getting a HOB rated at around 500lph to be your mechanical workhorse - to pickup most of the gunk out of your tank, and be easily cleaned weekly thus far extending the frequency you have to clean the canister, which would be your main bio filter
  20. There are a lot of cars for that money. I picked up a delsol in good condition for 2500. A mazda familia (great little car) for 1000 aswell.
  21. Mmm was thinking a lot simpler. The AC110 has a huge amount of room in it compared to other hang on filters, I could fit a load of bread in there! Some crushed coral in the bottom for buffering and just some java moss. Im just not sure how effective would be, a LOT of java moss could grow in there!
  22. Ive bred angels in a 20L, Barebottom, spongefilter, No light. Breeding cone. Real easy to clean, a day or two after the eggs are layed you can move them back to the community (or when they start eating healthy eggs) and raise the fry from there
  23. As a motorcyclist, a learner in a Hilux scares me.
  24. Im toying with the idea of making a freshwater Refugium for nutrient export (ie. help reduce Nitrates) I scored another Aquaclear 110 Hang on filter for a mere $11.50 and for that price ill quite happily chop it up. With some minor modifications they make very good small refugiums, mainly used in reef tanks. Im wondering has anyone here done one for a freshwater tank? what did you put in it? caluerpa seems to be the most popular algae to use, but ive never seen algae for sale (lol), alternatively would putting a bunch of java moss in and letting it take over be effective at all for nitrate reduction? I have a 9w clip on light which is perfect and would go with a smaller impeller to reduce the monstrous 1800lph flow! Should I even bother? Its on a 250L tank that will have a decent sized bioload in the future, would it have an impact at all? I have no plants except 3 java ferns in this tank.
  25. This is true, but the better surface you can give them, the more eggs. Mine would lay 5 times as many eggs on a breeding cone as they would on an intake pipe
