  1. its on the outside too, so the felt side of the cleaner If I stand 1m away I cant see them, but any closer and its whoa!!! Im going to try some toothpaste. Ah well, this tank is only temporary until I next move house so I can get a 4x2x2
  2. I bought a magnet cleaner the other day. Never been a fan of them and always used an algae scouring pad once a week, but doing a quick daily scim of the glass without getting my hands wet was appealing and decided to give it a go. So this evening ive noticed long scratches on both sides of my 4ft. They are very visible, but cannot feel them. I made sure they arent just a mark which I could scrap off, definately scratches. Is there a way to polish them out easily? or is my tank buggered? (im a stickler for perfection) checked the cleaner itself, clean as, nothing caught in it that would cause the scrathes... Its one of those green roundish cleaners that animates are selling at the moment.

    Tiny white worms?

I scrubbed the glass to hopefully get them floating in the water column, and did a vaccum/10% WC, and threw in a bio chem zorb. sorted. 8)

    Tiny white worms?

Im power feeding my little monsters so that makes sense... though they dont actually eat everytime I feed them... So how is planaria created though? where does it come from, it cant just come from thin air? thanks guys
  5. Ive just noticed a load of tiny worm things all over my glass... they are about 2mm long, very thin, and MOVE! Not sure what they are... Ive always been disease free except for the odd bit of white spot, wondering if perhaps these are the ich parasites, and ive never noticed the parasites themselves before except now as my tank is totally bare... Im treating with wonder tonic at half dose (due to BN and birchirs) and will WC on friday and see how it goes. Impossible to get a picture unfortunately. Any thoughts?
  6. Dollars get BIG. and although 8'' isnt huge, when its 8'' high as well as 8'' long, its a big fish! they are cool as though, Id love it if they stayed around the 3'' mark.
  7. Isnt the idea of insurance to cover damage caused by accidents - regardless of whether something was faulty or not? - otherwise how else do accidents happen other than acts of god (and those arent covered) If you ABS system on your car failed, causing you to go smashing into about 10 vehicles as your brakes werent working, the insurance would pay out - and thats down to 'faulty goods' surely?
  8. Nope Greg makes them himself in a little industrial unit. He used to be a glazier. Doesnt take long to make a tank when you know what you are doing, its just cutting and sticking glass together. Ive had 3 custom tanks made by him now, see my nano tank thread. He made my 4ft, and just did an identical 4ft for a mate too. All very cheap, and the build quality is good.
  9. Thats because they quite often class cichlids by size, rather than specific species - ie. $15 is for a 'assorted small cichlids' and $25 is for 'assorted medium cichlids' so its just each stores interpretation of wether its small or medium.
  10. That is true, however, despite the best intentions of a fish shop - who probably wouldve said yep that Oscar needs a min 4ft tank, the customer can quite easily say he has a 4ft, but knows damn well he has a 2ft and 'oh it will fit, its tiny'
  11. Yeah I thought the same thing, the poly would just move surely? But yes, theres quite a lot on MFK, hence id be wary, unless the americans have psychopathic plecos?
  12. Put him in with a convict, a salvini, and a JD. Thatll make him chill
  13. A larger heater that is constantly on and off will wear out its bimetallic strip quicker causing it to get stuck on or off. A lower wattage heater that stays on more is much more healthy, less risk, and despite being on more, is probably using equal power over the course of a day to a larger wattage. hth
  14. Looks awesome now Id say get xray tetras, they look really really cool(if they are the coloured ones, yellows with blues) HFF have them on special, 5 for $11 or something. Vampire tetras would be cool if we could get them or discus tetras for that matter, silver dollars without getting the size of a dinner plate
  15. Its almost rimless 8) it only has about 15mm of bracing just on the ends, and i have the water level at absolute max (just have to be careful when moving in and out of the desk as water spills... did it twice today..)
  16. Big common plecos have been known to suck the slime coat off of birchirs causing them to die. From the amount ive read of peoples experiences, its seems to be about 50/50 of whether its happened or not. Personally risking a birchir for a pleco isnt worth it. If they are plecos that get to about 15cm max like bristlenoses, id say no worries. wheres David R when you need him, he'll know the definitive answer
  17. Yes im pretty happy with it Might step up on the ferts. Ive cut my photoperid down to 8 hours to help with the algae. The macaranda (im pretty sure it is) came from HFF albany, the new growth is coming through green though At the moment its stocked with an Apistogramma Eunotis, 6 keyhole cichlids, 2 Angels and an oto. Once the cichlids have grown out ill either move them or sell them, and get the most expensive prettiest betta I can find. Lol.
  18. Arrrgh you guys  Sinces it easier to just post them here than to pm TWO people, ill post them here. Water still cloudy... So, we have: > Shorter hairgrass right along the front, with dwarf sag in an equal row behind, all flanked by rock. > Wysteria, Indian fern and watersprite on the left with some red macaranda in the midst to break up the gree. > In the middle we have a big rock, right in front of the filter intake, flanked by vals swaying in the filters current. A bit of indian fern and wysteria to the right too. > Heater in the back right corner is surrounded by ambulia that will hide it nicely and some crypts either side. Then some random pics of my tigers hanging out together in the 4ft. Lol.
  19. Nah just one oto Ill wait for the water to clear after putting some more plants in (got some ambulia and even more dwarf sag) then ill maybe send you a pic

    OH DEAR!

Bugger Jim. So what type of damage does that amount of water do to a house? like your carpets and stuff?
  21. Evil laugh *muwhahahahah* My cute 25W heater wasnt cutting it. At full power it cant get the temp over 22C. Due to the extra length of the 55W I had to have a good think of where and how to put it, so I pulled EVERYTHING out of the tank except the sand. The result of my rescape is if I may say so, very very impressive. Its got more rockwork just for Sam. Ive gone with a centre point too, which I know is against the rules, but it looks good. I trimmed the hairgrass right down etc.. So im off out to get an Oto (I need one  ) and some plants to fill the right side as its bare The swords are going too, not gonna suit this tank at all. Ohh cant wait for it to start growing, and you guys arent going to see any pics for a week. Cue evil laugh again *muwhahaha*
  22. I shall Hopefully someone recognises me, I was in a few episodes on series 4 as an extra lol
