  1. You could just have a 55g for an Oscar on his own AND a planted tank :)
  2. Oh, its Fraser, not frasier by the way bro, widout the 'i', aye  - funny how everyone assumes its frasier tho or with a 'z' Do they have any dels in roskill Atm?
  3. I need glosso! Completely forgot about it when I was planning my tank. Looks like it will cover the bottom a lot better than hairgrass or sagittaria. Try ditching the Aquaclear filter and just run the eheim. Youll keep waaay more co2 in the water then. Im going to be doing the same with my HOB once I start on proper co2.
  4. Im sure they are fine. I probably had a tiny tiny granual of sand on one side that I couldnt even see. You just have to be oh so vigilant when using them!
  5. Id also like to point out that most avid motorcyclist own more than one bike as well as a car. I can only ride one bike at a time, so why should I pay $600x2? 2 bikes doesnt mean im twice as likely to need to claim acc  I also have private healthcare. Whats the point in public medical care when there is no care? Last time I got taken out by a car, I walked to the main desk at north shore hospital, covered in blood and barely able to walk, as well as concussed. Women at the desk gave me about 4 forms to fill in, and said 'someone may see you within two hours' and walked off. I edit admin walked out.
  6. Bugger frasier. I lost a del a few weeks ago. Sucks ay But mine committed suicide so i suppose its a bit different
  7. Feel free to go over to www.kiwibiker.co.nz and tell 10,000 bikers its a bad idea! I could give many legitimate reasons why its a bad idea, but I cant be bothered...
  8. I think the filter is the main advantage over the aquaones (where upgrading to a canister is absolutely essential)
  9. you mean the purge feature? Cheers for your insight. Will have a good look at both when I can. Ill be able to get them at almost wholesale price, so the pricetag on the eheims wouldnt hurt quite as bad. Might get one of the wee tiny eheim canisters for the nano too.
  10. Hes about 6''. just a wee bit bigger than my sen. Hes nice and active too
  11. how so? im intrigued. I know the 2075 isnt comparable directly (a 2080 would be though) FX5 has more capacity, higher flowrate and uses 3 times more power. Also due to the sheer amount of sponges in the FX5 leaves little room for other media. Flowrate isnt everything, with the eheim there is more bio media, greater dwell time, better quality, better features etc... Id like less power consumption as that way I can set up another tank without my old fella moaning about the power bill
  12. Yes just one ornate. tank is too small for when he grows aswell. Brightwater gravel always Much better than barebottom, and prefer it to sand also. Got two crypts and some anubias aswell for some subtle decor.
  13. This filter is top of my list. Anyone got one? what do you think? It will be for a 250L tank, and would want to use it on a 450L when I upgrade. Tank currently houses 2 juvenile Danioids and 3 small bichirs. Running 2 Aquaclear 110s at current. http://www.eheimasiapacific.com/prod_e_extfilter_pro3.html The other option (and similar price) is an FX5. Higher flow rate, but huge power consumption (50W) as compared to the eheim at a mere 16W. The aquaclears use 14W each.
  14. HFF Mt Roskill are now out of stock of Ornates 8) They also had 3 ATs left, a couple of really small albino sens, a tyre track eel, a pictus cat a clown knife and thats about it as far as monsters go. Will take some pics when the tank clears. The dats are uber stable now because of the gravel.
  15. I need some gravel. Barebottom just doesnt look right. if the fish were a lot bigger it would be fine, but at the moment no. then got a whole shopping list... Might pick up another dat or sen, or maybe even an ornate...
  16. Im going to my roskill today to pick up some stuff, will let you know this afternoon if there is anything that you might find of interest. I dont think you have the room for the juruparis- they need to be kept in groups, and need A LOT of open sandy swimming space, id wait until you get a bigger footprint tank Or get a group of smaller ones (4-5'') and grow them out (they are as slow growing as dats)
  17. I dont want to have to do regular maintanence... id rather leave as is if thats the case... bought a sander today so you could say im partly committed
  18. Nice! do they have any left? I wanted one! apparently they are the owners personal fish, and although id agreed a price with him, because he wasnt there went I went in, they wouldnt let me take one! I managed to persuade HFF mt roskill to let me have one for $40 when I bought my AT. Youll love the sens, very active bichirs. Large Dat is $180! I seriously thought about it...
  19. Okay, to prevent getting killed I wont paint it  Is this linseed oil stuff available from hardware stores?
  20. they all come in as borneo tigers, and the shops arent familiar with the different varieties so its kinda like a lucky dip.
  21. Im going to start prepping my big cabinent soon. Its nice solid oak, but its a bit rough looking at the moment, Was going to go simple and paint it black. As it will get the odd bit of water on it, what paint do I use? or do I just use wood compatible paint and go over the top with some polyurethane varnish or something?
  22. In my 65g I have a del, sen, AT and IT. Looking to get a 4x2x2 and add an ornate and maybe another dat
  23. Both hollywoods have polys for reasonable prices - but for juve's that are between 3-5''. Albino senegals ($45) Delhezis ($87) and a few ornates ($98) and the bird barn in henderson, the owner has a couple of bigger albino senegals (6-8'') for $60.
