  1. Cheers, whats really letting it down at the moment is the crypts, once they start taking off and bushing out and up it will look a whole lot better. Getting a lot of brown algae everywhere including on the sand which is a pain. I want to trim the hairgrass shorter too.
  2. Looks cool Id like to see you put somd edging on the unit to create more of a hood, and all some reflectors to maximise the light going into the tank rather than in the surrounding room
  3. Looking good, do you have the rockwork all siliconed together?
  4. Bio chem zorbs dont do anything for the nitrogen cycle (ammonia/nitrites/nitrates) they are chemical filtration for removing potentially harmful chemicals and tannis from driftwood (yellow water stain) After 8 months continous use you should probably bin it and replace it - give it a rinse, and if the particles are still brown then it cant even be recharged.
  5. I have done this Yes its a pain.
  6. What type of filter is it? Nearly all filters have a sponge, a sponge traps debris, poo etc.. before it can be broken down in the tank creating ammonia - the same thing happens if left in the filter too long, so youve probably got high ammonia too. You can clean you filter media as often as you like, as long as its not under tap water as its the chlorine that kills your bacteria. hope this helps
  7. So long as any filter cleaning is done in tank water (eg in a bucket of water taken out during a water change) then you wont lose bacteria. also with raising the temperature, there becomes less oxygen in the water (i think) so make sure you have good aeration.
  8. Yeah I was wondering how it took so long, my AL20 takes about 30 seconds to change the bulb
  9. UV filter wouldnt do anything. Immediately do a 50% water change (not less) then the next day do a 50% water change. Make sure your tank has got surface agitation, either from a good airstone or a filter. Do a full check on everything - temperature etc.., clean any gunk out of your filters while your at it too. And get your water tested. Only then can you start looking for the problem, and treating it. Golden rule when treating diseases - water change and aerate.
  10. Sheryl got shot. If you look at the angle the gun was pointing, they must think us all fools to think pasquale got shot - though would be good if she did, cant stand her character...
  11. What model is it? Is it one of the AL units, or one from a full tank system?
  12. Go with acrylic, you just need two long pieces to create a box in the corner of the tank, and silicone them in, then you can use a dremel or whatever if you didnt cut them the right height. Id be inclined to have a shelf a few inches from the top of the overflow box, enough to sit a decent sponge on for a prefilter
  13. Id do it with an overflow in the main tank - doesnt need to be big, then have the powerhead in the sump to return water - but id have the water returning from the top rather than the bottom.
  14. How much for the dats would you be looking at?
  15. But thats what Maliwis, Mbunas etc... are for isnt it? Feeders?
  16. My old Delhezi was eating Hikari sinking canivore, he could fit the whole thing in his mouth, was quite funny watching him chomp on it. My new Del doesnt seem interested in anything at the moment, but I only got him last week, so got another week of starving to do The Hikari sinking carnivore is great as its packed solid with protein, and birchirs can smell it a mile away.
  17. Update: Plants are growing well. Picked up a few more drawf sags, and they rest are spreading well, transplanted more of the hairgrass so that will get a good spread too - basically gone with a bigger foreground area. The argentinian sword I managed to split into two plants, and I ditched the hygrophilia polysperma. Picked up a 25W heater (its sooo cute) so it can stand vertical in the tank now which the 55w couldnt. My hairgrass is currently trimmed to about an inch in height? Is there any benefit to trimming it any shorter? ooh im shuddering at the mess of doing that... Will take some pics soon.
  18. Cool. say goodbye to a large portion of your life  Ive been playing over 2 years now, too long! Only tips I have are: You must have a premium account - makes mundane routine task much easy, and when you have 500+ villages it is simply impossible to play without it. Use scripts - I can help with these.
  19. OMG! Im Morcs on W7 on the .net server. I have a 7m account
  20. I have the brackets off my light from my 4ft tank (check out the pics) they could be somehow affixed to your light fixture? there mean to sit on the rim, so if your tank is gonna be rimless, theyd work great
  21. He now loves HSC Pellets I try and get him to have about 5 per day Hes not too shy these days, yes he spends most of his time in a cave, but when i 'ask' him too, he'll come right to the front of the tank, super stable and say hello. Im selling my Oscar as hes the only fish that the dat will shy away from. Also the tiger barbs too as they tend to play with his food as its sinking  He wasnt interested in the guppies, the oscar ate them all instead... David is correct, feeders have bugger-all nutritional value, Hikari sinking carnivore has HEAPS of protein, and doesnt carry diseases like feeder goldfish
  22. What are the dimensions? Mine was supposed to be rimless but he forgot... or maybe he thought i was being stoopid? who knows?

    Aquarium Stand

Yah 2x2 footprint is rather hard to find... unless you went for something bigger? There is a 2x2x2 tank for sale with a stand aswell?
  24. If you remove the bullied one, the aggressive one keeps his territory - hence same result when you reintroduce. Try removing the aggressive one for a day or two, that way he looses his territory. Its not fool proof though, as he may fight the weaker one to regain control... Ive never had trouble with females with males hth
