  1. everytime ive ran a sump dry (siphoning a system quicker than auto top up able to fill) which has been on a few occaisions, when theres been a fluval and jager in the same sump, fluval would break everytime, jager would be sweet as.
  2. and stay away from the fluval M series too. they seem to break if you so much as look at them. and ive heard of A LOT of them breaking, even when used in conjunction with jagers (that havent broken)
  3. generally give plants a month to establish themselves. this can involve appearing to die like mentioned. a lot of sources also suggest no ferts until they are established, but dont know the truth in this. I like the airstone at night idea, but that means your wasting co2... and unfortunately theres not really a way to regulate it to shut off or lower the feed at night... I just tell myself that all that extra co2 going into the water and being left unused at night gets used up during the day  could be true though?
  4. try irfanview. ive used it for years as a very general photo editor / cropper / viewer / saver.
  5. mitre 10 is your friend. i got change out of $10 for that amount too.
  6. dont like sand, nor do a lot of people. I use artifical grass, very easy to keep clean, not messy, no risk of impactation, and looks pretty good too. this stuff
  7. Very minor differences, gold suam is what you have, also known as the false GT. true GTs are seldom seen, ever in the states. Because of that, everyone refers to false GTs just as GTs anyway,
  8. Sweet. Itll be pretty spectacular if the GT and RT decide to lip lock when they are bigger
  9. Yes it would. much easier. just remove any filter media if any and give the pond a good stir up
  10. Bird barn has water dragons at the moment. and rainbow skinks yes you need a permit

    Morcs' Juwel

Update. re-done the tank. Juwel tanks are much better suited for nice pretty displays than aggressive cichlid tanks, especially when they kept digging up all my plants.. Added Co2 and replanted also. Hopefully it grows in as planned. Current stocking: 6 Angels 12 Columbian Tetras 1 L018 gold nugget pleco 1 redtail shark 1 blackline flying fox Plants random crypts Java fern Java moss Some other random moss Windelov Brasiliensis (going to try and get a little carpet going in the front right corner) Indian fern (going to have lots growing at the back right) Amazonica swords
  12. Nail on the head David. Im not saying aquaones are bad, on the contrary, the represent good value. But when expensive livestock etc.. is involved ill only buy the best, why skimp on something as important as filtration? And we know that the chances of an eheim still running in 10 years time are a fair bit greater than anything else on the market. I used to hate people whod bleat on about eheims, but having used a lot of their equipment, i am completely converted, and its hard to compare anything else to them - Notable mentions outside the external filter category have to be jager heaters, and the pickup range of internal filters.
  13. Stocking sounds good. could get some redtail cigar sharks and some ornate bichirs too.
  14. I was waiting for you to make those points. Firstly, the eheim stated flow rate is WITH media, whearas other brands up their figures by stating the flow rate without resistance. Secondly, I would say a 2213 is comparable to a CF1000 for filtration ability, flow rate isnt everthing, the media is superior, and there is ZERO bypass, whearas aquaones will have bypass.
  15. Didnt have any major issues, just making the point of build quality. The baskets with their O rings dont fit together well, prone to getting air stuck in the system too. As for power usage, yes its still negligible in $, but a 2213 uses 8w verses a CF1000 (comparable) uses 20w or more from memory.
  16. Once youve owned a decent filter like an FX5 or some of the ehiems, you see the flaws in the aquaones - but you get what you pay for i suppose. Just the build quality - down to things like the taps, connectors etc.., to the media, hosing, and they arent as energy efficient also. Flowrate isnt everything like a lot of people believe. I use my eheim purely as a bio filter, where a lower flow rate is much better, plus takes 5 minutes to clean, has good media, uses a mere 8w of power, and is going to run and run and run.
  17. Wish i had some photos knocking around of the new sumps used at animates, they are actually very very well designed.
  18. But not necessarily superior filtration
  19. He sold me his 2213 really cheap as he didnt need it at the time, a week later he has a filter break... bugger eh.
  20. I had a CF1200. it was reasonable. 2213 is better IMHO. CF clogs quicker, the media is average, noisier, gets air inside quite easily, longer to clean etc.. etc.. However at the wholesale price might be worth a punt
  21. Val will definately do well. It gets its co2 differently to other plants (cant remember how though), and straight val on its own en masse can quite easily give you the jungle effect - especially when it grows so long that it starts blocking up the surface - which the discus will love.
