  1. All you need is the skimmer. the bio part of those systems are just nitrate factories You still interested in my setup?
  2. yep, dont worry about the worms themselves though, completely harmless. I remember first time i ever saw them, i freaked.
  3. On my FX5 i used a 90 Degree piece of PVC tube. Didnt even need cutting, just bought a few different types (cheap as) and found what fitted.
  4. Planaria A sign of overfeeding generally.
  5. Jees. thats a lot of money... Imagine finding it on the floor one morning
  6. Minimum tank for an oscar is 55g - or according to most of the guys on the cichlid forum. 4x2x2 is decent for 2 oscars
  7. 150l isnt really big enough for most cichlids that are considered 'wet pets' ie. Oscars, GTs, Jags etc.. A butterfly fish, a nandus nandus and a ctenopoma, with some senegal bichirs would be a pretty cool tank to watch with regards to live food - all those fish however arent cheap.

  13. True, but not as economical on price as cichlid gold.
  14. LOL Get some Hikari cichlid gold. Good floating food, cheap too. make him grow real fast 8) African cichlids will suffice also.
  15. Couldntve phrased it better myself
  16. Good choice on tank Im cycling my 180 with 12 large columbian tetras, 6 tiger barbs, a redtail shark, bristlenose, and a pair of cichlids   and im only on week 2
  17. Those tanks dont have lids. those flaps dont always prevent them jumping out... and if the flaps ever get left open... then they can jump straight out. Its called gene pool cleansing. all the neons that are stupid enough to jump, well... SO in theory only smart ones are left.
  18. Can you post it up pleeeease Dont want to register for yet another forum, much too many already  Thanks
  19. With all this Animates bashing, a separate area of the forum should be made...
  20. Cichlasoma Salvini or; Nandopis Salvini. Just thought id share some pics and info on these very underrated cichlids... My fave cichlid, and ive kept quite a few of them. Central american, native to Mexico. Pound for pound one of the most aggressive fish in the hobby - when breeding, think convicts but with even more kick-ass. Females grow to about 5'' max, and males 8'' max. Females are much more colourful, even when not breeding - taking on a nice yellow base colour, sprinkles of blue, and a red belly. Males tend to be really pale yellow, with blue sprinkles. Sexing - Other than the colour differences, males are have a longer body shape, longer trailing tips to the dorsal and anal fins. Females have a black blotch in the middle of the dorsal, and a black splodge on the gill cover. Females are an attractive proposition for a mixed cichlid aquarium - they can be mixed ok with firemouths and convicts and other cichlids of similar size and temperment - though like any cichlid tank you need territories and lots of line-of-sight breakers - these guys dont mess around when they get angry. Males are more aggressive, and id recommend their company being the likes of GTs and JDs - and other cichlids along those lines. Saying that, females too can be kept with much larger cichlids in my opinion - an adult 5'' female sal vs a adult 12'' oscar - id probably put my money on the sal... they really do hold there own. If keeping a pair, would recommend keeping them as the only cichlids. I have mine with 14 largish columbian tetras, and their numbers are slowly disappearing. If looking to keep a single sal, would recommend a female with a firemouth and a convict in a 4' tank when adults. would work quite well. Breeding, cant comment on my own experiences here as im currently attempting this. Shouldnt be too difficult, same as convicts... except there is a very very high chance of the male killing the female in the process. My girl is getting a hard time at the moment. But the stunning colours intensify even more when breeding, and ive read that in a 'community' setup, a breeding pair will take upto 4' of tank space as their own - and they will defend it. very aggressively. Anyway heres some pics. No flash was used, and no enhancing of pics. Female is obvious by the colours, and not even breeding colours yet! absolutely stunning eh.
  21. No idea about reactors, but glass diffusers are pretty good. Ive imported a load, may be worth sending A-town a pm seeing if he has any left.
  22. Incorrect. I work at Animates because probably the most reputatable fish shop in the country couldnt pay me remotely close to what I was requesting. But that is a separate argument.
  23. Nice I got a measly $54... so thats some neons and flourish excel for me then
  24. I buy all my fish from Animates. Never had a problem.
