  1. Get some more sponges, throw them in one of your main tanks or sumps for a wee while. they should colonize really quick and should be good to go whenever you need them. When not in use, keep them in your main system again.
  2. Ive tested lots. simultaneously too. I found the $60 marina aquaminder to be a few degrees out from all the others, which was disappointing. I like digitals with probes that run into the tank, and they are easiest to read at a glance IMO.
  3. I know a guy with 56 or something. In one tank. Its epic. My 20 went to a good home
  4. Yes but there are plenty of people after clowns of a decent size, so sell some off as they get bigger, and youll probably make your money back.
  5. get 20. I bought 20 Clowns at the last Animates Buy One Get One Free weekend. Was a lot cheaper than normal. I had 20 Clowns, with a school of Firemouths, and a gizzilion Tiger barbs in a 430L running an FX5 and the bioload was small - compared to when I had monsters in the same system anyway.
  6. Yep i just put up a thread with the main deals

    New 3ft Marine

Now Now guys, advice is appreciated on all sides, and im not one to be sold on product - Plus i have access to wholesale prices for some stuff, so will use the brands that I can get cheaper where i can; I will order some Seachem Phos-gard next week, so thatll go in the filter in about a fortnight. Went and upgraded the skimmer today. The guys at HFF MtRoskill had a Dymax XP-30 in stock, rated to 200L, bought it on the spot Good time for it to break in eh. Anyone know what the little polyp thing is in the bottom pic?

    New 3ft Marine

Pics of filled tank. Hopefully it looks better tomorrow when its cleared, and ill probably siphon the debris left on the bottom, and make any adjustments that are necessary. Then its back to the sitting and waiting game called cycling.

    New 3ft Marine

Here we go. Got everything finished, put into position - will be hard keeping attention on the TV  Had to use my entire supply of ASW to fill. Just using two heaters to bring upto temp. Rockwork is ok, best I can do without using putty.

    New 3ft Marine

Thanks guys. Yes everything is being transferred to the new tank. The 30cm height and depth of the 3ft is a pain in the A, and is restrictive. Cube should be much better. Getting wood to mount my lighting after work today, then hopefully can start arranging rockwork and filling tomorrow

Upgraded. Again. Scored a nice 48cm cube for $40. All sides tinted glass except front. Looks pretty good. Just waiting for the paint to dry on the stand, then hopefully I can get filling tomorrow. Then need to make brackets to hang my T5 unit on as its looks stoopid sat on top of the tank (its longer)

    Giant fighters!

Ive got a blue one, not sure if you saw it when you were in Animates today?
  15. Hey Reef im using DI water, tested for phosphates, showed 0. Does the algae mean I have phosphates and that the test kit isnt good enough? cheers
  16. Looking good! and soon all your nice rock will look like this! mines getting worse everyday.(pics were yesterday, today everything is rusty brown) its supposed to subside though, just part of the rock cycling.
  17. Is your protein skimmer switched on? if it isnt id crank it, you might be filling a cup every day or two though, but those nutrients have to go somewhere and it beats water changes at this stage...
  18. Maybe thats why im loving this whole saltwater thing. I love gadgets!
  19. Pretty sure its half price on test kits - my Saltwater master test kit cost me about $26 RETAIL.
  20. I have two of those resun powerheads Whatdya think of them?
  21. Test kits are half price at Animates this month.. Pretty good time to get a master kit.
  22. Nah thats about the right sized tank for a Giant Gourami of that size... But once it wants to grow more.... maybe he should reduce the feeding...
  23. Im currently looking at ways to hold the heat in my Viv a bit better. At the moment using a 150w heat emitter running on a repta thermostat - works well, but would like to possibly go as low as a 50w heat emitter in the future. Its a 4ft glass viv, open top, sliding front doors. I got a pane of glass to cover 95% of the top, helped tremendously (left a gap at cool end for ventilation) Viv is only 45cm high, and my lamps hang inside - so im saving some power via the distance away from basking area. My latest thoughts are the ground - would running a heat mat help with the ambient temp at all? if it does then that will help at day, and hopefully means i can turn my heat emitter off at night - gets a bit cold at the mo so i leave it on (>13C) and second one, would poly under the tank help retail heat? I have no intention of putting poly on any of the other sides though it would help. just the bottom - and then is it safe to run a heat matt between the bottom of the tank and a piece of poly? thanks :bounce:
