  1. Huh? Did I miss something? Whats wrong with an AquaOne Tank?
  2. So this is a canister filter? In my short lived experience... The water that is returning from the canister, is it dispersed thru a spray bar? If yes - check that the bar is more than an inch below the surface with the "holes" pointing at a 45 degree angle to the surface... If they are facing down they will not be creating surface movement. If no spray bar, perhaps you may need to get one? Mine came with bot a spray bar and a duck bill, I am assuming yours did too?
  3. Thanks firefish - I think I will keep my eyes peeled for a coconut this weekend - I think I have seen them in the bird section at the LPS - if they not too expensive then this might save me the trouble of scraping out the flesh.
  4. Oh! AND... I forgot to say these are fantastic pics!!
  5. I am intrigued with the coconut shell... is it just a normal coconut shell? Or was it sold to you as an aquarium accessory? Where can one get one of these?
  6. I would be interested in the answer to this question also - anyone know??
  7. Top effort Zev - Tanks is looking great! Love the cat's luxury suite!
  8. I got 2 of these from Sharn and that are gorgeous! Thanks Sharn! :bounce:
  9. I am sure the size of the tank had something to do with it!
  10. I had a fighter in with my Aphyosemion Bitaeniatum and my fighter got munched - It was a small AR380 tank tho. My figher was promptly moved to my AR126 where he is recovering quite nicely. I stupidly thought that cos the Bitaeniatum were so small they would be ok... I underestimated the power of the tiny blokes. In a bigger tank things may have been different.
  11. I agree - they are beautiful! I want some too!
  12. I have just been thru this exercise... I didn't rinse the AquaBasics stuff, just put it straight in - I then put 2-3cm gravel on top (black silica sand) then I covered the bottom with a couple of sheets of newspaper and poured the water in. This worked well - didn't upset any of the substrate. Tanks was cloudy for 8 days total - I did a ~40% water change after 5 days (used the newspaper to pour new water in again) All looking sweet now! I am finding the pH is very high still so have added some driftwood yesterday hoping to get it down so I can add some fish.
  13. Right - I am going to give that a go - cut all but 3 surface leaves and see what happens - Thanks guys
  14. What does one have to do to discourage a tiger lotus from growing leaves to the top of the aquarium?
  15. Wow! Really? I was so gutted when mine grew these scruffy looking leaves and roots at the end of the main leaves. I thought it made the plant look manky! Funny... how long will it take for the "baby" to leave home?
  16. That pic is the damage - haven't taken an after pic yet - perhaps I'll do that 2moro... lights are off for the night now.
  17. I too have suffered the shock of finding my beautiful man in ruins! http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx35 ... CN1420.jpg Not quite as bad as that SamH but I was sure mine wasn't going to survive. I added salt initially (once) then did water changes daily for about 10 days - he took about 3 days to come right and hasn't looked back since. The finage has started growing back but it is very slow and looks almost transpearant. (I have no idea how to spell that word!) Hope he comes right for you also SamH
  18. And to take it a little bit further... IME golden bristlenose eats more algae than the norm brown ones
  19. Back to the dust particles - I had a similar prob and tried the stuff that binds the particles together - It worked a little but I found that JBL SymecMirco filter media "polished" my water the best! It is material like stuff that you cut to fit whatever size filter you have ... works great!
  20. OMG! is that what the stars are all about!!
  21. No worries dude... I don't have a heater to help you out sorry I was just curious about the baking! Although that pineapple carrot cake sounds divine! :bounce:
