  1. I think he may be referring to Droncit injectable maybe?
  2. Sorry - This might be blindingly obvious but ... Do you put this into the tank frozen or do you defrost first?
  3. What food is best for young discus? Just wanna get people thoughts on this...
  4. OR... Skip the schooling fish - just have a fighter and maybe a Bristlenose then fill the blank spaces with a variety of plants. Later on, after you have trolled the LFS many times over - there may be a small school of fish that you fall in love with. With me it was celestial pearl danios
  5. I agree with BikBok - so much easier just to get the other strainer! They are inexpensive and IMO look nicer. I put the shorted one on mine from the start and my Khuli's haven't been up to the filter ever... Mind you, my partner made them a cute little coconut shell house that they hardly ever venture out of it. Every morning when the light come on there are 3 cute little heads peeking out the little door. I drop their shrimp pellets in they grab them and take them into the depths of their house - funny little guys!
  6. I have all my baby GBA's in a tank together with a bunch of adult male guppies and even a small school of Oto's - no one touches the babies - I will often find them in the filter tho. If I want a roll call I throw in a couple of pieces of cucumber - now thats entertainment! The whole piece crawls with GBA's. The adults push in but so the little ones piggyback on the bigger one sucking on them... Fun to watch. Poor guppies don't get a look in!
  7. Just to clarify I am seeking advice on Vallisneria tortifolia (Twisted Vallis) which I purchased from the LFS I take that getting this stuff from the local waterways is a NO NO...
  8. DOH! ooops! Not the done thing aye?
  9. Sorrry - the thread "Rotala rotundifolia" is what I was referring to - I did have some R. Macandra at one stage but I wasn't able to get it to grow nicely so chucked it out. If I can find some again I would like to give it another try.
  10. Thanks for the advice - I went and got a whole lotta new plants today, done a big change around on the other tanks. I have been looking at other threads with very cool planted tanks... P44 your tank is AMAZING! I couldn't find any of the pinkish plant that you have but will keep an eye out for it, I love it! Think I might shout myself to a new light bulb for the tank - it must be due for one I have had this tank for about a year now.
  11. Lighting is pretty standard - I have this growing in a AR380 which has a trop/sunlight mix bulb - other plants ie cabomba, ambulia, indian fern, dwarf sag, riccia, hygrophillia poly, xmas moss have all grown well in it before.
  12. Vallisneria - how do I get it to thrive? I have had it in my tank for about 2 weeks and it seems to be going yellow then melting away ... i read that it doesn't like Flourish excel - is there something else I can be offering it? I do have liquid ferts and JBL Balls - does anyone have some successful experiences with this that can offer me some good advice? Thanks in advance

:bounce: I also am very interested - plse pm me too!
  14. scuse my ingnorance... plse can someone clarify what EBJD stands for?
  15. As with anything - it is only worth what someone will actually pay... and it only takes one person to make it worth that, regardless of what it is priced at anywhere else. Said with all due respect
  16. :bounce: Awesum! That tank is looking great! That riccia really did do the trick.
  17. Thank you Jen - I have put it in the bleach now... 2 cups of sugar with how much yeast?
  18. hmmmm... not looking so good then? I thought that they looked like less hassle than my DIY with nano diffuser. I have noticed a significant improvement in my plant growth with the DIY but I am replacing the sugar/yeast mixture every 10 days or so. My glosso is carpeting slowly, the dwarf sag is going crazy and the red tiger lotus has really taken off. BUT I wrecked my diffuser (the gook from the bottle went up the tubing and is stuck in the diffuser. Anyone got any ideas how I can make the mixture last longer or am I expecting too much?
  19. I have been looking at the Sera Products - namely the CO2 Starter pak. This has a little plastic chamber which is submersed in your tank, that you drop a tablet into every 2nd - 3rd day. Also in this pak there are some tablets to push under the gravel on alternate weeks (I think) These are fert tabs. Has anyone had experience with this products and is it effective. Thanks
  20. If you want to let the light to the bottom - here is what I have done... Same rock a few weeks later... The mesh is a shower loofa stretched over a stone (and riccia) then held in place with a cable tie.
  21. I have some riccia going spare if ya want it
  22. The similarities are - New Tank, Black Silica Sand, Driftwod/Rocks, DIY CO2, Heated. Plants that I have planted are - Glosso, Dwarf Sag, Riccia (under mesh on a rock) and I added ambulia when I read about adding a fast growing plant. I have also recently added 2 small Tiger Lotus (1 red 1 green) Fish - Oto's, some GBA babies and x2 Cockatoo Cichlids Whats different? Tanks is 100l I have a very thin layer of AquaBasics under the substrate instead of JBL Balls I have been monitoring the Iron content and added Flourish Iron when this is low or non existant. The BIG difference is my lighting is 13w T5 10000k - Lights are on for 11 hours each day Occasionally I see a film appear on my glass - this I just wipe with the magnet cleaner & I do 20% water changes every 10 days or so. I do regular water tests for the sake of the fish. Now - to all you experts out there... Do you think its the size of the tank or the lighting that is making the difference? I would like to now try glosso in my 21l tank also and if I can would like to avoid the algae. I might even do it with the low water line like in the youtube clip mentioned above.
  23. GUTTED! I was following your progress as I too was making my first attempt at growing glosso. I learnt so much from everyones input! My glosso is carpeting but is still quite sparse hence why I wanted to know how yours was doing. Our projects are similar but different (that don't make sense!) I haven't had the dreaded algae breakout, this has been thru luck more than calculated planning on my behalf. I would love to be the hero here and give you the magic combination but I don't have it. What I would like to say is, don't give up. Thank you for sharing your experience - I'm sure it has made mine more successful.
