  1. Please can we have some updated pics - I wanna see how the glosso is doing  Thanks in advance
  2. :bounce: Yaye a bigger tank... man have you been patient! While you still have the small tank running you could thro the noodles from the bigger one into a net bag (or clean stocking) and put in small tank to start the seeding - If you leave them in there a week or so bacteria will start to build up on the noodles (6 weeks would be better but I don't think you have THAT much patience!! Also, if you can find it, TLC Smart Start will work really well in the bigger bodies of water, if not JBL FilterStart. So haw many tanks are you up to now? Is that 3?
  3. I love the intense blackness of AquaOne Black Silica Sand - I does have a sheen tho.
  4. Looks like I will have to play the waiting game!
  5. Sounds interesting but unfortunately yes there are fish in there. I needed a tank for all my baby GBA's
  6. Yeah same shop different weeks - I never thought of that Nick - I think you might be right. Do I leave it in there and be patient? Or rip it out and get another? This is a new tank not yet cycled, should I have a rotting plant in there?
  7. hmmmm... feeling that perhaps I should have picked an easier plant... Help! One side of my tanks has the glosso growing quite well with nice lime green little plants - the other side all the plants are dying. I do have the DIY Co2 & Heater on the side that is doing well could this have something to do with it? The side that looks like it is dying was a different pot of the plant and I have noticed there are a few nice green plants amoungst it which I think may have come from the pot used on the other side - could I have got a faulty plant perhaps?
  8. I have great success with these... http://www4.snapfish.co.nz/slideshow/Al ... =SPIClink/ http://www4.snapfish.co.nz/slideshow/Al ... =SPIClink/

    King Killi

What a beauty Barrie - such a shame!
  10. 3) Fishies. We are going for guppies. Can I keep some kind of small rams in there with them? Maybe some corys? Any other small fish you can recommend (not neons thanks!). I would love some kind of loaches to nail the snails (which are currently Oscar tucker), but am fearful they would munch the guppies' tails? IME - Skunk loaches clean up the snails pretty quickly but then start on Guppy tails! So stay away from these guys.
  11. Hey SamH - I hear ya with the impatience thing! I too suffer from that!
  12. Time I have - Patience, well that is something I am learning - I have done one side in clumps but I think I might have made the clumps too big the other side has a one big clump on the top of the hill cos my arm was getting tired - will got back to it after I have had a coffee. Thanks for posting Alanmin, it is a fiddly job, kinda wished I had chosen something easier now, sure do hope I am successful!
  13. I have 2 male GBA's but only 1 female - The one male seems to be doing all the work so far... He has just raised his 3rd lot of kiddies. I have them all in a large tank but when the eggs hatch the clown loaches start to pull poor daddy-bristles out of his log to get to the young so I have been removing him to another tank where he can raise his young in peace. This time I kept him in the other tank a bit longer hoping the female might breed with the other one (who is the same age but a little smaller) The female just doesn't seem interested enough in him - Today I gave up and put the big guy back into the tank with his log and almost immediately the games began! Do I need to get the smaller guy a female of his own?
  14. Can anyone tell me - do you plant the glosso as a bunch how it came or do you break it up?
  15. What will eat the brown algae?
  16. Smarty Pants! I am waiting on some riccia and more glosso b4 I start planting. I am being patient for a change (this has not happened before - I usually very impatient!)
  17. Thanks P44 - will fish cope with that? Not that there are fish in there yet but when there is? No I didn't use Baking soda
  18. This is my first attempt at DIY Co2 - Looks to me like all the bubbles are racing to the surface? Is it sposed to look like this? http://www4.snapfish.co.nz/slideshow/Al ... =SPIClink/ http://www4.snapfish.co.nz/slideshow/Al ... =SPIClink/ I have used 1 cup of brown sugar, (didn't have any white stuff) and 1 teaspoon of yeast, 750mls luke warm water in a 1.5lt bottle . As you can see I haven't planted the glosso yet, just getting everything sorted and deciding where everything is going. Any hints welcome
  19. I too am looking into planting Glosso and have been surfing the net for recommendations. Everything I read indicates that Co2 and lighting are important factors in achieving a carpet like appearance. Phoenix44 clarified the lighting issue for me - the following is his explanation... WPG - watts per gallon. Watts is not a measure of light output, but is the unit of electrical consumption. basically with the technology we have now, a 12W energy saver can produce light that is equivalent to 60W of the old fashioned light bulbs. see where I am coming from now? so while - per watt the energy saver, produces less light per gallon under the WPG rule, in reality the 60W and the 12W produce the same amount of light. then there are metal halides which are inefficent, because a lot of the energy they consume is released as heat. With tubes, the T8's are now being replaced with the newer T5 technology, that produces more light for the same wattage. then there are T5 High output lights that give out even more light for the same number of watts. So the Watts per gallon / litre rule is fundamentally incorrect, as the underlying scale of measurement is inaccurate and not constant; and thus wrong. HTH
  20. I agree - those pics are REALLY good! Superb looking Tiger
  21. Caryl you are a legend! Check out that answer guys! I am impressed - and now understand the "Golden Triangle" Thank you!
  22. Who can explain to me the golden triangle rule of aquascaping? Is it as it sounds?
