well theyre all clear at the moment, so heres hopeing

seems the best thing to catch livebearer fry is a canister filter, whenever my mother cleans out her filter theres allways baby platties in there

well yesterday i turned down the heater to about 25, a 3 deg drop and now i see eggs on the bottom! YAY! so now i guess i gotta get my brine shrimp hatchery working and make some food for these little critters

so is that conditioning at 24 and have the breeding tank at about 22?

yea that was their 3rd try, the first time i didnt have the softner and the mesh down, the second time the mesh was in but i didnt have it set up correctly and i found them under the mesh, and i thought third time was a charm, oh well, might look into an easier tetra like black widow to get into first

no, no luck yet. i went to the LFS to get a GH test kit but they had none, so i got this thing called a 'water softner pillow'. i got a 20l container and filled it with tap water and had a large pump in it with only a bag of peat and this pillow in there. a week later after feeding the glowlights up on daphnia brine shrimp and bloodworms i put two into a tank that has a mesh covering the bottom, a ball of java moss and a spawning mop made from black wool, temp at 28 deg. their conditioning was seperate and at 26 deg. netted them one at a time getting the fattest female and brightest male and just put them into the tank. they got put in last night and when i checked thismorning at 9 and 11 there wasnt any eggs. dont know what else to try next, was looking forward to a nice big school of tetras

or you could just not full the tank up to the overflow level if you want to do this

Why do you have a tap in the inlet to the sump? to me it achives nothing and if not set correctly cause your sump to empty into your tank causing an overflow and your pump to burn out, unless its there for some sort of maintanence issue? And could you feed the input to the sump into the first filter media cavity, save space so you have more space for overflow into the pump cavity

is he the only fish in the tank? it would be best to only have the filter on all the time or not at all, aslong as the waterchanges are done (about 30-50% twice a week) he will be fine, buy turning the filter on only a little bit a day the only thing that you might achieve is removing suspended matter from the water.

he will still eat after his nest gets busted.

About the nest thing he shouldnt care too much, just try build a new one next chance he got, thats what mine does.

havnt heard of these pools before but have heard of people keeping salt water ponds, just useing salt instead of chlorine was my understanding of the system

is it safe then to put your arm in an aro tank and not get attacked buy the thing, would hurt having a fish the size of your arm latch onto your hand...

maybe the daphnia is hideing in the water supply? thats really weird how they just appeared

i got mine from trademe but if you put up an add in the trade and exchange here im shure someone near you could give/sell you a starting culture.

ive currently got some plattys in a tank full of daphnia and green water, platys are growing really quick and have constant live food, i havnt had to worry about them, just a quick head count and make shure that the daphnia is still in there, mind you though theres only 3 fry in there....

im shure that the fastest bird in the world is a bird called the swift

but wouldnt poly get all waterlogged and gross? espically if you cover it in substrate?

licencing shouldnt take long, but keep on it if it takes more than 2 months, took me 6 months becouse the testing guy didnt submit my results to the police, so keep hold of the card they give you saying you passed the safety test
