  1. How about this. - I set up a site (subdomain of fnzas.org.nz) with a registration form. This would be a 'initial registration of interest'. - in a couple weeks time (I need to go skiing first) we set up the committee to make a few decisions (join fnzas, fees etc) and assign a few tasks. - Once the club is real the 'initial registration of interest' will be converted to full membership with all its benefits (whatever they will be). and then .. I need to get me a few new guppies .. and show you how it's done Cees
  2. Name doesn't matter here are some links to organizations that could give us some ideas on how to run things. http://livebearers.org/ http://www.poecilia.org/ http://www.poecilia.nl/ http://home.clara.net/xenotoca/
  3. Welcome ChrisP, For those of you who might not know about it. The glass-thickness calculator can be found here. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/glassthickness.0.html Guys, please don't think. Get the facts, use the calculator !!! ChrisP : I'm sure Warren will comment on this. What are the numbers when you calculate it for 600mm rather then the 750mm. If you only fill to 600mm than that's what you should be using perhaps.
  4. When I say register I mean a way for people to become a memebr of the club. That could simply be an online registration system a bit more advanced than a simple mail-form. I believe we are talking about a 'new club'. If that club becomes an FNZAS affiliate then its members will be part of the FNZAS and the club will need to pay the 'very small' FNZAS fee. For that it would need a bank accoutn I guess. Of course, if you are already a member of a local club than that fnzas fee is not required. We could organize ourselves a bit like the NZKA .The NZKA calls (called) itself the first and only snail-mail fish club in NZ ( or something like that) The livebearer club could be the first and only fully online fish club in NZ.
  5. Give it a day or so more to see what response is and then we need to nominate people for a founding committee or something like that, I guess. All they would need to organize first is some place to register, a bank account to manage funds (if any) and join the fnzas. Cees
  6. Good input everyone. I like the idea of a livebearer rather then just guppy society. Even have a name for it already Poecilia New Zealand. I can setup the website as poecilia.fnzas.org.nz (or whatever) I can do online registration, auto-newsletter etc. We can keep this forum as main means of meeting/discussing. Where to now. Let this simmer just a little. See if we get more input. At some stage we need to get some sort of organization going with proper rules etc. Get a committee elected. Join the fnzas. Set a membership fee, possibly just the fnzas fee for now. All I need is some fish ... let me think Pisces isn't visble yet, Pisces Austrinus is .. oops wrong hobby. Cees
  7. Alan : congratulations, well done Peter : Good to hear you still into guppies. How's the business. Guppy Society : I'm in. Need a new club anyway. UHAS appears to be in recess. So, what do we need to get started? 1. All (most) communications, meetings, newsletters, member-registration etc online ? 2. charter/constitution etc . FNZAS can you help set us up? 3. a committee - in other words, who is doing what? What is a NZ guppy society supposed to do/be? Some of my thoughts: - join FNZAS so that members receive Aquarium World and other FNZAS benefits - minimum fees, cost recovery only. (no sausage sizzles please) - set up a breeding register - keep track of what is around - setup standards for shape and color so that we can improve overall - teach about breeding and standards - share resources - eventually import new stock All of the above set in todays hectic/busy environment. Ideally, all activities are member drive . What I mean is 'it' happens not by committee, not by meeting/agenda but by member input/participation. A bit like this forum but more.... I can participate when I want to, not when I have to (phew, getting philosopical here) Anyway, lets get the discussion going and then act on it.
  8. http://www.doc.govt.nz/Conservation/001 ... -Frogs.asp quote " New Zealand's native frogs have several distinctive features, which make them very different from frogs elsewhere in the world: They have no external eardrum. They have round (not slit) eyes. They don't croak regularly like most frogs. They don't have a tadpole stage. The embryo develops inside an egg, and then hatches as an almost fully-formed frog. The young of most species are cared for by their parents - for example, the male Archey's frog may carry his young offspring around on his back. " Amazing, learn something new/interesting everyday.
  9. forms are here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/497.0.html

  13. I'm really happy and impressed with my canon eos 300d. This is just an example of how nice the colors come through. Nothing special, fully automatic, point, shoot. This is the full frame, only processing was an unsharp mask in 'the Gimp' and reduce image size
  14. as said, I'm restocking my fishroom and trying out my new camera. My daughter gave me 3 of these for my birthday . Not quite in focus yet.
  15. Yes, already have the 750mm lens for it, am waiting for the T-ring to connect it.
  16. canon eos 300d slr http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/
  17. Finally done it. Bought a Digital Camera. First results from my fishroom. Sorry, can't show you many fish yet. Due to my own stupidity I lost pretty much everything. I'm stocking up again slowly. Going broad-spectrum rather than single species this time.
  18. I have received a number of requests to setup club websites. One of them a long time ago, I know. I have not activated any new sites yet. I hope you can just wait a little longer. I will do it but need to finish a few other things first and reorganize the fnzas main site a little. It will happen. Cees
  19. Jut email the photos to me and I'll put them on the site. Another great FNZAS event. Now why did I miss that one again? Cees
  20. I use shotgun wads in my trickle filter. cheap alternative to bio-balls. your local gun-shop should have them. Try getting the clear plastic variety
  21. Depends on what you are chatting about ... Try to stick to only one topic (aquarium related) in a single post, in replies stay on topic, start a new thread for a new topic. Finding the right forum shouldn't be too hard then. For just generally chatting I'd suggest you use the chatroom
  22. Warren, Sorry,I updated the info on page http://www.fnzas.org.nz/aquarium-world.0.html this morning but forgot to report it here. Price was listed as $13.60 Cees
